Didn't notice Keayes too much in the first but he has come to life in the second. Great running goal from 40 on the left. Very good size around 183 and already 78 kg. I hope Eddie doesn't whinge too much about this kid in his draft year next year.

Uber has gone quiet but Hamm really in the thick of it up forward. 197 cm and only 86 kgs but he's killing his man on the lead. His stats won't show it at the end of the game but he has hit a few packs and contests hard. Looks ok at ground level, was fumbly in the first quarter as was everyone else though.

Heeney was ok, not sure he's a top 3 player though.

Is anyone else here slightly underwhelmed by this years crop? For 6months all I've heard is that it's a great draft for KPP. I'm not seeing it personally. Others with a better eye than I will have a better gauge.

I was impressed by Hammelman yesterday with his ability to get separation on his opponent though. Obviously where we finish will dictate what we do with our first pick but I'm none the clearer. Last few years I was happy to have number of players land at our pick. This year I have no clue. Hopefully that play Wright up forward so we can see what he brings to this position but if he is more ruck than forward than I would rather not go there.

Maybe that's industry speak for "Not many good mids".

I think there is a lot of talented kids but the hard part is there seems to be few real Blue chip options. I think Wright is a pretty safe bet and Brayshaw, Weller, Waterman, Blakely and probably Durdin fall into this category as well for me. You could even argue some of these are a little speculative and would be more picked on potential than talent.

Just because it is more even doesnt mean the quality is any less. I think because there are more options this yeah, it has made the top a bit more even, and prevented those clesr few from standing up. Because there hasnt been the standouts, the hype has been kept to a minimum and less excitement.

Once the draft order is set and it starts leaking out about who each club might take the draft will take shape more and excitement will build for the targets likely to be at our picks.

The academy draft seems as good as last year, im no expert and havent seen them play though. Will be good to potentially ha e freeman and hammelmann on our list bext year. 2 big kpf prospects.

The thing with key forwards is that they only really shine when on the end of good delivery. The championships have never been a great showcase for skill. When the skills level tends to drop they're going to look a little less flash. You almost gave to project forward to see what they'd be like on the end of a decent midfield.

Its where u have to look at the smaller things, positioning, work rate, competitiveness. Forwards that can stay involved in the game when thier midfield is getting dominated should stand out.

I liked the look of Goddard from Vic Country, can play back and forward. Couple of good contested grabs. Wouldn't be upset if we ended up with him.

Anderson from WA looked good too as a mid sized forward/mid.

After watching Hammelmann yesterday I'm not really sure what we should do with our first pick. I really rate Hammelmann and think he'll be a very good player once he fills out. He's got very skinny arms but he's got pretty solid legs. If we take Hammelmann and Uebergang in the draft I'm leaning to picking up Weller. I'm really over developing these young kids from interstate only for them to want to go home after a few years. The only exception I'd make is if we can get McCartin. Taylor, Gardiner and McCartin are really good mates so the go home factor would be less with McCartin compared to a Wright.

There's some quality Queensland kids this year and next so we should make the most of it and set ourselves up for the next few years with local talent. Keays just looks like a very classy player and stood out yesterday. I have no idea where he would go in the draft next year but to me with another 12 months development he looks like a top 5 to 10 pick.

Particularly impressed with McCartin's hands, that mark below his knees was pretty impressive.

As much as I like Hammelmann I don't think we are I a position to use our first pick based on needs. With so many holes and very little depth all over the ground we really do need to go best available. I suppose if they are tossing up between 2 players they may potentially go for a mid over a KPF knowing Hammelmann could be already sewn up. In saying that when you've got a pick in the top 3-6 I think our recruiters would have a definitive order of preference of how they rate the players at this stage of the draft

you have to remember Hammelman is playing division 2. I doubt he is coming up against key defenders who are likely to be drafted so his efforts need to be considered in some context.

I saw a bit of hte game on fox yesterday and the commentators did seem impressed with his efforts and talked up his size as 'what AFL clubs are looking for' THink he had 4-5 shots on goal but only kicked 1.

eg. last year Freeman kicked 4 goals against South Australia U-18's if I recall correctly and this year he is 'developing his game' in the NEAFL. lets not get too excited.

Keays did look good and kicked a couple of goals.

Also heard the commentators post match mention that Tyler Roos played well for NSW as they listed 3-4 best players.

I have come to the conclusion that Wearden is contracted until the end of the 2015 season.

He was recruited at the 2011 National Draft and re-signed at the end of 2013,presumably for 2 more years...UIGM.

I don't recall any talk on our board about Freeman last year which shows how differently player can be viewed. it was all about Tickner and Conway and there was very little interest in them by the time of the draft. Worst case scenario is that none of these guys are taken in the draft (which wouldn't surprise me) but end up at some of NEAFL clubs. It's still good for footy in Brisbane.

Both of these boys played well in their previous games last week as well.

If Leppa decides to swap out some players for picks, we may find we can get all the academy kids we want/need and still use what will be our 2-4 pick on one of the big 3 KPF that are all the focus this year.

And I have to say it again, Keays looks like he could be huge for us if we get him.

Was just wondering which bidding system will come first say we nominated Tyler Roos and Matthew Hammelmann and both got bid third round which player would get preference

Doesn't matter as the latter would just go to the next pick. I think father son is first. So if we were hypothetically forced to use our 3rd round for Roos, then a clubs like Hawthorn (after us in the draft) bid their 2nd rounder for Hammelman we would then be able to draft him with our 4th round selection (next available).

Nope you're right. Most years there's always that one key forward that just stands out - Patton, Boyd, Lynch, Butcher etc from previous drafts but this year there are at least five or so talls that could go in the top ten that haven't shown anything "elite" so far, they're all contributing to the team but not really standing out.

Liked what I saw of Roos but thought the standout was Tom Lamb V.C #25.

He was swapped from defence to forward but had one killer quarter down back - will be a monster mid and I'm guessing a possible top 5 - would be happy with either would love BOTH!

Being an under-ager, that would of course be in next year's draft, not this year's.
