I would take Wright over Patton, Patton's already done a knee and you can just see him doing it again as his such a big unit and the pressure on his knee would be immense, you can guarantee if we recruited him he'd do his knee for sure .
Hasn't he done both knees? Well one knee and a ACL

I'm in the other camp and think that we should take best available at picks 1 or 2. My reasoning is that GWS have held the chips when dealing with Melbourne so much so I think they screwed them over in some part. GWS will not give up Patton. Patton, Boyd and Cameron are their future forward line. Jaksch and Tomlinson would be KPF that they would be willing to trade with IMO. Are they that valuable for pick 1/2? I don think so even if we were to trade down to GWS's first pick. They have proven to be strong at the trade table.

Depending on our second pick and where it falls and if we have to use it for one of our academy players then this is the pick to be used for trade material and used for a Jaksch type.

I don't want us to panic even though it looks highly likely that we are going to be down for another season or two.

Here is where our list is at (well as it was in pre season).

Just on the trading the academy pick. Pretty sure that academy and father son bidding is done pre trade week in order to prevent a team getting these players with really late picks by trading their early picks away for players. So if we end up having to use a 2nd round pick on Dawson and elect to do so that pick is locked out of trade negotiations

Very aware but cheers. If we do have to use it then they should be worth it which would be good.

I think we should pick best available mid. We need a mid group of 8-10, with mids being able to fill most spots in the team these days apart from key tall positions. We still lack line breaking mids

We take the best available - if we could get a young midfielder like Josh Kelly, that is better than a speculative key position pick. I also agree on getting a key forward like Tomlinson. We are better off raiding GWS and Gold Coast stocks. We should have a heap of cash available in our salary cap. It would be also useful to draft in the best mature age key position player outside the AFL, whoever that is. We need an automatic target asap.

We should tank and get pick 1 for Wright. Trade Luey out for anything we can get and get another KPF (Durdin possibly?)

We would never tank and nor will we have to in order to finish last this season.

Having looked at Leuey's number earlier and combined with his inability to stay on the park for any sustained period, I'm beginning to think we missed an opportunity to move him on last year whilst he had a little bit of currency. Perhaps Longer would have been the better option to retain had he believed the no.1 spot was his.

We look headed for a pick in the bottom 3. Lets just hope Frawley stays with the Demons and there is no Priority picks.

Melbourne would have to start winning or else Frawley is as good as gone.

It's not good to say out loud but i'm quite happy to put the que in the rack for the rest of the year and pick up the number 1 pick. Stuff it we ain't making finals or even getting close so why bother, really bottom out for once and get a gun.

Ye agreed. Would obviously like to win every game but with our injury list I can't see us winning many. It's also important for us to draft a great shut down small/medium defender. Our stocks were fine but after the go home 5 we're extremely thin on that position.

I know creating a winning culture is a good thing and loss after loss is not good for setting up that culture or for getting players to re-sign but if we suck up the pain this year it just might come good next year. The paddle pop lion will be assigned to the history books are the real jumper will be back, and then the winning can begin.

Exactly. You only need to look at recent history to see what clubs have done with a good year of trading and drafting. Port and West Coast were both in the bottom four and playing finals the next year. Hopefully we can replicate what they did.

Useless a forward is an exceptional talent we should be drafting elite mids with our first pick. Picking forwards, rucks with our first pick is what has got us into our list troubles atm

Them leaving was what got our list into trouble. ;)

Berger left? Henderson couldnt be traded out quick enough. Spllandermann (delist), wood (trade), Longer (poor selection considering ruck depth at the time)

Hendo would have stayed if it wasn't for Fev. Hendo and Clark would have been a solid forward line if we decided to give Clark a pay rise and we wouldn't need to be recruiting talls with our first pick.
