Would have thought hammelmann would be too. A bit lighter in the frame I would have thought.(hammelmann) It's all good, just a bit curious as where freeman sits in our plans.

Not sure you have grand plans for key forwards in their first year. You draft 'em if they show a bit, wait 3 years and see if they have what it takes.

Which puts Lisle well and truly in the frame.

My focus has been on season 2014 but taking a quick glance at our list and this upcoming draft group my preference would be Wright or McCartin. Our list is desperate for a highly rated KPF. I think our KPD stocks are sorted with the likes of Clarke, Gardiner and McStay. Our midfield could use another A grade player, however, it is much easier to recruit a top class mid compared to recruiting a top class KPF. I think McCartin and Wright both have the ability to make it at AFL level and I am hoping one is available at our pick. If not I would not be opposed to Durdin as a KPP prospect and Petracca looks like a neat player and would probably top off our midfield.

Wright can make an impact next year whoever he's with. He's not a speculation pick he will play the majority of 2015 in the seniors. Hopefully it is with us because with a fleet of mosquito's you need a big lead up forward who can mark on the lead and go back and nail it or bring the ball to ground for them to go to work. Great review Pantera!

Thanks for the report Panthera.

Josh Clayton been in the best in the last 3 games now, notice him at all?

The other I have been keeping an eye from afar is Brayden Maynard (watched for him in the televised Champs Games) - also played for the Dragons & was also in the best. Stong Lions connection & likely to be around for our 2nd pick if not required to be used elsewhere - Academy Selections. Goes alright from what I have seen.

Totally agree. Alot when talking up our future forward line leave Freemans name out. Hence my question. Oversight, not rated as high etc..hammelmann has really only played against kids, yet his name comes ahead. B f hype maybe?

Went along to see Calder v Sandringham earlier today :footy:

Got to the game at the start of the 2nd quarter. Quarter time was 2 goals to 1 (none to Wright).

A few pieces of play:

Wright (playing out of the goal square) kicks his first, 5 minutes into the 2nd qtr. after a strong lead, mark & goal. Talks a lot to his teammates (in a positive way). Repeat leads all the time. Commanding presence.

Swapped into the ruck halfway through the second after supply totally dried up (zero inside 50's for 10 mins). Got the hit out that led to a F50 but his replacement at FF looked lost.
Dropped back onto the wing to take a great defensive pack mark. Imposing figure. Punches it through for a behind minutes later. Does all the team things very well. Floated forward last bit of qtr. Horrible supply.

Tyler Roos gets a lot of the ball but butchers it most times. Can’t see him improving his disposal enough for an AFL career.

Wright now at CHF to start of 3rd. Runs under the ball after an average attempted pass. F50 ruckwork is exceptional. Got 5m off his opponent, kick goes 5m over his head (he should get used to this).

Wright gets a free kick from 45m. Grazes post. Kicks goes 15m over goal line with slight breeze.

Ball rolling at his feet. Gets down with ease but fumbles slightly. 2nd & 3rd efforts are good. Kicking to him at CHF is atrocious.

Kid nearly knocks my can of Coke over with his toy footy.

Calder doing most of the attacking now. Back to FF after a stint in the ruck. Marks over 2 just outside the goal square and kicks truly from 15m on slight angle.

Smashes three opponents and takes a huge pack mark. Kicks straight from 30m. Big fist pump after that one and rallying cry to his team :thumbsu:

Calder dominating.

Ball drops in front of him, gets it and snaps around the corner. Out on the full. He’s starting to move around the F50 like The Hulk. Defenders are calling for extras in the hole in front of him.

Slots his 3rd of the quarter with very smart lead, mark & goal. Ice cold finish from boundary line.

Dominant quarter to bring his team back into it. From 36pts down, Calder go into the final quarter just 8 pts down.

4th qtr. starts with Wright being double teamed, 2 v 1. Not much ball coming in first 20mins. He’s in zero contests. I left as Sandringham kick the sealer.

Is he a direct replacement for Jono Brown? No, but his kicking is the same. Hits it hard and straight, no matter where he’s kicking from. Kicks like a forward, not a dopey ruckman.

Is he more a ruckman than a KPF? Not sure, but he’s very smart when playing deep forward and knows how to play there. No issue with him being our first pick after seeing how he goes about it.

Is he capable of playing a forward type role in the AFL? Definitely!

Would Close and Hammelmann compliment his playing style, physique? I think they’re all totally different players and it would be very hard to match up on such a forward line in coming years, especially with Green, Zorko & Taylor hanging around in the same area.
Me too! I think I can see myself in one of those fotos! :D

Nice write up - I would not be surprised if there were close to 10 kids from the Dragons & Cannons that get drafted in this years National/Rookie drafts, a fair bit of talent on the paddock today and a hell of a lot of club recruiters/advisers on the other side of the fence today!

Can't say I took any notice of any of the others, but none really stood out all the same...I just swapped ends after quarters to stand behind Wright. Roos' name was called a lot so I guess he got a bit of it, but his disposal and even decision making is quite poor

I'll ask the question again, not necessarily to you, why no mention of freeman? Almost 200cm and with what seems a good build to work with. Hardly seen anything of him so can only go off reserve write ups. They seem reasonably happy with his progress.

Reserves write ups appear Happy with Freeman's progress but in the context of being a project player. Manages to kick 1-2 goals each week but from the stats I've seen on here it's only from 3-4 marks and 6-8 posessions. So not really ready for senior football. Unless we decide to give him 1 or 3 just to show him the level.

Lauments was on Wright (who kicked 4) and got smashed in all the one on ones (however few there were)...named 2nd best

Got excited after reading Panthera's review of Wright then read someone else's report elsewhere (can't link it) that was just as deflating as Panthera's was exciting.

Now I am back in Wright limbo again. Hope the remainder of the TAC cup is revealing.

So, Petracca eh...

Seems to me we are putting all our eggs in 1 basket re Wright. Less than 50/50 we get him, IMO. Would like to hear some more about the top 5 personally. Not a whinge, just a request.

There does seem to be a few other decent KPF prospects but the line between drafting best available and best KPF becomes blurred. IMO.

At the moment it seems that the top 3 are breaking away from the others. Still a chance to get any of McCArtin Wright and Petracca

Me thinks we should put it to a vote and contact Leppa to inform him of our wishes. Our opinion matters the most, right?

There were photos. ;)

Said contributor is known to frequent these parts. If they wish to cross-post that would be great but I won't put pressure on them. :P

I'm going to reserve my right to flip flop on this issue constantly between now and draft day and afterwards will proclaim he is a gem/dud depending on whether we draft him or not.

Yeah - I'm no draft expert and certainly don't see every TAC game.

I usually only head to the TAC finals but this game had a lot of kids that I think have ' AFL potential'. Peter Wright is no exception, I see him more as a ruckman than forward and on what I had seen of him in last years finals and on Sunday adds to my thoughts that he is more of a Ben McEvoy type of player. He is currently a man/boy and dominates pack marks over kids 2,3 even 4 inches shorter without having a huge leap. He leads but IMO doesn't seem to have a 'true forwards' leading patterns or a lot of running to space.

I think his ability will be best suited to a team plan that requires him to ruck and roam between the arcs, occassional resting up forward but predominately play a kick behind the play as an interceptor.

Again - no expert and just sharing some observational thoughts and fotos.
