Melbourne would love Petracca but Having a need for a key forward and Petracca going to StKilda in this situation do really think they will let McCartin drop. Realistically can't see it I guess we can dream though

They do have Hogan coming through. Wright may fit their needs.

I thought Wright and his ability to ruck suits them more than McCartin. They are a bit thin with the rucks, having Wright and Hogan up forward would give them massive marking power, and a genuine 2nd ruck.

I don't think it is dreaming. There are enough question marks on McCartin for one or two clubs potentially to look to take a safer bet.

Roos has said he'd love a big midfield at Melbourne. He's also said in the past that taking talls early in the draft is a risk. So that might suggest a midfielder is his preference. Then there's the fact that a forward-ruck like Wright might suit Melbourne's forward set up more.

Then we've got to factor in the water still to go under the bridge. Who stands up between now and the end of the season could play a big part in the draft order. The draft combine could be make or break for someone like McCartin - imagine if he measures in at 193cm and doesn't perform well in the running tests? All of a sudden, there are more question marks on him as a modern forward prospect.

Don't go closing those blue eyes of yours to the possibility that something might happen that is different from what the pundits suggest.

I think Melbourne would select McCartin over Brayshaw.
im not saying they wont but thier both possibilities
Why wouldn't we take Wright .McCartin wont get past Melbourne
wright is more of a ruckman/forward and we already have stef and luey for the next 3-4 years and im just suggesting something, Mccartin could be picked up by stk gws or melb but all three teams can go in another direction

This is all depending on whether Saints take Petracca first instead of Mccartin. I can't see them taking Petracca as they need a forward to take over from Reiwoldt.

wright is more of a ruckman/forward and we already have stef and luey for the next 3-4 years

3-4 years is the perfect development window for the next forward.

It's still not totally clear whether Wright is a ruck/forward or forward/ruck. There is a big difference.

This. If we draft Wright it's not for short term gain, it's thinking long term. If all goes well, five years from now Archie will be our no. 1 ruck and Wright could take the forward/ruck role with Close/Hammelmann/Freeman being our other KPF's. That's a pretty strong forward line.

That being said, I'm pretty keen on Lever. Growing that extra few cm's and with his exceptional vert leap and agility, we could have the best defense in the league going forward with Dizzy, Clarke and McStay taking.over Patfull's current role as third man and also swinging forward when needed. Assuming he has a good showing at the.combine and his.ACL injury doesn't hinder him I'd take Lever in a heartbeat.

That probably depends on whether some people see him as a ruckman purely because of his height, or because he projects as a better ruckman than a forward.

i agree with you that we have to be looking for a new ruck soon but if mccartin is available i would take him, as it takes long for key forwards to devolop aswell
has anyone thought about gws overtaking us, if they beat collingwood and bulldogs and we lose both our games( dont really want to but its likely) then they will take our spot

Wasn't exactly what I was saying. I still haven't been totally convinced that he isn't a legitimate forward option.

Twenty touches, ten marks and five goals on a forward flank. Fair effort for a ruckman :D
Hopefully he showed what he could do around the ground and shook off the criticism that he only dominates because of his size. Fwiw I think he's the perfect fit for our list and would be ecstatic if he was available at our pick. Even if he turns out a genuine ruck, he's the right age to be able to take over from Leuy, Stef and West. If he's a forward/2nd ruck, fantastic. He'll be useful either way.

It is a gutsy move to take a needs pick over best available, particularly at the top end of the draft.

If Petracca becomes the undisputed best player in the draft, then St Kilda will be in an interesting position.

Again though, we're talking about possibilities in a draft where there appears to be a higher degree of uncertainty than is ordinarily the case.

Wright.

McCartin is obviously a better fit for us but I am firmly in the "doubt he will be available" camp.
yeh thats what im saying if mccartin is available at our pick then we take him %100 but if wright is available their could be better options like brayshaw or durdin who already have a position where they play best

I just dont buy that Wright is a ruckman and wont make it as a forward. Ive never seen a ruckman do what he does up forward. Even on some limited footage of him, he moves like a forward, not a ruck.

I question that if he was 195/196cm and was doing what he was doing up forward, would there be any question on his ability? Does he get pushed into that ruckman role just because of his height, or because he can actually play in the ruck.

Should we start up some rumours about Petracca and his non footballing antics? I heard he has a hamstring problem and that he was found canoodling with his coaches wife.
I also heard a rumour that he only wants to play for Brisbane and will ask for a trade to us as soon as his rookie contract is over i.e. Wingard. May as well let us draft him ;)

Its a good point, without any specialised knowledge on how he plays it is rare for a player that is 200cm tall that is agile be seen in the AFL, which is why he gets pegged with the 'ruck' brush. I think what we should probably remember though, is there are some pretty athletic 200+cm guys playing basketball in the states and it was only a matter of time before a 6'6 agile guy kid started playing footy.

I'd put it this way- do the 2 or 3 cm he has over Daniher/Boyd really matter?

On the TAC Cup site they have Wright kicking 4 goals - still given best for the Cannons though. Guy called Foster kicked 6, any info on him?
