I'm just afraid of a Watts/Koschitzke situation as opposed to investing time in developing Paine, Close, Michael, Paperone, Lisle, Hammelmann, Freeman, etc. Plus it's not like we've had it easy hanging onto first round picks.

I doubt we'd get much but at least put it on offer similar to what Melbourne did. Backed up with our space in the salary cap who knows.

Koschitzke played 200 games. Watts is heading towards 100. Sure, they might be underwhelming for pick 1s, but the six "potentials" you named haven't even played 50 games between them and many of them may not even get to 25 games given the miss rate of non-first round KPFs.

I’d be interested in what GWS would be prepared to trade for pick #1, if it turns out we get it. Particularly if Wright does carry on and stamp himself as the logical choice.

The one position where GWS don’t have a talented young option is ruck/forward. Giles appears to have peaked a bit, Frost seems to have been marked as a permanent defender, and while they’ve tried Boyd in that role I’m sure they’d rather have him as a full-time forward.

So Wright might be a good long term option to complement Mumford and after him Phillips or Lobb.

If we can convince Patton to come north, maybe we can wangle him plus something else. While we’re not the most attractive destination there’d be a lot of players on GWS’ list whose number one priority right now would be getting regular games, and we can make a better pitch than most on that point at least.

It might be that Wright is more valuable to GWS, and what they’re prepared to trade for him is more valuable to us.

Many things would have to fall into place though. Even assuming either club is even interested in that kind of deal.

I can't see it happenning. Boyd as a ruck/fwd options does get all three of them on the park together and is a very dangerous line up. They also really like Phillips and Lobb is still relatively new to the game and a pretty big talent who they are trying to develop up forward. Whenever Lobb has been the number 1 ruck in the NEAFL he has dominated and that includes last weekend when fm he was named the best for GWS. I think GWS would be pretty comfortable with what they have in the second ruck dept.

That's ok we'll take them with our 3rd and 4th picks and free up another top 30 selection.

Yeah it's all very pie in the sky stuff.
Just interesting to muse about.

Our second will be just after the twenty mark. There are a few on that list that raises the eye brow. Another midfielder or attacking HBF would be good. Smith to slide would be great. Gardiner and he in the backline would add some fear factor.

That would create an interesting situation. Trade away our first chance at a potentially elite key forward for a matured elite/near elite midfielder.

I'd do it. Beams for a top 5 pick sounds right to me.
Yeah but as things stand it won't be a top five pick, it will be pick 1 or 2 and giving up those picks for Beams or Fyffe would be a big call given our KPF need.

Stats say Nankervis beat him comfortably last week when the Swans won by 75 points. So a beaten man was best for GWS just shows what crap the rest played!

That said, GWS aren't in the market for a ruckman. From my analysis of their list, the only thing they need is a small forward, the one they should have taken is Chad Wingard, a future/current star. Bad recruiting decision there.

If Toby Greene gets delisted reckon we could pick him up in the psd? If we finish low we could get him early. Real class player add a lot to the team.

In the right environment I think it could work. Pretty commonly known Fev was given free reign to piss all over the culture when he arrived. Would like to think that our club has changed a lot then. Picking him up for nothing and not standing for his bullshit from day one could be the kick up the ass he needs. Sign him for a year. If he messes up, cut him lose if not we get an absolute superstar player for nothing.

I think that understates the potential downside. Fev was incredibly divisive, and I reckon that saga enduringly hurt the club's image with a lot of fans in and out of Brisbane, which would surely deter potential sponsors. We can't afford to do either of those things again, especially when we aren't winning games. I also think it would be exponentially worse this time because it would suggest we learned nothing from our mistakes.

That is to say nothing of the ethical dubiousness of being opportunistic in this situation.

I am all for one seeing the good in people and giving second chances which is why I would be inclined to take a punt on him. But fev was one **** up after another at Carlton. This kid has made one mistake (although very serious). Brisbane is a lot quieter city then Sydney and I feel the environment + a no bullshit approach could land us a gun for nothing.

I've seen elsewhere, possibly the ghost town that is the Giants board, that the club was fine with Greene when he was in Sydney but very concerned about him when he went home to his mates in Melbourne, where the alleged offence occurred. I think this kid may be a little too hot to handle.

There's been several mistakes.

I think it's right to look for the good in people, and I'm not advocating we write Greene off as a person (though his face makes it tempting). From the perspective of the club though, I think you need to weigh up whether the risk would be appropriate for us to take with a young list and fragile retention situation. If Fev should teach us anything, it's that shortcuts barely ever work out. We need to become competitive the hard way.

Not sure if anyone is left from that time but it sounded like we were pretty bullish about Greene before he was drafted.

I agree that this incident doesn't make him Fevola, but I doubt GWS would give him up for nothing.

Not certain he fits our needs anyway. Has a knack for getting the ball (or at least he did) but it's hard to identify any other genuine strengths in his game.

A team with Zorko, Taylor, Green and Greene in it is going to find it difficult not to get exposed in the air.
