Plus you get to sit near the boundary, walk around the ground, easier to get food or go to the loo, etc.

Atmosphere.
Okay then. Gotta say from the many state league games I have attended in Victoria and interstate there is never a hugely palpable atmosphere. Maybe I've just seen some dud matches though ;)

You can still do all that in my completely hypothetical and made up university league.

For reference, the high school league here in Vic would be a somewhat accurate comparison. You get a small amount of school spirit and a few spectators coming along to some pretty decent football grounds. Not a bad setup.

College football teams have impressive stadiums and crowds, sure.
This does nothing to change the fact that the NCAA is a ****ing huge scam.

Absolutely hate their commit/de-commit system they have. But it's a hell of a spectacle IMO. Can't see us having anything near that level of competition in my lifetime.

We need to find a genuine goal kicker even if its a Jamie Elliot or Luke Breust type. Just watching some old highlights and it would be brilliant if we had Karnezis building on his debut season and playing as a medium forward

Mayes will probably get a chance to fill that role permanently with some time on the wing when we we are able to get some better users in defense.

Came across this bloke playing reserves in the SANFL likened to Elliot and leading the goal kicking and is only 19. This is from last year.

'The round 19 Macca’s Cup MVP Nominee is Woodville-West Torrens forward Jackson Press. Dividing his time between attack and the midfield, Press collected 27 disposals, 12 marks and six inside 50s while also booting eight goals against South Adelaide.'

To any Lions fans planning to go to the Vic Country v Vic Metro U/18 game this Sunday it has now been moved from Visy Park to Sandringham.

After looking up where Sandringham is... That sucks.

This may drift into the realms of implausible hypothetical, or numpty question, but here it is.

What happens in the event that two separate clubs bid on two separate academy players with picks in the same round? For example, what if one club bids on Hammelmann with a low first round pick and another bids on Dawson with a low first round pick (noting this is probably unlikely)? Would this mean we would have to take one with our first pick, since we can only match one of them with the next available?

Stupid phone making this hard to post.

If two separate clubs bid on 2 different players it doesnt matter. We have the match the bid with our next available bid. So if the first club puts up their first pick for Dawson, and we match it with our second we will get Dawson with our second pick. The other club who bid a first round pick for hammelan, we can match with our next best pick, which is our 3rd round pick.

The dream would be to have 3 or so players all worthy of a round 1 pick, and we would get them with our first 3 picks.

If say two teams bid on Dawson and Hammelman with picks 1 & 2 (won't happen), we take them with our next two picks- our first and second round picks- if we want them. So if two teams bid on them at similar picks then it becomes more of an advantage.

The dream is to have 3 or so players all worthy of a round 1 pick on a year when our first pick is low and we get them with pick 2 3 and 4 ... followed very shortly by the axing of the academy program ....

Did mccartin play with dizzy and squizzy? Seems to have caught up with them. Wouldnt hurt if we ended up with him and he already has two friends up here in those 2.

Mmm... tempting. Ive brought my wife to melbourne for her B day. (Shopping...bla bla) and have already managed to squeeze in lions v kangas. I would love to get to the under 18s??? Tell me there are shops nearby!

Send her down Hampton Street or even Southland, about a 7-8 minute drive from Beach Oval.

Just quietly I hope we are putting a lot of effort into recruiting Conor McKenna. I am hearing a lot of good things about him. Best Irish recruit in quite some time.

Played really well in a practice match didn't he? Or am I thinking of someone else? Having an Irish player in Hanley currently on the list could help sway him over. Do you know much about him?
