Lawrd. Smith has lost the plot if that's true, that ego.

There's obviously a lot of discussion on our first pick who will likely be a forward - so assuming we take a mid with our second who do we want? Potential sliders?
More likely that he hasn't found the plot rather than had it and lost it.
Teenage boys (and girls) are capable of ridiculous behaviour that makes a rational adults shake their heads. We tend to forget that after a while and project our educated, experienced adult mindsets onto them. Being good at basketball/football doesn't make someone automatically immune to the sheep mentality most teenagers have, and the propensity to do things without considering the consequences on anyone but themself.
If the circumstances are as described, I doubt it is the ego of being a sportsman causing the issue and more just good old teenage idiocy. Hope the girl in question has received the support she needs and that Archie has learned his lesson. That's what those years are for.
.....moving on then.

Good call. Derailment over - further Archie discussion in here gets deleted so we can focus back on how Wright, Dawson and Hammelmann can lead us to future glories and dynasties.![]()
Posted a while back about the likelihood we will be looking to fill as many as 8 spots on the list again this year. Thinking about it again this afternoon I got to thinking we may be a lot more active before the draft than on the big night.
If Dawson and Hammerman perform as expected and cost us round 2 and 3 I would be surprised if we look to bring in more untried kids with our late picks. I can see us making a play at fringe Giants and Suns and even Port players with a couple of years development in them.
Unless a club bids their 1st round draft pick (unlikely) for one of these players; we'll only have to use our 3rd round draft pick if they bid 2nd round as we'll either have the first or second pick in the 2nd round![]()
Also at this stage clubs will bid first rounders on Waterman (WCE), Moore (collingwood) and possibly that guy from the Swans academy that Knightmare rates so highly. That effectively takes 6 potential bidders out. Might hinge on what Gold Coast do with 2 picks in first round. Would be handy if we maintain that pick around the low 20's. On the other hand if a club is prepared to bid a first rounder on a Lions Academy player, then they would be a bargain with our 2nd rounder anyway.
There you go, thanks for clearing that up.Three - if a bid is matched, that bidder can then attempt to use that pick on another player. Also, given compo picks can't be used to draft players through the bidding system I'd be surprised if they can be used to bid on players.
There you go, thanks for clearing that up.
What order are players bid on? For example if the academy players go up first, a club that has their eye on say Waterman, may decide to save their bid until Waterman comes up for bidding.
All bidding is done at once. It works its way down the picks, e.g. using the current ladder:
Pick 1: Brisbane Lions. Anyone to bid on? No - ok, next...
Pick 2: GWS. Anyone to bid on? No - ok, next...
etc
Pick 10: West Coast. Anyone to bid on? Darcy Moore. Collingwood, do you want to match? Yes. Ok, West Coast, anyone else to bid on? Liam Dawson. Brisbane, do you want to match? Yes. Ok West Coast, anyone else to bid on? No - ok, next...
And now Collingwood's first rounder and Brisbane's second rounder are locked in.
So basically each club can bid on any player, and they'd do it in the order in which they'd like to take them with their pick at that point in time. It'd only matter if someone wanted to bid on both Waterman and Dawson and the bid on Waterman isn't matched, so that team now has that pick locked and can't bid on Dawson. Very unlikely scenario.
1. Jake Lever (Key Defender)
2. Christian Petracca (Forward/Midfielder)
3. Paddy McCartin (Key Forward)
4. Peter Wright (Key Forward/Ruck)
5. Liam Dawson (Forward/Defender)
6. Sam Durdin (Key Position Utility)
7. Dylan Winton (Utility)
8. Hugh Goddard (Key Forward/Defender)
...
27. Matthew Hammelmann (Key Forward)
)
What is the difference between 'Forward' and 'Key Forward' on that list?
