Agree, Close and Paps can play lead up roles, along with Stakes if he can get back. Marking type players are much harder. Outside of Brown, West and McGuane are our best contested marks.

It does make the discussion on Wright or McCartin interesting in terms of preference.
Have to be a massive query - massive

Going from highlights only, the CHF from WA, Tyler Keitel, seems the best big mark taker; seems to be shooting up the draft prediction lists too

Liking the mention of our academy boys Dawson, Hammelmann, Uebergang, Jackson and Andrews in the AFL U18s article. Other than Dawson (a tall utility) they are all key position sized.

If we learned anything from last year though, is that we often develop unreasonable bandwagons on these kids, and division 2 players often are under rated by recruiters. The combination is that maybe only 1 or 2 will go in the national draft.

However this means we can hopefully get 1 or 2 of these boys onto our rookie list and develop for a couple of years and see what happens, similar to Jordon Bourke.

This needs to be weighed up against the talent across the rest of the country. History tells us that Qld produces very few AFL standard players per year on average.

We already have Bourke and Freeman as developing talls. How many can we, or be willing, to have on our list?

3/4 time QLD 9.6.60 lead TAS 5.4.34. Hammelmann has 4 goals, Keays has 23 and 3 goals for QLD, Jones has 26 and Hislop 23 for Tassie.

Final score QLD 11.10.76 to TAS 7.5.47 Keays 29 and 4 goals, Hammelmann 4 goals and 12 marks for QLD. Jones and McGuinness 33 each for TAS

Eddie is donning the black cowboy hat and coming after us again,

McGuire warned there could be more pain ahead in terms of the spread of talent in this year's draft.

"I will put up another one that is going to become a very vexed topic for the next two years - and that is the academies that Brisbane and Sydney have got," he said.

"There is no one out of Western Australia this year [of note in the national draft] so you have got NSW and Queensland where they have their own academies. They have got kids there that are 12 years of age and can be brought through and nurtured. I know of one boy who is nine in Sydney.

"The rest of us this year have to have a lucky dip, basically, out of Victoria and South Australia. It's tough out there. We said at the time [of expansion] it was spread too thin but we have got what we have got and we have to bounce back from it."

Collingwood probably spend 10x what we do on scouts. How about we cap that advantage they have?

Hahahahahahanahahah. Hahahahahhahahahahhaah.

Oh Eddie.

Hahahahhahahahah. :drunk:

Collingwood have been doing it so so tough lately too with their drafting. Not to mention having to knock away players wanting to return home to play for them. Then they have to take talented players via father son picks too. Tough world out there in getting talent.

Here we are poaching kids from other sports trying to get them to play AFL, developing talent in non AFL states to increase the talent pool, and somehow that is meaning less players in Vic??

The Pies are dirty because we get first pick at QLD talent now. They do seem to like drafting QLD kids.

On another note I don't think a Priority Pick is in order. Maybe if we go last next year. I think we can easily shoot up the ladder a bit next year if our gun players can stay on the paddock. Priority of course is finding a key tall to replace Browny.

Probably because they're the club that can afford to send the most scouts up to Queensland.

P!ss off Eddy, if your so keen on equalization i'm sure you'd be happy to give up Anzac day and the Queens Birthday match, you know so everyone gets a shot, you'd obviously hate for Collingwood to have any advantage over anyone else so why don't we start there. We could use the exposure, so could the Bullies, Saints etc.

Hey Eddy when Qld and Sydney become solid breeding grounds for AFL players, you know say on a par with Melbourne we'll look at it then ok, until then go watch the 2001 Grand Final again and f*ck off, geez he sh!ts me sometimes.

Interesting that there's 3 WA players in Cal Twomey's Victorian-biased top 20 - Jarrod Pickett, Clem Smith and Alec Waterman (who's a F/S to West Coast). There's also Tyler Keitel who's stepped up so far in the championships. Lachie Weller is also in that list, who's available for everyone. What other lies do you want to tell to work your agenda Eddie?
