Just had a look over at the saints board to see what their thoughts on the draft were (besides one guy thinking they should get a PP this year...lmao), interestingly enough they were also talking about trying to trade their top pick in the draft for more mid round picks.

A little worrying that everyone is turning off wright and mccartin.
I think Mccartin should be our guy. He hasnt been talking about lately alot because he has been injured. This was his 1st or 2nd game back and looked pretty good. If his side had the ball more he could have gotten more goals.

I think we need a KPF who can ruck. Martin is a short term fix and West and Leuenberger don't offer enough forward. So it might depend on how we rate Hammelmann, Freeman and Close as a future ruck option as to who we would pick out of Wright, McCartin and Durdin.

Well that's disappointing.
All I've read/heard for a year is how the next draft will be bursting at the seams with potential KPF talent, and as far as I can tell, Wright is a ruckman who can kick and after #1 you reckon there's none worth taking with a 2-5 pick?

Not for mine if we don't have #1.

I'd be taking Petracca next (who's capable of keeping 30-40 goals as a forward anyway), then potentially Pickett who is a line breaking midfielder who can stretch defences with his run.

No doubt Goddard, Wright & Durdin will be handy AFL players, but I'd rather go for best talent if we can't get the forward that we want :thumbsu:

Tyler Keitel might be there at our 2nd pick anyway and he's more the player type we need than the three I mentioned above who may be suited more to other positions at AFL level.

He isn't a KPF that can carry on from Brown tho. People say he is more of a swingman but defence is his preferred option.
we still need a chb though as we have next to no depth in that position. I doubt Close (who is my preferred Brown replacement at this stage) is experienced or big enough to hold down the CHF spot next year and I can see Merrett playing there instead. We have Lisle (probably gone next year), Close, Freeman and possibly Hammelman as CHFs at this stage. Goose and maybe Clarke as our CHB depth... it's thin.

imo, the big forward that can kick multiple goals is more vital to us than a defender, i am sure there are reasonable chb defenders later in the draft.

there was a kid that dermott bereton said was the most talented kid he had ever seen. l think we had 1st dibs on him bt l cant remember his name.
He's 14.

Totally agree with taking Petracca first and possibly Tyler Keitel with our second.

what kind of player is he?
On the small side as far as I know but reasonably well put together. Most likely,if he ever makes it,a mid or small forward.

Brereton coaches his son in a junior team and they were playing against the team Harris plays for.
Came on to a radio show and wanted to spend time talking about this kid he had seen the weekend previous.Great news for Lions fans he reckons.Went on to say this kid at one point kicked it 45 and he was then suddenly contesting for it.

It's probably a very high standard junior comp but still a longshot. At least he's tied to us though.

I think the greatest concern at the moment is that this years crop doesn't have anyone standing up and saying I am your pick number 1 and having a definite top 5.
It's hard to not watch a game and have an opinion based on that particular game but you have to understand that it is only one. The wind, especially in the second game, was horrendous. Being a big bloke myself I always hated seeing that before a game as I knew it was going to be a slog. Next weeks games under the roof will hopefully be better to watch.
How we rate Close and Freeman and with the possible inclusions of Hammelman and Uebergang (smokey) will dictate what we do with our first and second picks. I hope we pick up the two KPF from the acadamy and McCartin and with the five of them say that there is 2/3 spots and who wants it, works hardest will get it.

I reckon Wright looked impressive again yesterday. While he played almost exclusively in the ruck he certainly looks as though he's got the skill set to play as a key forward.

The fact that he can ruck is a bonus.

If we end up with pick 2 and McCartin goes 1, I'd be more than happy if we picked up Durdin. Looked pretty impressive yesterday. Took a couple of nice contested marks, crashed packs and was very aggressive. Bear in mind I've only seen Durdin in this one game but I was fairly impressed with him, KP size at 197 too.

I certainly wont be against picking Durdin if it pans out that way. We do need some key backs. Merrett could see out his years forward, leaving Patfull/Goose/Clarke/Gardiner. Goose could be on his last year, or is at least close to it. Take him out, suddenly we look very small and very inexperienced down back. Patfull is no spring chicken either.

Go with the best rated talent I say. In saying that, it might be easier to get another defender via trade or FA than it would be a forward.

Durdin played forward yesterday so my judgment was based on him playing as a forward. They say he's a better defender but he looked very comfortable leading up the ground, crashing packs and has a great set of hands.

Saints are ALL OVER McCartin should they have the first pick.I can see them making a point of that too.

It will be good to see McStay play tonight with him Gardiner and Clarke our future tall defenders are set for 10 years . even though Wright played in the Ruck yesterday he looked mighty impressive and being able to play Forward and ruck I think he's the best fit for us.

Keitel was impressive against Metro. If Stkilda manage to get Mccratin with pick one I wouldn't mind trading our first selection for two first rounders and getting an extra tall/mid along with Keitel.

Feel like this has probably been covered many times, but is Weller a Suns academy player and therefore one we won't be able to get, or is he unrestricted in the draft?
