Talk today of swans and dees swapping Frawley for Melchiski

Only way I see that working is Sydney sign Frawley as a free agent on enough money (somehow) that qualifies Melbourne for a 1st round compensation pick, and then Melbourne trade for Malceski.

I would personally love to see Sydney sign Frawley on less money (in favour of going to a premiership favourite), Melbourne not getting a band 1 compensation pick and not being able to do anything about it because they were screwed up and he's an UFA.

With the Blues win last night and tiges last week we are pretty much locked into top 4 pick, i think we will get Wright. Saints take McCartin, if we jump over GWS and Dees i think Dees will take Petrecca and GWS Durdin. They need midfielders and tall defenders respectively. I think we will end up with our KPF in Wright.

St. Kilda getting a priority pick will make the priority pick even more of a joke. St. Kilda gave up Goddard, Dal Santo and McEvoy and were compensated with pick 13, 18, 19, Savage and a pick 8 from 2011 (Longer). They don't deserve to be rewarded again for losing those players in the form of a priority pick for being crap just because they decided to accelerate their rebuild.

St Kilda aren't going to get a priority pick. The made two (technically 3, I guess) consecutive grand finals five years ago. If the Demons couldn't get one there's no way the Saints will.

Pelchen has never been even close to a reasonable trader. His demands will be laughable and they're going to be down the bottom for a while. Better they keep the kid. Doesn't hurt to throw the lure out and see what bites but can't see it happening.

After hearing about the b/s St.Kilda priority pick call in the media, I decided to take a look at how all clubs have fared from 2010 to 2014 (the last 5 seasons).

So I looked at positions at the end of the home and away season (because that is what I found easily) and the current ladder after round 17 for this year. If you add up all of a club's positions over the last 5 seasons (including this one), obviously the higher the number the worse they have been (and therefore presumably more deserving of a priority pick).

Anyway, here are the results:

1. Melbourne = 74 (average position = 14.8)
2. Lions = 70 (average position = 14th)
3. Gold Coast = 57 (over only 4 years = average of 14.3)

4. Bulldogs = 57 (11.4)
5. Richmond = 56 (11.2)
6. Port = 52 (10.4)
6. Saints = 52 (10.4)
8. GWS = 51 (over only 3 years = an average of 17)
9. Essendon = 49 (9.8)
9. West Coast = 49 (9.8)
11. Adelaide = 48 (9.6)
12. Carlton = 45 (9)
13. North = 42 (8.4)
14. Freo = 29 (5.8)
15. Pies = 20 (4)
15. Swans = 20 (4)
17. Cats = 16 (3.2)
18. Hawks = 15 (3)

So there are four clubs clearly that have struggled the most. Gold Coast and GWS would immediately be ruled out because of all the help they already have had as expansion clubs.

That leaves Melbourne and Brisbane. You would think the Dees would be unlikely to get a priority pick given the tanking situation, surely if any club deserves to get one it is therefore us. (Saints are no way near deserving even if they finish last this year, which is what the above figures show).

The go home 5 are just the icing on the cake of why we should get a priority pick this year. (Although I am hardly holding my breath)

Hey guys, I am not the most educated guy with the whole draft thing but if we got pick 2, would you trade it?

I was just watching the gws game and was thinking how is it going to work with Patton, Boyd and Cameron. Although I think Cameron is off limits but would you try and get boyd or Patton?

Apologies if this has already been talked about

Boyd would be my preference. Pick 1 should do it but GWS would probably want to trade out Patton first imo with his injury concern etc.
I don't think they would give it a thought. They already have pick 3/4 this year and it works with Sydney: franklin, Tippett, goodes/Reid.

Why trade the no. 1 pick from last year for the no. 1 pick this year, when most people say that Boyd is a better prospect than Wright/McCartin. They already have pick 3/4 which will put them in prime position to pick up someone like Petracca/Brayshaw. Unless Boyd demands to leave, and then he'd want to go home to Victoria anyway.

Plus the gws forwards are all slightly different.
Boyd is more of a forward/ruck.
Cameron is more of a stay at home forward.
Patton is more of a true CHF (brown style)

Pretty good combo IMO.

Very true. As I said I am a bit of a goose when it comes to this sort of stuff but just wanted to know if you guys would trade the pick

Not sure I agree. I think Boyd is being developed as a forward/ruck purely out of necessity. He did play a little there in his junior days too, but I think he's just as much a traditional key forward as Patton is. Only playing ruck because one of them has to, and he's the tallest. If we had him, I'd play him as just a pure forward.

Playing Boyd and Patton in the same forward line is going to be difficult due to the lack of speed and chase out of the forward line. Neither are aerobic monsters so in modern footy they are going to struggle to play two forwards who aren't going to work up and down the ground fanatically. A comparison to the Franklin/Tippett combination is probably not accurate because Patton and Boyd aren't in their athletic class by any means.

I would jump all over Boyd or Patton with our top pick though. They are both structural monster forwards.
