So let me understand you. You don't want Wright and you don't want McCartin. Any chance come draft day you will like any kid coming to Brisbane?:rolleyes:
Mate there are more than two players in the draft. There are three players in this draft who IMO will end up better players than both Wright and possibly McCartin. Durdin has been my preferred KPP followed by Lever with both having been or coming off severe injuries. They will both slide and which ever clubs nab them will be very happy. Petracca is the other player who I think will do very well in a professional environment. I've heard comparisons to both Fyfe and Martin combined and he has dominated the Champs and TAC playing a relatively unknown position for him. Petracca working with Black is scary how far he could go.

Possibly.

Or, he could be another Patrick Vezpremi.....

I enjoy all of the draft speculation, but I can't really see the point in pinning our hopes on one kid or the other this far out. The one comforting factor is that, with a pick somewhere in the top 4, we should almost certainly get a top quality player regardless.

I think so. I'd love to pick McCartin, but if we have pick 2 and he's unavailable I would pick Petracca in a second. His agility, spacial awareness, sheer toughness and strong marking ability should have him top 2 without question.

Agree. If it wasnt for our desperation in the kpf department I'd almost have Petracca ahead of McCartin. Petracca will be the one melbourne really want. Best possible case scenario for us would be paddy, followed shortly by petracca and then some distance to wright.

This is worth more than one like.

Based on what we've seen of our last couple of our draft cohorts, I think our recruiting team is in a really good patch of form and I'm sure it wasn't all or even mostly Rob Kerr. I'm confident that we'll use our high draft picks well.

You're taking all the fun out of it.

What do you base this on?
Wright is best as a ruckman so that is why he is not on the list. He can play as a permanent forward but imo he won't be anything special as a forward and will be best served as a ruckman where I rate him quite highly. There are a lot of good solid ruckman in the AFL atm and I think he will slide as teams will be reluctant to take a ruck early given that solid rucks are easy to find and don't have the same impact on teams as other positions.
It's strange that opinions on Wright vary so greatly.
I'd imagine some of them will end up being way off.
Is he a potentially dominant KPF with a big tank and the ability to play in the ruck, or probably the best ruckman in the draft but nothing special?

TFB, the fun is watching/reading others explaining who we should be getting and why, particularly when they've never watched them play live.

Of course, some keyboard experts are eventually proven right, but then again favourites often salute at the races as well....

In the majority of your posts about Mccartin you're underselling him so much it's not funny. He is rated as the first pick this year for a reason, he is a competitive monster & goal kicking machine. Whoever ends up with him will have a forward who will dominate for the next decade in my opinion.

While I mostly agree with you and he will likely be a great player, you do need to temper your expectations. It will in all likely hood take up to 5 years before any of these key forwards begin to dominate the comp. That doesn't mean we shouldn't draft them but it does mean that we shouldn't have such high expectations on them

I don't expect him to dominate straight away, I understand talls take time to develop. But to say you don't want to draft Mccartin because you think his skin folds will end up bad is just ridiculous.

I'm also inclined to think that skin-folds taken out of context mean absolutely nothing. They are a proxy for your physical condition. If he is showing high level ability and there is no reason to expect that he isn't physically capable of doing well (haven't seen anyone suggest this), I can't see how his skin folds are important.

Stuart Dew likes this ;)

If a kid has high skin folds and is still dominating I tend to think of it showing how much he could improve if placed in the professional environment. As opposed to the already super organised and fit players at junior level may not see as much physical improvement

McCartin is a 193cm leading forward isn't he? Is he the dude we need that brings a strong physical presence?
Could be - Lynchy was just 193. Question of whether he will muscle up over time. That fat could all turn to muscle with the right weights program.

Technically you can't turn fat into muscle but I get the drift. Over time he could indeed pile on some size. Lynchy was a monster in the weights room. I guess in weighing up Wright and McCartin I think this should be considered as we have a few second tall leading type prospects but really lack the monster imposing forward who creates a contest crashes packs and at the very lest brings the ball to ground. I'm wandering if MCartin brings this, at the same time I wander if Wright is a man child outplaying his rivals at the moment but will come back to the pack as his rivals close the physical gap. Hope our recruiters get this one right.

Have you seen him play? What he lacks in cm's he makes up for in presence and impacting the contest. Do not let 193cm fool you, he hits as hard as any and splits packs wide open.

Some people are just a bit bigger. I just like that despite his height, he knows how to use his size. Doesnt seem to be any knock on his professionalism. Wasnt he the diabetic? And to even play he has to have a real strict diet?

Yeah he is a diabetic mate, type 1 I am pretty sure.
