Well Boyd won't be going anywhere now that Patton is gone for 12 months with a knee. I honestly think if Dayne Beams shows any interest in playing for the Lions we should be all over it. Pies face the risk of losing him for next to nothing in 2016. If they trade him at end of this year for our first round pick then they can't stand their rebuild and we can continue to build a very strong side for the future. win -win. Imagine our midfield Rocky Hanley Redden Rich Zorko Beams x2 Aish Mayes Bewick Lester. Not to mention Martin is getting 20+ touches a game right now. The best sides have midfield depth that bats 6-7 deep. Also means the opposition then have to think who do we tag out of this lot.

Beams would complete our midfield so well. An balanced inside/outside goal kicking mid is something that we are lacking at the moment. Would be the final core piece to our midfield unit then we could add the cream in later drafts with X factor and speedy types with kicking skills. Maybe a straight swap Leuey for Beams? Don't believe the BS Collingwood posters are saying about Grundy/Witts ruck combo. Witts is speculative and probably won't be on their list in 2 seasons while Grundy is just too young to shoulder ruck load. I can see it as a win-win situation between the two clubs.

Yep. The options are to accept our 1st pick this year or we get him for nothing next year.
It would just complete our midfield if we had him. Not sure how accurate these rumours are of Dayne thinking about coming here tho.

Edit: SizeMatters beat me

I don't think we need to trade Leuy.
If we are going to spend our 1st pick on Brayshaw or a midfielder then we might as well get a much better midfielder in Beams and keep Leuy.

If today's game finishes with the giants winning, surely that will give us more of a chance on picking up Brayshaw. Saints will pick up McCartin, if Melbourne get the next two picks, surely they will go Petrecca and Wright. I cant see them picking up two midfielders with picks 2 and 3, The giants and in need of a defender before another mid seeings as there midfield stocks are plentiful. I could see them going Lever or Duridin as both will be gone by there next pick. Even if melbourne gets pick 2 and 3 it is kind of shaping up that Brayshaw will be available for us to take.

I actually feel they'll take Petracca + Brayshaw.

Historically, Roos doesn't like to use early picks on talls.

Yeah I get that but with Clark gone I really don't think that their forward structure is that good. Hogan has to come in obviously but I really don't see Dawes being a dominant force to hold down the other key forward position. Also with Jamar being 31 surely they can not afford to let a ruck/forward like Wright slip through!!

Roos has 2 years to get the team going...think they take mids, especially two that are AFL ready in Petracca & Brayshaw :footy:

If GWS finish above Melbourne, and assuming they do not receive and compos (priority or compensation for Frawley), will this increase our chances of picking up Wright? Roos would love Petracca, and surely GWS will have no need for Wright?

In a formula devised by Terry Wallace on TAC Future Stars, the Lions rated #1 for draft success across the past five years. The panel were quite complimentary of our ability to identify talent, but the obvious concerns which they highlighted was our inability to retain the said talent.

With the list we're currently building, if we can retain all of this talent, I reckon we're well on our way to reaching a sustained period of success i.e. top 4 side in about 3-4 years time.

Who was the guy that picked up all these guys in the draft. Hopefully he is still at the club.

Terry Wallace hey?

Wasn't it Kerr and Conole, although I'm not sure about the latter. Hadley was involved a few years ago, but I'm not quite sure on the overall structure, save for Schwab being somehow involved if I'm not mistaken.

The 'list manager' yes.

I'm just as cynical about Wallace as the next guy, but you couldn't argue with his logic regarding our recent success at the trade table, irrespective of our not so impressive retention rate. Like any draft, of course we could knit pick and say we should have taken this guy over the next guy i.e. Lynch instead of Polec, but for the most part we have nailed most of our picks.

If their choice is between getting something and getting nothing, then we should at least be trying to lowball them. Remember how they played the Nick Stevens deal all those years ago? Offered Port a pittance based on the fact he'd go into the preseason draft otherwise. Sure, Port called their bluff and he went to Carlton, but that's where the threat of free agency works more in our favour than the PSD would.

One interesting article today mentioned possibility of pies finishing as low as 12th and having pick 7.

Suggestion that would be market value for darcy Moore and would requires someone with a top 6 pick to bid for him. Some small chance in that scenario that pies get Moore with a second rounder.

would our sucess with lewy taylor and our game plan of handballing to a stream of quick players i wonder if caleb daniels would be an option for us, surely with his height he would drop to the 4th/5th round-rookie draft

Surely someone will keep them honest and considering us, the Dogs and Carlton all need a KPF, you'd hope one of us nominates him.

A certainty you would think.

Hadley for the first two or three years, Conole after, Kerr being overall list manager through most of that period.

Yeah Kerr and Conole were the main two.

Our recruiting has been seriously good the last few years. Especially considering the amount of scouts/resources we have compared to other clubs. I believe we have the 3rd or 4th least amount of scouts if I remember correctly.
