So my guess is that an "FB" friend is an seven asterisk best friend?

Yep and Katy Perry is my facebook girlfriend

If we do get pushed out to pick 5 or 6 either because we win tomorrow or because Melb get two extra picks, I wouldn't be unhappy with either Pickett or Durdin. Pickett because what we are lacking in is speed and Durdin because he looks like the best tall after Wright and McCartin and has the versatility to play forward and back. Also seems to have attitude.

I would've said that between Hanley, Zorko, Crisp, Taylor and Green we have a lot of speed rotating through the midfield. Where we've been smashed, in my opinion, is in winning contested ball to allow us to use that speed.

They're quick but it would be nice to have someone with Isaac Smith, Lewis Jetta or Stephen Hill type speed. I hope that with Rockliff, Redden, Rich, Hanley and Zorko in the midfield and a ruckman playing consistent footy our clearances can improve.

We have speed I agree, but what we lack and have been lacking since Aker has left is someone with speed with elite ball skills and decision making. Zorko, Crisp, Green and Taylor haven't played enough midfield minutes for my liking to really gauge how they will be. From early exposure I'm not sure Zorko, or Green for that matter, have enough composure and nous for mine. Crisp hasn't shown that he can kick well enough, Taylor while is reasonably quick isn't linebreaking fast and likes to play it safe (early days I know).

Yeah, these are fair enough comments, although I think Hanley is fast and evasive enough to break lines while still being a really damaging user of the ball. I also think Green has a good amount of composure around goals, but he seems likely to play the least time in the midfield of that bunch due to how important he is in our forward line.

As Jackess said, this season may not have been a good reflection of our ball winning ability since we've been missing a good chunk of our mature core, and the kids should improve as they mature physically.

I just think of anything, we stand to gain the most by grabbing something like an Ollie Wines type who can get in and win the ball early. It is probably reductive on my part, but Brayshaw seems capable of that sort of role if available.

I didn't mind Aish's inside work, I think he could become pretty good in that area. Certainly wants the ball when he is in close.

Regarding this years draft though, I think we should take best available. Geelong won 2 premierships with Cam Mooney as their key forward, so if your midfield is good enough then you don't need a superstar forward.

Also, I think it would be fantastic if we beat Geelong and had pick 7 again. That draftee would come into a pretty positive environment with a great mix of young and older players. You can just tell by what to boys are saying in interviews that they think they have some real talent on this list. There is no doubt a good (and exciting) culture is growing at our club and I don't think us getting pick 4 or pick 7 will be the difference of us going up the ladder in the next year or two.

You might find it interesting to investigate exactly how long it took Aker to actually demonstrate his out and out starness.

He was on the list for quite a while before he really started putting it together consistently.

Aker was very much facing his make or break yeah when he finally cut through. He had spent a couple of years pretty much going backwards. Another year of that and his career would have been over.

Though his progress has been much much steadier, it's only the back half of this year that we have been able to really see what Rockliff is capable of.

Quite keen to see Redden and Rich go around next year because of this. Think they are both primed to take their games to the next level in the next year or so.

Yeah I have seen snippets of Greeny that has reminded me of Aker. I can't wait for when he is aged 25-27 and he is consistently kicks bags of 3-4 goals. He has the potential to be an elite small forward.

Totally Agree!

Mind you Aker had been known to occasionally neglect his defensive side of the game... strange how nowdays even the elite [Ablett poor defensive side] can still be criticised for not being perfect! :(

Oh how Aker hated the defensive side. A bitch slap at the Gabba still rings in my ears to this day.

Was that for speaking this thought or being touchy/feely with the person in the next seat?

Oh wait... - on field - yeah, I remember that game. :D

To be fair, Crouch was one of the dirtier scraggers at the time. My only criticism of Aker in that situation is that he didn't close the fist.

Think Green is looking like becoming a very good player. But Aker was a bit better than very good.

I wasn't stating that Green will ever reach Aker type levels and I don't recall labelling Aker as only "very good" either:confused: Aker was an absolute superstar and if it wasn't for his off field controversies he would be known as one of the best of all time imho.

Easy shiny, was not having a go at you. Was just looking for an excuse to post the Aker video. ;)

I don't think Green is the most Aker-like player on our list. Taylor and to an extent also Hanley are the ones who strike me as having somewhat similar qualities - Green is a different kind of player, I think.

I'd like an Aker on our list. I'd also like a Voss, Black, Lappin, Brown, Lynch, Leppa, Michael, Hart, Power, McRae, Pike, Bradshaw, Keating, Scottx2....

And also, whoever that bloke was that wore #33.
