Do you reckon Frawley would fetch pick 3 on the open market?

I'm not so sure (I definitely wouldn't pay it myself), so why should the FA compensation be overs?
No, he wouldn't fetch pick 3, but he's also worth more than a pick around 20, which is the second band of compensation.

I don't mind the compo system. Top teams will get all the best players coming their way, but if Melbourne lose Frawley they probably get pick 3. If Hawthorn lose a gun player they get pick 19 (which was their Buddy compensation). I really don't think it's that unfair if Melbourne get pick 3.

Let's just praise jebus that Ablett left Geelong before free agency, otherwise the Cats would have had the number 1 pick for 5 drafts.

Yep, I understand that, but fairness is supposed to be the cornerstone of the FA compensation system so I still think pick 3 is over the odds for Frawley.
It's not supposed to fully compensate the club losing a player, according to the AFL. Over-compensating should (hopefully) be right out.

Top compensation should be end of first round. Every club should be able to have their first pick without losing positions because some one wants to switch clubs. It is there as a consolation, compensation is the wrong term as it is impossible to compensate the loss of an established player.

Frawley finished 8th in Melbournes B&F, Rischeitelli won ours in his final year. We received a end of 1st round selection. I know this is not the criteria in compensation, but it is food for thought.

The sense of entitilement displayed by Melbourne key personnel let alone numerous supporters is part of the reason they are in such a mess. What sort of leadership does this display when a coach is seen to be begging through the media for over inflated compensation? Yet the coach questions the clubs losing culture after embarrasing loses towards the end of the year. Cake & eat it Paul?

Would also suggest the Paul doesn't speak on behalf of other clubs, he has enough to worry about at his own. They have been the most pathetic club in the League for sometime now, little appears to have changed. At least we stand & fight, don't tank & build from the ground up - thats the sort of character that constructs a winning team. They just want more handouts...........

Lets see if anyone in the media challenges this absurd request. I highly doubt it, they are just as pathetic.

Collingwood got pick 11 for Daisy last year so if Melbourne get pick 3 Eddie would be a hypocrite to complain about FA compensation although I doubt that'd stop him.

For me McCartin falling to pick four is the dream as I think he is a great compliment to what we already have.

From memory he already has ties with both squissy and Gardner which would really help his transition to the club.

Surely Melbourne won't get any compensation immediately after its first round pick for Frawley after the season he has had.

Doesn't matter how bad Frawleys' season was, it's all about how much he's being paid which determines compensation.

Apparently we don't rate the talls in this draft that highly, we'll either trade our first pick or draft a mid. We'll most likely be getting Hammelmann and Andrews anyway.

By poor season I meant that he hasn't established himself as the type of elite player that would garner the required compensation.

As for what we or anyone else have said publicly about off season moves ad this time year I tend to believe it is all smoke and mirrors.

Leppa probably assumed that McCartin would be out of the picture. After him, there really is nothing that special.

I think the lesson from Paige's phantom drafts is to ignore the first 3-4 she does. All over the place.
Pick 41: Brisbane – Liam Dawson

Position: Defender/midfielder
Height: 188 cm, Weight: 83 kg, DOB: 23/01/1996
Club: Aspley
Projected draft range: 2nd/3rd round Academy Selection
Player comparison: Luke Hodge

Big wraps have been on Liam Dawson since his All-Australian jumper last year. With a thumping and accurate kick, along with strong hands, terrific tackling pressure and strength through his legs and core, Dawson looms as a running defender-cum-midfielder. However, in the early going, Dawson looks best placed to attack his early football from defence. Dawson, whose marking abilities are a highlight along with his ability to read the play, often floats in to cut off a forward entry uncontested. The AFL-AIS member can accumulate big numbers when playing through the midfield, and generally makes good decisions with the ball. His running patterns are a little all over the place, which often sees him tire quicker than others. However, he’ll have that easily rectified once he’s into a full-time AFL environment and really starts to embrace ‘smart running’ football. Tough inside and strong overhead, he’ll be a player the Lions will want to tie away quick smart.

Maybe not just her phantoms that are all over the place.

Couldnt agree more. Dont forget the club losing the player has still had 8 years service from them. If this last 3or 4 years has shown anything its that those first round selections should be totally protected. Frawley is hardly worth pick 20 let alone 3 and giving melb pick 3 to offload him almost forces them to do so, they'd be barking mad not to.
