Be interesting to see what Jaksch draws in a trade. The PSD threat is a worry if St Kilda are in the market for him.
they have become a bit ruthless with their player cuts and trades over the last couple of years, will be even better to watch them burn in the future

Decent mark by Darcy Moore. Should sew up Collingwood's first pick if he hadn't already :p

So Buddy goes to Swans on $1.1 over 9 years and they get pick 19?
Frawley is going for, reportedly, $500-$600k and they are going to get pick 3?

Must be a ******* long contract.

The Crawley situation makes me feel that the compensation algorithm that they have designed is extremely flawed.

It would make more sense for compensation to be based on where the new player fitted in with their current list. If they aren't in the top 5 of players paid at the new club, then the old club should really only be getting end of 1st round picks. Only guys like buddy or Dangerfield that are leaving for over a mil should be able to get an after first round compo pick.

Note: what are collingwood compo when they lost daisy for 700k? After their first pick or was it diluted cause then got Young that year?

What pick you get depends where on the ladder you finish. Makes no sense in relation to FA
This was absolutely my understanding as well, but I just looked at this;
The compensation formula produces a points rating for players based on:
1. The new contract of the free agent;
2. The age of the free agent.

Draft picks are allocated to clubs based on the net total points for free agents lost and gained during the transfer period.
Only 2 criteria mentioned, and nothing about the ladder. Has the criteria changed since FA came in? I was sure the Buddy compo was affected by Hawks' ladder position, and it was reported as such.

It's quite amazing that the AFL is backing itself in to devise a scientific metric for assessing the true value of 18 year old, undeveloped academy kids who have never played a game at AFL level yet hasn't attempted to do something similar for free agents with established, measurable form in the AFL.

Thomas got tier 1 compo for $600-650kish per year. Franklin was an outlier.

It's inherent in the nature of the compensation. As long as they have tiers affected by ladder position it's a truism that crappier teams get better compensation. However that's not a stated aim of the system.

Not sure if this has been posted on this thread http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/paige-cardonas-phantom-draft-4-0.1076624/
McCartain would be an absolute dream come true, just as good as getting Aish last year! But in saying that how much does Frawley need to get on his contract to get a first round comp pick?

Sounds close to a lock that Frawley will have a years:dollars ratio at his next club that will get the Demons the highest compo.

I am assuming we have pick 5 from here on out.

Gee that infuriates me. How many early picks have Demons burnt and they still want more.

What's the deal with Wylie Buzza?

Finished equal eighth in the Grogan medal tonight.

Has the athletic tools from the footage I have seen. Finishing 8th in the Grogan for a newcomer to Aussie Rules is certainly an eye opener. Just wait for the Magpies to swoop in take him with their last pick and he becomes a gun.
Don't believe he's nominating this year. Will play for qld next year as an overager

St Kilda are almost 100% going to take Petracca if they don't trade pick 1. I heard this from a Saints board member. He believes that Melbourne is going to take Brayshaw and GWS to take Wright as a ruckman. That would leave us to take McCartin who the board member said he thinks we would take as we like him a lot apparently.

Enter Frawley compo.

Screwed by Melbourne again.
