Why are we assuming that he will be a good player just because his last name is Ashcroft? Kids 10. Geez.
Grab any decent kid at the age of 10, put them through an AFL academy for 8 years and at the end of it you have a very high chance of getting a draftee.

Pretty much my thought, Even if he does agree to train with us for a bit, he will barely remember that by the time he is 18.

Can't help but think of Lester Bangs giving advice to young music journo William Miller in Almost Famous...

"DO NOT MAKE FRIENDS WITH THE ROCK STARS!".

Can't help but think Paige simply wants to be liked by the players too much and it is reflected in her "everyone is a gun" approach.

I think my favourite times of the Cardona calendar is list management time when we witness dozens of tweets along the lines of "*Club X* just delisted *random rookie who hasn't played a game in two years*, what are they thinking?!?!!?!? He is a gun!"

Don't get me wrong. Love the enthusiasm and she will hopefully find the balance. Emma Quayle is a good mentor for her. She managed to cover the boys in the draft in an interesting way without blowing smoke up their proverbials.

I think we should drop all pretense and statr a 2020 draft discussion page, where we can speculate on the speculativeness of a kid who at that point will still be 2 years away from being drafted if he is indeed still playing football.

We all know the competition is not really about who wins the Grand Final, but who wins the subsequent draft, don't we?

He's 10 years old. I think it's perverted speculating on the future of a 10 year old. He's 10, just let him enjoy footy. Also, a lot can happen in 8 years.

Agree. It is like these big soccer clubs putting young kids on contracts and then promoting them because they can juggle a soccer ball for 5 minutes on a YouTube video.

And for every gun 10 yo who makes it, there would be a heap who stagnate in their development or lose interest in sport. I remember growing up with a kid who was state representative in four sports but, by the time he was 15, had given up all four and was playing a fifth sport just for fun.

Let em be kids and enjoy all that life has to offer. If they are driven to succeed in one sport, then that's their decision to make, uninfluenced by the media or supporter expectation.

NAIL. ON. HEAD

She's that person at work that is always enthusiastically nodding her head in meetings when someone is obviously talking s*** :$

I think he gets the choice but who knows what the rules will be in EIGHT years time.

What a ridiculous article.

There's also every chance Marcus would have moved on to a new job interstate in eight years time, taking Will out of the academy (see: Tyler Roos).

There's less chance that Will will have a new father in eight years time.

And surely there is much more romanticism in "my dad played in 318 games and 3 flags for Club A" rather than "my dad was footy department manager for 8 years at Club B".

I'm fairly sure there is a correlation of her draft ratings and the players that say g'day to her.

The Hammo-S.Black story.

It's pretty much human nature isn't it? Who doesn't enjoy receiving likes? Think it's time to turn the Paige on this one and move on to what counts - the PSD and Rookie Drafts:confused:

AFL site saying we will probably rookie Hammelmann:

"The Brisbane Lions are also expected to rookie-list tall forward Matt Hammelmann under the same pre-selection rule that also applies to academy players."
