This might have been already answered on another thread but how many Senior spots/rookie spots do we have available on our list at the moment?

IIRC no senior spots, four rookies (3 Cat A, 1 Cat B).

A bit of a concerning read really... Yeah, we might get Keays for a 2nd rounder (if he's still considered a first rounder at the time), but yet again, Sydney get the bargains. In that list alone, Sydney have a F&S and an Academy Player. Even if they get that for a 1st and 2nd rounder, that's still two presumably-so-far-considered top 10 picks there. I'm not sure now whether I do want the bidding system overhauled to increase how much people will have to pay... Sydney just keep pulling these sort of ones out. Their Academy must be highly skilled at growing talent. I'm not necessarily disappointed in ours, but last year, Hammelmann and Dawson were considered high grade talent - Dawson was bid late 2nd round, Hammelmann dropped altogether. Is it them, or our academy's ability to train high level talent?

Sydney probably have better resources and more money to spend than us. I think the remarkably high ratings of Hammelmann and Dawson were started by a few on our own board. Which is exactly what happened with Conway and Tickner. Hammelmann I never really rated all that highly. We got for under his worth.

Will be interesting to see what happens with Keays. I'll be holding off for a fair while before I state where I rank him. Have not seen enough of him.

I think it's a combination of Sydney having some good luck and more resources than us. We'll see more higher quality academy players as our team improves both on the field and off it. I am pretty happy with Freeman though. Looks a bargain.

Difference is that both Keays and Dawson have shown something at senior level, especially Dawson. Not so sure about Hammelmann. Certainly when he has played Lions reserves he has been pretty inconspicuous IIRC.

It's Cal Twomey, wouldn't take much notice of what he says. Keays as a 17 year old had the highest scoring fantasy average at the Champs so it's pretty fair to assume he has a lot of talent. It's one persons opinion. You could ask all 18 clubs where he's rated and they could all say he's a top 5-10 pick.

Sydney could be saying the same about us in a few years when we start getting some father sons, Keays and who else we get through the academy. It's hard to gauge what is development and what is luck so to speak in getting more talented kids into their academy. It's only been this year with Heaney and next year with Mills. Mitchell and Dunkley are father sons.

Do you still read Wednesday as wed-nes-day when you read it and when you type it out? I do.

I still call it Woden's Day like the good Anglo-Saxon I am.

Rookie Draft Order up on AFL.com ...... still says "Lions have the chance to pick up Hammelmann" ?????

Does that mean that we did not pre-list him as a Rookie Academy selection today ?????

Or did that have to occur at the ND Academy Nominations (ala Long) ???

And are they suggesting as a QLD Priority selection (do they still exist ???) ???

Don't read too much into that. You can't rely on them to know the draft rules, based off prior examples.

It did - we nominated six players, including Hammelmann, as academy players we could prelist if they made it through the ND.

Those still exist, and we could also use that measure to get one of these players (IIRC, those can only be used on Cat B slots).

The club must not rate Grimley, Tanner Smith, etc. if they took 3 unproven kids in the 70s and 80s instead.

We have picks 4 and 22 at least in the rookie draft. Can someone tell me whether, if we decide to take Hammelmann, we are obliged to take him with our first pick, or if we can take him with any of our live picks? I personally would like us to take both he and Uebergang who has become a bit of the forgotten man.

Hammelmann's the only academy rookie nominated by the Lions. Someone else can confirm, but from memory he can be taken with our last pick.

Look to last years draft with how we drafted Archie and Izzy.

Very fuzzy, but from memory I think only Archie was pre-nominated. IIRC Conway was a last-minute call-up...something to do with Banfield to Tigers.
