Haha very good
It's actually a really tough call. None of our fringe players would be enough and anyone that would be we won't want to part with.
I imagine Roos would want players with leadership qualities so Wallace, Smith, Stevens and Hrovat might tempt.

Once again, please dont go off topic with trade suggestions, we have a thread specifically for that

I'd still take Lever over Durdin if it comes down to those two.
Yeah everything I read suggest Lever has the goods. The thought of another first round pick with an ACL injury and that we didn't get a look at him this year would put me off though. In saying that Durdin had a quiet campaign. Its a lottery at the end of the day.

We need Durdin in this draft and hopefully can get Jake Lever, Caleb Marchbank, Hugh Goddard, Reece McKenzie or Tyler Keitel with a later pick. In Bold are KPF that might be worth a pick and the others are defenders.
Think big money for the free agents next year will get us a big name KPF, as long as we clean up our KPD stocks. I prefer us to take the defenders IF we miss out on Wright & McCartin.

McKenzie worries me a bit I trust that the club will make the right call but to me he has never played a good game against good opposition and had a few thing other things that bother me about him. I'm sure KM is the only phantom drafter that rates him at all.

Would be happy with Kietel, very low chance of Lever or Marchbank. Oscar McDonald is another KPD to look at. Hopefully someone puts up a bit more footage of all these prospects.

I worry about McKenzie too.... but if he is around in the 2nd round, you would have to consider him. Prefer the other defenders too!

You might want to check that stat, as far as I can see this is North's third finals series since 2008.

First one I can recall them winning though losses of 70 point average prior.

I'm still hoping Marchbank/Goddard cheekily gets to our second round pick :p

all these talls are having injury interrupted seasons, I do agree it is bit of a lottery

because we might miss out on a star but get a capable player or get a player who looks like a star but has his career plagued by injury or we get some real luck and get a star that plays a long career with minimal injuries

Durdin doesn't win a lot of the ball at all and Lever gets most of his possessions through handball receives, I still think both would be very good at that intercept marking/third man up spoiling role like Hansen from NM or Gibson from the Hawks

But if McKenzie is available at our 2nd pick, you'd have a look. Not many 6'6" players with that much strength fail to make some kind of impression at some point.

Then why is everyone talkin about Carlisle Clarke butcher Casboult etc

Going with the draft immediately destined us to another 6 years plus of no finals coz it takes that long for KPS to come thru in the draft(of they do and out strike rate is currently 0%)

But hey let's keep trying what hasn't worked ever :)
We've been a top 4 side with no key forwards, so to say we need one to play finals doesn't sit right with me. It would just make things a bit easier.

Need KPS to win a flag

Why would you want to play finals if you can't win ?

We've done that for 60 years maybe we should try and win one

I'm pretty sure we have been trying

I don't think it is as if our players are out there playing their guts out intending to lose

we need a good Key Position Forward, not a mediocre one
because that is truly accepting mediocrity if you're not willing to wait for something better to come along

Better to have mediocre than nothing and build from there mate

Of course key position players are an important part of most team's structures. To say they are needed is just an empty blanket statement.
West Coast lost the grand final by a kick in 2005 with Ash Hansen as their only key forward. Their key defenders included Travis Gasper...
Sydney had 185cm Leo Barry and 190cm Craig Bolton in their key defensive positions on the day.

Plenty of grand final and premiership sides have poor-average key position players but there are none that don't have a great midfield.

I hope one day the VFL get it's own draft which allows the afl teams to draft kids and develop them then proceed to rookie list them in the future.

Name an Afl team that had won a flag lately that didn't have good KPS??

Goodes
Richards
Pyke
Mumford
Richards isn't a forward, Pyke is a ruck, Mumford is a ruck
can only give you Goodes
but I meant the 2012 GF

they had Goodes there, LRT and Sam Reid
hardly very good KPFs with the exception of Goodes, who isn't really considered a KPF

Sydney in 2005 had only extremely undersized Key position defenders.
West Coast in 2006 had Glass has their only good key position defender. Quentyn Lynch happened to have the best season of his career, but not many would call him a good forward.
2007 Geelong won with Mooney has their key forward. Had a good year but largely on the back of a dominant midfield. He just passes.
Harley and Scarlett both excellent key defenders.
2008 Hawthon, Roughead and Franklin were stars up forward but in defence they only had Croad on his last legs and Gilham.
2009 Geelong - Stars in defence, Mooney okay forward, Hawkins - wasn't good yet.
2010 Collingwood - Cloke and Reid the only KPs of note. Good but certainly not great.
2011 Geelong star studded kps although Scarlett and Pods best football was long behind them.
2012 Sydney Richards, Grundy, Reid, Goodes. Solid but nothing special.
2013 Hawthorn - Star Studded down the line.

So we can conclude that there has been a mix of sides with poor key position players, good key position players and star key position players with no real pattern to it.

Yeah but what did they ALL have that we don't??

A very very good coach

KPS are incredibly important to the structure of a footy team even if they no good and I think you are under rating some of the blokes there

Cloke was tHe premier KP in the league at that stage and they had Dawes and a few others

Every premiership team has had a group of 4-5 KPS and rucks are KPS when they play forward like Pyke did

Dav1d talk to me about Marchbank. I don't know anything about him but I'm getting a feeling we're going to know a lot about him.
Very similar to the way we used to Brian Lake

always back him to mark the ball and loves to go for a run and kick after he marks it
uses the ball fairly well for a KPP, lacks a bit of height but has a late birthday so he might have some growth left height wize
in terms of his frame, he has a solid frame that doesn't hinder him by making him slow

had a few injury concerns, but like I said
it is a common theme with a lot of the other KPPs in this years draft
