GEELONG Falcons talent manager Michael Turner has declared Western Bulldogs father-son prospect Zaine Cordy as one of the best defenders he's seen at the club.

Thanks vital but this isn't what I'm referring to

Back when Ayce was drafted Turner was interviewed and he made the comment about Ayce and the interviewer said "better than Brown?" and Turner said "yes at the same stage"

Seeing I knew very little about him I got very very excited

Hopefully coz if you watch him he does get hands to most contests, just can't hold them
At least he is bringing the ball to the ground for the small forwards/midfielders can pick it up.
but agree, really hope he starts taking them.
Took a few against port and williamstown to help us get over the line.

If he comes thru and makes it he will solve so many problems for us

Think next year is make or break for him, I'm behind him but my faith is dwindling

Very true and the only info I have on him as a youngster is what I'm told by others.

I still hold hope for Ayce, he gets his hands to so many marks he just can't hold them. If he can start to clunk them I think he will be better than good but times running out

2008 would have been my draft so I had a keen eye on guys around my age.

Ayce still has time while his contract runs. But he needs to show something real good next year. I like him and his form in the VFL this year has been good, think this season has been good for his development and confidence injury-wise.

The reality is of he doesn't play most of next year he has to go

This year proved Mino needs help and not time for Cordy to stand up. I don't think the club would be stupid enough to trade Mino so it's a fight for number 2 to help him and if Cordy can't take that spot I think his time may be up

Brown was only pick 30 so there would be many players that have been better juniors than he was.

I think Zaine can be a very good player for us and fills a hole that I think we need to fill (3rd/4th tall) I like his ability to play tall or small and he's a good intercept mark and also quite quick and athletic with a nice long kick. If we play a setup with him, Rough and Fletch/Talia and then only a couple of talls up forward we could send Rough in as the 2nd ruck and move the KPDs around with Cordy going on to a tall, or otherwise play him small and let him take the game on a bit and chop out the other defenders getting in front and taking some intercept marks etc, so he really will provide us with a heap of flexibility down back IMO.

Are there any good examples of players who have had this problem, corrected it and gone onto have a good career? I've been blaming the shoulder fusing but it doesn't explain why he gets his hand to so many yet the ball slips straight through. Even under no pressure he seems to hit the ball with hard hands and have it bounce straight out so under afl level pressure he's just no hope o holding on. Anyone who has coached or been coached around this have any thoughts? If we can't correct it I can't see him lasting long term which is more reason to look at another tall.

That mark he took in the goal square against Willy then a banana goal after grabbing it from the ruck a few minutes later showed just how good he can still be. I still have hope for him, he is too talented and too committed to not at least carve out a solid career.

Listening to SEN this morning and they mentioned that Dees are likely to get pick 3 if Frawley accepts a 6/7 year deal with Freo.

If this is the case what do we expect will happen with the top 6? Does it affect McCartin/Wright? Pretty much have to rely on Saints getting Petracca and then Wright or McCartin are ours? Going to be interesting!

1. Saints - Petracca
2. Dees - Brayshaw
3. Dees - ???? Doubt theyd want anyone tall! Laverde? Pickett? Duggan? Weller?
4. GWS - Durdin/Lever
5. Lions - McCartin/Wright
6. Dogs - Wright/McCartin

That's if he'd want to move to WA.

We have absolutely no chance to get either of Wright or McCartin if the demons get pick 3 as well, either they will trade it out or take Brawshaw and another key forward. Hogan plus McCartin or Wright would be an awesome combination and one they don't deserve. Its an absolute travesty if us and the lions can't get our hands on either Wright or McCartin and we are going to have to trade up to get one.

Are Fremantle seriously going to offer Frawley 6/7 years? That's crazy, and as a result Melbourne would rightly receive pick 3 given the criteria. A player of Frawley's calibre doesn't deserve anything more than a 4 year contract (5 at a stretch).

Just on Darcy Moore... there's talk he's not worth Pies first round pick at 8??

How good is this bloke really? At 5 we have a chance at Wright will we shoot ourselves in the foot by bidding?

Still a good chance if Dees keep pick 3 or trade it off to a club with plenty of talls

I almost had his papers stamped until I saw him dominate the game against Williamstown.

If we don't get a pick in the top 3 we don't get McCartin or Wright, best available they are both top 3 or 4. Personally I would have the top 7 or 8 in order at this stage in terms of best available

1. Petrecca
2. McCartin
3. Wright
4. Brayshaw
5. Durdin
6. Lever
7. Laverde
8. Pickett

I'm 99.9% against taking Lever at 5 or 6 think that an ACL before drafted is a risk you don't take on a KPD that can be found in the later stages of the first round such as a Goddard or Marchbank. If we have 5 or 6 then i'd prefer Laverde or Pickett instead but we should trade down or package a huge trade for a big gun unless we can trade into the top 3 or 4. Unfortunately I can see GWS, or Melb going best available on a KPP let alone the lions who will definitely go tall.

No way melbourne use take their frawley pick to the draft. I wouldn't be surprised if Roos trades both of their first rounders to be honest.

I've said it before, but if we want wright badly enough, he's there for the taking.

We can't try to win every game, ie not tank, and then whinge that we can't pick the absolutely top end KPP talent. If we want a Patton/McCartin/Wright, we either need to trade to get it, or lose every game to get pick 1.

Trade don't know how and don't know who but thats the only option at this stage, try and upgrade our 2nd rounder to another first to get a good package deal going.

I haven't been following the draft very closely, but from what I've read and the footage I've seen, this years top 10 crop don't look to be in the same league as the talent available in the last 2 years. Is that an unfair assessment?
