For mine, we go for one strong pack marking, straight kicking KPF, be it by trade or in the draft. Between Jones,
Cordy, Williams and Campbell we can easily fill the No2 KPF fairly easily.
I would also go for a genuine tall KPD. This could free up Fletch R to be potentially another forward option, where I
prefer him anyway. It also allows Moz, Talia and Young to play as 3rd tall defenders.
That leaves a quick mid ball magnet who can burst through and out of packs and deliver forward in the mould of a young Coons,
Dangerfield etc. type.
For mine this combination added to our current list would allow us to use the talent that we already have far more appropriately
than we are at present.
If Z. Cordy could become our 4th pick up, that frees Stringer to stay back up front where till his tank improves, I think he is best suited.

To me this would give us a far better balanced lineup than we have been putting on the park so far this season.

Even if we get a KPF with our first pick this year, I don't think it'd hurt if we also went for the best KPF next year ;)

They both don't need to necessarily play their whole careers up forward and would give us (finally) good depth in our KPF stocks

So Durdin is a tall-athletic KPP with a good kick, whats the knock on him? sounds ideal for our needs.

hasn't really kicked a bag of goals when up forward nor played as a defender on too many note-worthy players
had some back luck with some injuries this year and has been played in a ruck role in his first game of the champs

don't think anyone has really knocked him to be honest, just not talked up as much as the Vic boys even though the SA players have often played against men already

these are his stats from his last game of SA vs WA

#36 S.Durdin

13 disposals, 6 marks, 19 hit outs, 4 inside 50′s and 2 behinds.

Looked a mile away in the Foxtel cup game playing against men as well.

Just give me Goddard pls, the more I read about him the more I want him. Extremely athletic, great size, good skills, can take a grab but also really good at ground level and in traffic, aggressive and plays with intent.

can give him bit of a break, was his first game back after been injured
and I didn't get a chance to see it and can't find the stats for those games
Of course. Was a one off and I've never seen the kid play before or afterwards so I'll defer 100% to the draftwatchers on these guys.

In terms of the quality distributor vs KPP debate, I think the chances of picking up a classy HBF/Winger with a second round pick is a better bet than getting a good KPP with a second round pick, first round is stacked with them, we must go for one. We must be the only club in the AFL not to successfully develop a young key forward this millennium.... Use our salary cap space to throw a heap cash at Mackay/Rosa

definitely, fortunately there will be a couple hbf/wingers at our second round pick that I'm crossing my fingers are overlooked until our picks ;) guys like viojo-rainbow/laverde/nelson and more could all be there, thinking Duggan will go or should in the first round

Isn't he still banned?
Can draft him at the end of the year, I think, but he can't train with the club for a certain period of time, or something like that. Would be fine to start the season but wouldn't have done his whole pre-season with the club.

Don't want him, by the way. Nothing to do with the 'drugs', I just don't think he'd be worth adding to our list.

Agreed ... we have him in spades (Hunter, Dahl, Dickson, Hrovat ...)

1st Round: Wright, Durdin, McCartin, Goddard, Lamb (if he grows a little)
2nd Round: Kietel, Watchman, McLaren
Later on: Ferrari, Z. Cordy

If you include guys who can play ruck/forward like Kovacevic (204cm 111kg  though he more of a No.1 ruckman who can rest forward and be dangerous cause of sheer body mass) then they'll be around later on too.

Thanks. I have not seen much of any of these. There is a lot of talk about the quality of the talls in this draft, but are the KP players in this draft in same category as Boyd/Patton/Riewoldt/Franklin/Roughead in the years past?

To an extent - but the location of those shots also needs to be factored in.

Our shots were often under pressure, from lower % parts of the F50. Gold Coast had higher quality F50 entries which meant they were taking shots from more gettable areas, hence their higher conversion rate.

As poor as our forwardline often functions, part of this comes from lower quality F50 entries. We tend to "hack" a lot of ball in.

Agree but ....we need to be quicker at times to move the ball, to give our forwards a chance. We stuff about too much at times and I think it's due to a lack of belief in the forwards, we feel we need to be too perfect. You need to have a properly structure forward line and that will allow the mids to have confidence in moving the ball quickly. Right now they hesitate and it kills us.

Good points. Watch Sydney get the ball into the forward line. They just want to it to Tippett and Buddy as quick as they can. You can do that with good structure and if you make the man back accountable for someone.

Yep this is what i want to know too, how do they compare?

Probably a few are going to be high quality KPF's, Godddard, McCartin, Wright probably the big three but you cannot really tell until they play top level footy. At the other end of the ground you have Durdin and Lever. And for X factor there is Lamb (who could become a KPF if he grows a bit), all possible first round options.

Also some talented flankers especially at the Jets where they seem to have horded them, all good options in the second round.

I have a feeling that this year they'll be some KPP that will get taken in the third or forth round that will make recruiters look silly.

I hope we get a KPF with our first pick and the couple or so above us are all spuds, is that too much to ask for? :p

Agree there are some KPP later in the draft that may out perform the top rated KPFs at the beginning of their career, but the top rated draft pick hopefully becomes the better player

We probably plan to recruit more KPPs next year, so if we only get a couple; I won't fret too much heh

I actually really like Knightmares draft choices for us and hope its something like that :p

Think it'll be Josh Fox though I have the feeling at he could a late pick that'll turn into pure gold. This is one game from last year when he was playing a more permanent forward role as an underager:
Josh Fox

A terrific performance up forward by the big man, despite the talent of his opponents in Round 4. He finished with 5 goals, 11 marks (4 of those contested) and 15 touches.
this year he is play no 1 ruck though cause they have no ruckman :( so he won't kick bags like last year. Though this means that he'll be cheap draft wise ;)

I have a feeling if we draft a big contested marking KPD we will probably turn him into a forward, turn the junior level forwards into backmen and junior defenders into forwards :p its a funny old game

Zaine has been named for the game on Sunday against SA

Viojo-Rainbow playing for Metro, looks like Laverde and Duggan are missing out
which is really strange, but likely trying not to play too many at once from the same side or give them bit of a rest before they'll face SA
