That's true, I guess we could be saying the same things about Bontempelli, Macrae, etc. I just thought that with so many early picks, and picks in general, they'd have taken a more measured approach to recruiting to really nail it.

Of course. I'd love to buy a GWS or Gold Coast polo and hang around at Northern Blues games, and other stuff like that. Go down dressed like that with a laptop, a notebook and a pen and see if you're approached :p

Depends what they want out of the draft, I guess. Will they be so petty? :p
Wear some aviators as well
so it seems like you're trying to be 'incognito'
:D

my friend said he thought that would be too much in our favour, with the draft talent been pretty even
I expect if anything like that went down, it'd be more complicated then a simple pick swap

Picking McCarthy with Jones, Taylor and Merrett still on the board when you already have a million KP's is the most hilarious draft choice of all time.

SOS is awful and if they don't correct the imbalance in their list they will literally never improve. Can't keep taking high draft picks and then watching them leave or wallow in the neafl.

On to us, I can very much see us trying to trade down to land 2 of the following:

1. One of Goddard/marchbank/keitel/lever
2. One of Ellis/laverde/duggan

Wouldn't surprise me if gws end up with some picks in this range if guys like jaksch, O'rourke, buntine leave, and they'd be cherry ripe to want to trade up.

If Higgins leaves we'll probably get a pick around 20 to 23 for him (Band 2, end of first round). That may effect any decision on whether or not to trade down.

I think it may be closer to Band 3 (immediately after your second round pick).

Similar to what Melbourne received for Colin Sylvia.

That would suck. So if Norf are offering $425k - $450k that still places him closer to Band 3?

Eddie Betts was expecting to net us a Band 2 at $550,000 p/season.

I'm not sure what the official cut off is - however Sylvia would be earning around the $400,000 mark IMO.

Anyone think the afl might look after us if Higgins leaves as a half-assed square up for the ward compensation?
not a chance
:(

but you brought in Dale Thomas? picked up this'
'Carlton will not receive free-agency compensation for Betts if and when Dale Thomas accepts an offer to go to the Blues as a free agent. Compensation is only awarded as the net result of free-agency movement in and out of a club.

Thats right.

So if we hadn't of bought in Thomas - we would have received an end of first round pick (Band 2).

Us losing an experienced head like Higgins and in that age range we really lack, would hurt massively
:( a band 2 or 3 pick, would at least mean the draft goes pretty quick I guess

certainly not in comparison to the Scully compo...

but made out like crooks compared to gary ablett compo.

the whole compo thing is bollocks. it's never been called 'adequate' compo, or 'just' compo, nor 'fair' compo. we've all got our panties in a twist - it is a 'rebate' rather than a like for like replacement.

GWS and Gold Coast have told recruiters that they will trade for top 10 picks -as they need to refine there lists over the next 2 years
Massive chance to trade pick 6? for picks 14 and 22

If this happens we could look at

Inn

pick 14 -Weller or Leverde best avaliable
pick 22-Elliss could be anything runner with skills
pick 27-Read I think will grow to 205cm and can go forward
pick 44-Cordy CHB
pick 60-Jong

Out
Gia
Pearce
Fuller
Williams
young
goodes

We should not entertain trading out of the top 10 unless we get a KPF in return. We need as much premium talent as possible and it's much harder to find outside of the top 10.
usually I'd agree
but in this draft, I'd disagree and strongly
the talent is very even, that is why I don't think clubs would really want to bother upgrading
chances are, there are no true pure KPFs at our first anyway

If Higgins leaves (which I still don't want) and we get end of first round compo, would people trade that and our first pick for the suns two first round picks?

So it could be something like pick 7 and 21 for 12 and 15.

If Gold Coast trade up it will be to get Weller. That's the man I presume they want.

Ok this draft pros and cons

McCartin -Pros>Great lead good kick pure FF
Cons>Health issues and a one trick pony

Wright -Pros >power forward and Ruck we need that over the next 8 years
-Cons>but as we all no talls can be a risk early (Longer)

Pettraca-Pros> Damaging on the scoreboard beast of a kid and ready to go
-Cons> I know his family and they all bow out weight issues his upside isnt that big

Durdin - Pros>Upside is massive been injured but can play anywhere
-Cons > light frame will take ages and champs very avarage at best

Bradshaw Pros>Great inside ball winner good skills
cons>Has a good all round game but speed an issue and we have 4 off him better

Goddard Pros> kids got untaped talent play anywhere reminds me off Roughead a bit but a better kick
Cons> we have Cordy coming to fill the same position and have Talia and Roberts

Ok what does this tell us?

We need to trade pick 5 or 6 for two second rounders perfect draft to do it as both GWS and GC need to trade over the next 2 years

I think you're being too generous to Goddard.

His major negative in my opinion is his mental application.

I saw one bit of play from Goddard during the champs which summed him up - and that was his chase (or lack of) in a one on one vs. Durdin along the boundary. He simply just stopped and dropped his head half way through and allowed Durdin to run on and control the ball unopposed.

He also doesn't really impress me much as a forward, looks a lot more comfortable as a defender.

what?! Pick #7 (which is what you will end up with) for a couple of second round picks?

You can do better, you're underselling the pick.
