Billings comes off as a 'lights are on but nobody's home' type in every interview I've seen. He's going to be a terrific player though, love that he's good on both feet. I'm not sure I'd have gone for him if he was available at our pick, I guess we'll see how he goes.

The rumours seem to be that Grundy is intelligent and well grounded off the field but he does get into a bit of strife on the field at times. They took Taylor Adams, so I guess they don't worry too much about the off field stuff, they just back themselves, as you said.
if Billings becomes a midfielder fulltime, I believe he could be very good

what will be sweet is when we eliminate Collingwood from a final, only spending less then a quarter the money Collingwood does
the most exciting player I think they've picked up is Ben Kennedy; really rate him

Seems like he'd pass B-Mac's 'good person' character evaluation. Macrae on one wing, him on the other. (salivates).
he gets compared to Macrae but doesn't have the baulk, but is much faster
Macrae is a better decision maker, Laverde better skill wize
Laverde also has a broader frame, but is a tad shorter

this is at the same age of course, lets wait until the Jets make the finals
I think he'll be the most important player for his side that needs to play well if they are to get deep

Gia (former Jets player) out
Laverde in?

I'm not comparing them as players because clearly they are quite different (Laverde has wheels and a leap) but they play the same position as juniors (half fwd) and would project to in the AFL as well (wing/outside mid type).

I know you weren't, I know others have
even in the phantom draft thread

you're right though, having two of them and Bontempelli

potentially could be one of the most dangerous midfields in the competition
and thats after all the b.s drafts which GWS & GC r*ped

Didn't realise marking was one of Laverdes strengths, thats a huge tick for me.
Him or Weller would certainly class up our midfield and best of all, they wouldn't need to play there

I think they could be sent down back to work on their defensive side and become a player that is an offensive/defensive weapon

maybe Laverde is getting a little too much hype, I'm holding back until the Jets make finals and I really hope they do
because they've got some talented players

Grundy also made it known that he had no interest in going to gws and would leave after his 2 years were up. Instead of being interviewed by the clubs, he was asking them how they could develop him and what they could do for him.
Glad we didn't go after him then.
His year in the seniors hasn't been great.

The Grundy hype is completely disproportionate to his potential.

See him almost every week, and he does some nice things, and I understand that he's only a second year player, but he's going to frustrate Collingwood supporters for as long as he's there.

Could Laverde be a Bob Murphy replacement across half-back rather than play him through the middle?

At first, perhaps. Some say his decision making isn't quite there yet. But I imagine he could spend some time there early in his career, and will end up on a wing for the most part.

Some silliness on here re. Grundy
The guy is first ruck at 20! Most come good past 25 !! He will be an exceptional footballer. In regards to our club we should just use the draft continually.

I am well and truly on the Lever and Marchbank bandwagon. Would be great if we could find a way to secure both of them.

Lever, Marchbank AND Cordy?

Defense first ey, think that is how we said we'd focus

midfield: the engine room, then defense, then attack
Midfield is least of our worries, everyone knows that. We needs some pace through there but that can be sorted out later (FA will make this easier, a player like Matt White for example was a FA).

Defence is not bad. Roughead will be good, and I still have faith in Talia. But besides Wood we don't really have much more young cattle down there besides Roberts etc.

Wood-----------------Roughead---------------Cordy
Lever/Marchbank------Talia----------------Darley

That would be a really solid defence potentially. Even just to get one of them. Lever is going to be unreal IMO, basically an aggressive Sam Fisher.

I have faith that Roberts can be a gun forward, just not sure if its as a FF or CHF..

Lever was my favourite before the year even started, attacking HBF that can play a bit of a lockdown role
I think he is something special

its really exciting the draft, got a bit of everything we need in there

next year is already looking very 'outside midfielder' so our recruiters will be keeping whats on the table next year as well; even if we trade the pick
and also an outside midfielder doesn't mean they'll play that role

Goddard highlights (the last two game where he played back)

i came into the year with a bit of a question mark on him as a forward but watching these two games and seeing his impact and ability with the ball and moving around at ground level it's hard not to see him being at least a good afl level kpp. would be a common sense selection for us i think especially if we nabbed a Jaksch as well with maybe a end of first round compo (higgins)

The more I see of him the more I hope we get him, he has so much upside it's not funny... I know we need some height at both ends but we also need what this kid brings.......

Nah Goddard sucks. Lol. Bonti didn't get much of it at the champs either. Goddard had hip surgery 18 months ago as well. Aggressive in the air, athletic when the balls on the deck, strong left foot. A lot to like.

Where does he rate on the Fronkalicious 'eye test'?

Can't give an "eye test" score zgope. Haven't seen anywhere near enough. Be interested in others opinions at draft time. Not my area.

I like overall drafting and talent rating theory though. He ticks a bunch of boxes from that perspective, but the really important stuff (eye test, what kind of kid he is) I have no idea on.

Yeah I'd still be keen on Goddard, could potentially be the best tall of the draft, would like to see him put up some good performances forward to finish off the year though.

And I'm bloody keen on Laverde so it's tough :(
