Would Lachie Weller really want to play for GC after they delisted his brother?

its pretty likely next year we'll select a 'midget' though, there always seems to be a real short player that does well at the Champs to
could justify picking up every small player in the draft if you say Tony Liberatore was small and he won the Brownlow

do they really or are they just trying to mess with the other clubs? ;)

this is a problem I have with some of the BF hyped up players, there is still a lot of the year to go
everyone knows the AFL recruiters usually don't pick based on hype (Spencer White next Franklin )

its why players like Leslie, Lang, Cutler went a lot higher then the BF Phantom drafts predicted
and Lewis Taylor went in the second
even Jarman Impey didn't have a good game on tv but Port Adelaide still took him with their first

as for your question fronk, its a bit early to say; but I'd say Weller would be right up there...next Griff though, that would be a massive call
spencer White will be better than franklin ;) we don't need any more short people and I haven't really seen weller so can't judge if he is any good , but whoever takes him will be hoping he is better than his brother

I know, it's the easy go-to-player whenever a small player is eligible :p

Just think we shouldn't discount players because of their height. Hrovat's one of our best prospects and he's smaller than I am (I'm 177cm), he just makes up for it with composure, vision and skill. Honeychurch is my height and competes aerially and isn't easily brushed aside. Dahlhaus is marginally taller and he's very strong for his height.

got to remember when drafting, its only based on what they could potentially do at the next level..so if we did downgrade...I hope no-one is disappointed if we get two good players but had missed out on a star
GC may want to just take Weller because they've seen loads of him and convinced themselves he is the best player in the draft :D

not discounting him, just doubting we'll take him
especially as early as some people believe he'll go...its crazy to me that Lewis Taylor went in the second round where if he was 10cm taller, he'd have been a top 10 pick :(

Caleb Daniel reminds me a little of a small guy we drafted named Andrew Hooper.

Hooper dominated the u18 carnival, won a medal. Was too small to really make an impact at AFL level so his other deficiences were exacerbated

I think he's probably more skilled than Hooper but your point is a fair one.

Very much so more skilled than Hooper has more tricks. I think he could be either a steal of the draft if he is taken in the fourth round or as a Rookie. If he was there as a rookie I'd consider him very much so. For his size he is an absolute freak.

I was impressed with what I saw from Daniel in the champs. And I am with Wiz, that I would look at him as a footballer late, or preferably in the RD.
I have absolutely nothing against small blokes [ was small myself till 20 odd], but you can only field so many of them in the one side in today's football.
Fitting him into the 22 would have to be at the expense of a Dal, Hunter, Honey or Rat etc.

I think we are just better off trying to fill our gaps in runners and KPP players rather than adding to our mosquito fleet.

Can I just say that I'm philosophically against downgrading our picks. We have a gun, and I mean Howitzer size, midfield coming through. We have enough fringe talls to fill the gaps, but desperately need some A1 bona fide stars in key posts up forward and down back. Get cute with your picks once you've drilled down the core of your group and you're adding cream. We're not at that point yet and we still need some top end talent to boost the list.

this is why Eddie is unhappy
two 10 top picks next year for where-ever they land

and one this year

This is what i got banned for just pointing out some facts on the Swans board about there unfair academy . Then get banned for trolling you can,t even have a robust conversation with them . hope the swans lose the flag by a point.

I agree totally. At the moment I'd be looking at Josh Fox or Brenton Payne in the fourth round.

I can see where you're coming from with that, and if our pick was going to land in a spot where we are almost guaranteed a gun KPD/KPF well I wouldn't even be considering it, but from the very small amount I know about this years draft it just seems like our pick is going to land after all the top talls are gone but probably still a bit early to start picking from the second tier (classic bulldogs ). I'm starting to think this is the perfect draft to downgrade our pick. We could potentially end up with something like Weller/Keitel which would just be perfect. The more I find out about this draft I sort of want us to go with a quality mid first and then pick up a good tall like McKenzie with our second rather than reaching for a tall with our first, as bad as I want us to go all out for a gun forward.

I have a gut feeling, that this draft might up being predominantly about defence for us. We wont get the two gun forwards, and assuming Petracca is also gone, I can see us going for Durdin or Marchbank.

Though my dream and unrealistic draft scenario would be Higgins signs in free agency, we get an extra second round pick. Petracca falls to us in the first round, Levers injury and the unknown Marchbank cause them to drop a little, and we grab both with our second round picks, and then grab General Patton next year *if only *

Agree Wizard the kid is a freak, and I really hope for his sake he gets a chance to show he can make it with the big boys... For what it's worth I think he'll get picked up late.

Our game has always been for all shapes and sizes and long may it continue.

Good thing about Daniel is he's got fantastic endurance. Features in many link ups and breaks open the play. Sees the game well ahead of him

Just watched the two televised country games to keep a close eye on Marchbank. It's a tiny sample size so take it with a grain of salt but he didn't look a particularly special player as a key back. Just a tough defender. Will be monstered occasionally but honest enough with pretty nice disposal. I was hoping to see him play forward but they threw him back when SA started belting them. December birth so his end to the year could be pivotal. The last two were supposed to be his two worst games and he was still decent.

Think using our draft pick is low on our list of options anyway. I think we'd be silly to bring in a great white hope from the draft without at least getting a consistently capable kpf first. Jones may become that next year but I support the idea of gunning for Sam Reid. We know he can hold up a key forward post, coming into a good age and will make it easier to develop kpfs into the future

Chris25 linked this highlights video of Weller. Looks pretty impressive to me.

First I've seen of him, must say I'm impressed. I can see the similarities to Griff and can see a big up side to him once that body fills out...

Do you have those games recorded or did you find em on the internet?

Beast. Chris25 posted this about him too "Last year, Daniel started the season in the U18s but quickly worked his way into the South Adelaide league side as a 166cm 16 year old. And he wasn't just making up the numbers, as he finished the league season by playing 10 games and averaging 17 disposals." thats pretty remarkable. If every club decides to overlook him because of his height as usual and he is there at one of our late picks just take him. Who cares if we've got lots of short people (and well he's even smaller than those guys) the best ones will push their way into the team.

Caleb is significantly more talented than Hooper
And the issue with Hooper was work ethic, he just could not dapt to the elite training and dietary requirements
Caleb appears to be a man on mission, crazy not to pick him - as a first round pick too speculative but in the second round of the draft - a no brainer
