apparently the players either in next year or this years draft will be spending another week
like Duggan did earlier in the year, with another club
so they can really get a taste for the professional environment

can only be a good thing, our club gets to see two more players up close

I think we can afford to use our first few picks on talls and worry about mids later on. It is easier to nail mids late and we have a good young group already also takes time for talls to develop.

Durdin/Lever & McKenzie/Kietel followed by a mid and Cordy. Rookie a few mids, Foster and a ruck/forward.

Shannon Taylor (Frankston) also got selected, pretty solid player for a struggling Franga side and was doing quite well against us before he did his hammy.

looks to be quite a few good outside midfielders in next years draft
though some of them are academy players...

I still like our best available approach, but will be interesting to see what we do come the draft
I am super intrigued :D

Hope we get to look at a few of those underage mids from Calder. Not sure how tall Wunhym and Kerbetieh are but I'd love it to be them we get to look at both look really good this year.

I haven't started watching footage of the players for next year
I normally start in about November, after the excitement of the last draft has passed

keep hearing about a lot of outside types though

Not saying not to go best available but I think that there are a lot of good mids this year and that some are bound to go late but the talls will most likely all be picked up by then hence going early for talls seems logical to me.

I'm just wondering out of the talls

which best compliments the players that we already have, what is your opinion on that
from the talls anyway?

Even if we only win 1 more game for the year, one of GWS and St. Kilda, Brisbane won't go past us, they have a tough last four games plus we have percentage on them.

We can all but lock in pick 5.
Looks like Durdin is the most likely option at this point but our last three picks top-10 picks have all been successful reaches - Stringer, Macrae, Bonts, with the latter two rising late. With that logic I can also see us taking Marchbank.
Pick 5 providing Frawley doesn't leave Melbourne

Article on Mckenzie

Keep in mind it was only NT. Even my local Pioneers defeated them.

Could he be a bolter though?

Really concerned a team with a late teens pick or a early second rounder will get him before we get our shot. Especially if St Kilda or the like go with petracca as their first pick, well that will make them keen to go tall in the 2nd. Demons and Lions would also be keen. Hes one of my favourites of this draft and theirs no question he could bolt up to top 15 if he keeps this up.

Big boy Mc...kenzie

Wowee
Well I was thinking more about the KPDs
and how they'd each compliment the ones we already have

Definitely, especially if he is a professional about his football and tests well at the draft camp
going to be a combination of all of the above to decide where he gets drafted

Think that there is a steep dropoff after the top five then another in the second/early third. There are a few that I like like Payne in the 3rd or 4th if someone fall through to our second we can't ignore. Though I wanted Pearce last year at the third and he didn't last :( hopefully we hit yhe mark this year.

Outside run is important, but the players must, first and foremost, be able to win their own ball. This mantra has served us well over the last 3 years and now is not the time to stop it. In fact, it's not outside run, it's explosive speed like mot lop that we want; can win his own ball and run away from people. Perfect.

Also, speaking of speed, I was thinking; for all the talk about Libba being slow, he doesn't get tackled very much. Especially playing where he plays. He seems to find a lot of space inside to run and carry - if he could hit the scoreboard more he'd be the complete player.

I'm not talking strictly about how you rate them

just like
how would Durdin suit us, how would Goddard suit us, how would Lever suit us?
like what skills/attributes in a player would best compliment Roughead/Talia

and on the other end, what would be the same for Jones/Redpath/Campbell(?)?
Durdin compliments the defence the best can take the big forwards
and why?

I think Goddard would go good as a lock-down KPD that offers a little rebound to, has the frame and athleticism to negate most KPFs influence on a game
Roughead takes the resting rucks/big bulky forwards and uses his strengths; so ...spoiling and killing the contest
Talia ends up taking the 3rd tall then

or we get Lever who takes the 3rd tall, plays a Mackie type role as a rebounding tall defender who can play the role of a KPD in a pinch

.
agree with that, the players in this draft haven't been winning the same amount of ball the players we've drafted in previous drafts did at that level

makes it way more interesting to think about who we'll draft
This can't keep happening.

next year they'll be crying for a priority pick when they've started the season 0-5

I see Durdin as being similar to Carlisle and has the ability to go forward better than Goddard who is just a defender in my eye, he would give us more versatility with our talls and how we use them for matchups. Could see him being a good swingman combo with Roberts whereas Goddard I can't see doing this. Just my opinion I know that some people might think differently but Durdin is a whole different class to Goddard long term.

As for the forwards I see that Jones needs a big pack marking beast with him and probably someone to play second ruck/forward who is athletic enough to constantly provide a target all over the ground. You know I like Fox and McKenzie in those roles just trying to find the right mix in the forward line. Probably start one on the bench (Fox) unless Crameri goes on a wing and we go for another pressure forward.

Stringer Jones Dahl
Honey McKenzie Crameri

Int: Fox
