He is the definition of what Macca wants in a player. Very impressive off the field.

Really hoping we take this kid.
So am I. Not keen at all on trading away the pick because we'd pay overs for a player we don't want, and Lever would bring so much to the team. Would fit in perfectly.

Initially was pretty keen on Laverde and didn't mind the idea of downgrading and looking at Duggan and someone else, but I don't think we should let a chance to get someone like Lever slide.

I reckon it would have given Macca a hard on watching that video........ A lot to like

Great, once again I am now sure which train I want to ride on. I am now sitting on the Lever train waiting for departure. He looks like he can provide the leadership in defence when Morris goes, and he fits into our drafting philosophy. My only concern is the fact that he missed a whole season, was the season before his injury going to be a one off good one? Was he going to give us more the same? Or was he going to rise even more and become a bigger profile than he already was? It will be one of those Jake Stringer risk type picks, but happy to take a chance again.

Fills in a need, we wont get a key forward worthy of a first round pick, and all the higher rated ones, plus the GWS boys wont fall to us. So Lever seems to be the more logical choice. Though I expect Carlton and GWS to be looking on with interest as well

I'm thinking Tom Lamb is of a similar type to Bontempelli, extremely versatile mid who goes 193cm, can play keypost as well, do you reckon you'd target him?
It's always nice to have two, just saying.

Yep. He simply has to be on the radar doesn't he.

Could Lever be the ten year CHB we want? Thoughts?

Glad to see that finally Lever is getting a bit of love, was a bit lonely being the only one liking him:p I come from the philosophy, that we need too shore up our defence, get our midfield working more efficiently and we will find the goals. Not saying we don't still need a big pack market (flashback to 2009 PF ), but we might still be able to pick one up, sooner or later GWS will crack, otherwise would be happy with Reid.

Given that he's grown to 194cm I can't see why not.

Only going off what he played as last year he is more of a third defender/rebounder. Have no doubt he could become a KPD though.

Without giving too much thought to his height (which I honestly believe won't be an issue), he'll slot in seamlessly to an AFL defense in time because he reads the ball well, knows when to peel off and is strong against bigger bodies. He'll bring the intelligence and potency that our defensive six can lack at times.

Like his chances as part of a defensive unit with Roughie, Morris and Talia, so long as he can provide rebound and take the talls at times. Think either Roughie or Sid might be destined to play forward for the most part, though. In the long run.

Defence? Or defense?

I haven't seen much of Lamb personally, but in the brief vision I have seen of him(two televised games where did sweet fa) he seemed to be very Andrijs Everitty, where he is a very good athlete at a very good height but not quite a KPF and not quite a midfielder.

But perhaps he was just being played out of position.

Actually I take back my statement about Tom Lamb being like Everitt, I like him a lot better than that.

meto I think as a majority though if we don't get a KPP (McCartin, Wright, Lever) most of us want Laverde.

Didn't show to his best at the Carnival which is where you'd expect to see him bring his 'A' game and could just be another tweener, I like your comparison to Everitt I liked him all the same, but he lacked below the knees imo.
If you see this in Lamb then best stay away, but still likely to go inside 10.

Size wise looks good. Looks a bit rougher around the edges. I am very keen to add to our growing group of big mids, the surplus of which can fill the needs at half back and half forward. The only thing we seem unlikely to recruit would be smaller mids....certainly with our early picks anyway.

Leverde and Lamb should be on our radar.

Lever reminds me of Harry Taylor, looks like him, and plays like him. Similar size and from all reports great at the intercept mark. A competitor and Macca loves those guys.

Like Jake Stringer, the issue will be his injury, although with Jake he was back playing senior VFL footy the year we recruited him. He will be well on our radar.

What do people think the first round draft order will look like, now that we're close to the end? I'm expecting:
  1. St. Kilda
  2. Melbourne
  3. Melbourne
  4. GWS
  5. Brisbane
  6. Carlton
  7. WB
  8. Richmond
  9. West Coast
  10. Gold Coast
  11. Collingwood
  12. Adelaide
  13. North Melbourne
  14. Port Adelaide
  15. Fremantle
  16. Geelong
  17. Gold Coast
  18. Hawthorn
  19. Sydney
  20. Essendon
  21. GWS

First of all, Melbourne will make out like thieves if Frawley gets them pick 3 on top of pick 2.

Secondly, do you think Gold Coast will give us their pick 17 just to jump from 10 to 7? I'd love it if they did. Also, if they lose all their remaining games (Port, Ess, WC) they'll finish just behind us, which will kill that idea. I'm expecting/hoping they beat West Coast.

Finally, is there any chance losing Higgins will get us an end of round 1 pick (likely 21) or will it certainly be an extra round 2 pick (likely 28)?

Absolute travesty that Melbourne get those two picks.

Oh well, they'll screw it up again.

If melbourne finish bottom which could happen with a GWS win this week then surely the afl cannot give them pick 2 in addition to pick 1. It will ruin young players careers.

Is there seriously a chance that Melbourne would get a pick straight after their first pick as a result of Frawley going as a free agent? It seems extremely generous compensation considering that could be pick 2, 3 or 4 on top of their first pick. That for an ok player, but he's hardly Lance Franklin or Gary Ablett.

I would have thought an end of first round or late first round pick....16 to 20 or so would be fair value. Surely the AFL would see the common sense in all that.

If they are that generous then Melbourne would be fools not try and orchestrate that. And if that's is the generosity of the AFL what should we get for Higgins given his age, potential and that fact he was pick 11. Have to think he's be mid to late first rounder.

I also heard that Stkilda will be trying to get a priority pick this year too. Based on what? Nothing wrong with a couple of years re building, after all they were playing finals same times as us so do we also ask for the same? I think it's amazing they can even contemplate it.

Lamb won't be anywhere near Macca's radar, as C4[2]Yo`DooR has alluded to. He's not worth a pick as high as ours anyway.

They did it for the Saints by giving them a pick #2, and that young player (Kosi) went of to have a wonderf...

... ah shit, you're right
