I'm not sure Scharenberg interviewed all that well with anyone.

It's not surprising that he ended up at Collingwood, in any case ;)

If everything said about him is true, really leaning towards Lever. A genuine KPD who can use the ball well would suit us perfectly.

sounds like a good number of KPPs from this draft are 'most comfortable in defence', could be a good sign for us

Lever's knee reconstruction may be an issue?

Knee reconstructions aren't that big of a deal prior to the draft IMO (unless they have LARS like Troy Menzel). Been plenty of guns that have major injuries in the under 18's and come good. It's the reason Selwood slid to pick 7.

I think it's more of an issue that we're judging him on old form. The year before the draft sees a lot of kids move up and down, and had it not been for the reconstruction Lever may have bolted even higher, or he may have slid way down.

I think today shows that we still have deficiencies in our midfield. Boyd is spent and libba needs help from more than just Wallis, Macrae and Bonti. Laverde isn't one I can see winning many clearances plus I'd like Macrae and Bonti on the wings.

Lever probably the best available. After that we need a KPF, a middleman, class and goal kickers either in this years national or Rookie draft.

Smith would fix this but he is always injured :(

You don't think Hrovat and Stringer will somewhat negate the need for midfielder?

Both are long term midfielders in my view.

Would prefer a slightly bigger player than Hrovat as for Stringer I see him as being a pinch hitter but not big time middle player. Bit like how Pav was used in his prime.

I think he's a natural mid who can be dangerous pinch hitter forward ala Jobe Watson.

Good footskills, strong markers and composed are what I want from all of the players we draft at the Nationals

I don't mind if we take some risks in the rookie draft on speedy types or 'gimmicky' players

Lever doesn't have great footskills, but his decision making is very good and kicking technique is solid

Viojo-Rainbow I'd still love somewhere in the ND, strong overhead at 186cm and a terrific kick of the ball

starting to put up some good numbers to after playing for Metro, shows he is improving

We have to find another 30 plus goal kicker in the draft then. By my reckoning with Stringer playing forward in majority pinch hitting in the midfield occasionally he Crameri and a KPF and another goal kicker we'd be set. Thing is that we are not very potent at the moment that needs to improve greatly by the time we want to win a flag.

I'd rather keep Stringer in the Forward line where he will make a great medium tall with some stints in the midfield. Hrovat is good, but small. We need a big bodied mid with skill and speed I think. But we do have players who can play the outside role, I am worried about the centerline though, I think we need one more beast to work with Libba at the bounces

Clay Smith. Obviously going under the radar a little bit now because of his injuries but IMO he was ready to breakout this year, and while especially the second knee does hurt his chances I don't have any concerns that he won't get back to his best. Will be a beast and think he actually compliments our midfield well, while Libba and Wallis are tough bastards and will be great 'inside midfielders', Clay is a little different because he's just a wrecking ball and I think that goes well with Libba as the clean, smooth extractor, and Wally the half tagger/half in and under 'first hands on the ball' type.

With the way the games going you can just about line up with just 3 genuine 'inside mids' at the centre bounce because before the ball hits the ground the likes of Macrae, Hrovat, Hunter, etc will already be around the contest coming in from the flanks/wing.

I think if we lose higgins that one of our second rounds could have Viojo-Rainbow's name on it. Hopefully we get Cordy fourth round so we can snatch up McLean with our third and thus gain another 30 plus goal kicker. Would love a group of Lever, McKenzie, Rainbow, McLean & Cordy. Would give us two KPD's, a KPF, Skills and a speedy, skilled goal kicker who is strong overhead.

Injuries is the problem with Smith we need a back up plan incase he doesn't overcome them.

"Melbourne has applied for a "special assistance" priority pick. The AFL Commission will consider their application"

If they get picks 2, 3 & 4 I'll be pretty bloody peeved

I dont think he's a particulary injury prone player though like some people have suggested tbh. I think the kids just had a terrible year and is bound for some good luck. He looked about as durable as they come right up until his first ACL.

I was about to say, probably a great future replacement if that happened

VR has some speed to, would like to see him use it more
going to be interesting to see how they all test, come the combine (since they'll only put up the leaderboards)

if we end up trading our first pick, means we'll likely have to talk about another player/s :p

I still don't think Cordy is a KPD, more of a lock-down third tall defender
he used to play tennis and was supposedly very good at that; so he should have some pretty good agility/balance

Slowly coming around to Sam Durdin for our first. Obviously question marks over his consistency but he has allot of good traits. I'd want him to develop as a forward though, but he could potentially be Carlisle like if he puts it all together.

Prefer Sam Durdin over Lever; give me a Key-Defender with high-quality delivery over one with low-quality delivery every day of the week in the first round. Won't happen though, we're about a 95% chance to take a Victorian with our first rounder.

I don't like the idea of using our first round pick on a player who isn't a very good kick.

Sam Durdin isn't that much of a better kick then Lever to be honest...low-quality delivery is bit of a cop out

Durdin was a fantastic kick last year, especially for his size. Not sure about this year after injury.

and cop out? Our team has a lot of really bad kicks, therefore I think we should solely target very good kickers in the first round to help even the balance, and that's not something Jake Lever, coming off a year out, would help with.

And we get punished for no reason

would a thumb injury greatly affect his ball drop, do you think? what concerns me, is he doesn't win enough of the ball and a lot of his best skills seem to be greatly exaggerated from what I have seen

and maybe that was too harsh, I do think it is a bit unfair to label Lever personally as a bad kick

definitely something worth bringing in Skippos to get their opinion on the matter

have you seen much of Viojo-Rainbow then? Since you mentioned quality kicks

The injury itself wouldn't have affected it, the rustiness of having been out for a while may have. May apply to an even greater extend for Lever.

Lever probably isn't a bad kick, I haven't seen enough of him (only 2 games last year) so it may be a mistake on my half to assume it's poor quality. However, after being out for a year, I don't think kicking will be one of his strengths.

Also, Lever was touted as a 5-15 pick at the start of the year & in the middle of the championships, most had him drifting out of contention for our first rounder, and now all of a sudden, there's a lot of hype for him again. The fact that he hasn't been playing this year has hyped him up Callum Bartlett style.
