Not comfortable at all with the idea of trading Hrovat. He's just turned 20 and showing improvement with every game. I think I'd rather take best available at Pick 6 and go with Foster as a late FS pick. Are Wright and McCartin much better than him?

If he can pull a mark from in the air inside 50, I don't care how big he is haha. Would happily sit at pick 5 myself. But I still think McCartin is the one we should aim for, with Wright next in line

I have yet to see a lot of footage of McCartin. What I have seen I can't say I have seen anything outstanding in him. What do you see in him?
I think there is zero chance Wright will drop to us, but I get the vibe that McCArtin's stocks have dropped a bit and so he may fall to us.

Only based on the fact that he appears to be the more natural forward out of the two of them in my opinion. Wright is still someone who is hard to guess what his ceiling would be at AFL level. Easy to beat smaller and skinnier defenders at TAC level when you're a beast in size yourself, and there is no defenders to match with you. That's if it came down to the option of picking between those two. There is questions about every draftee, in fact over the pages Dan has mentioned issues on all the top three favorite picks at some point aha. If we believe Wright will fit our structure more and has a higher ceiling, then go for it. He is a big guy and that is what we need more, and moves well for someone his size. We all know that. Ideally it would be nice to have a guy built like a beast and is quick on the lead and the ground, take contested marks and kicks goals with a powerful boot, but a complete package forward is even rarer to find.

To be truthful my opinion and who I want between these two changes every week, last week it was Wright, next week it could be him again.

We will have to trade up to pick 2 to get Wright though, Lions will be one team that will be waiting if we don't. Demons could still go for him as well. And it the rumored mega deal between the Saints and GWS comes to be, the Saints will also consider him. He will not slide to us, that is a given, so we will have to come up with something

Having just watched the TAC show, it has reaffirmed my belief we need to do what we can to get Wright. He's a 6'3" athlete hiding in a 6'8" body. He moves we'll, good hands and kicks like a mid. He's one I think we might regret not getting I'd we don't have a crack. No doubt there might be players taken below him who proven to be better, but for what we need, he's a player you can structure a team around.

Where does discussion about trading picks up the draft to target a specific draftee belong?
It's a fine line, but anything involving trading goes to the list management thread.

This thread is intended to solely house the discussion of draftees moreso than hypothetical trade scenarios - even if they are related to draft picks.

Speaking of Wright - there is a better chance than ever he's at our pick anyway. With our pick before Carlton's, the Frawley compo looking like being band 2 and Ryder supposedly heading to Brisbane, I don't see any of Carlton (obviously), Melbourne or Brisbane being a threat. GWS seem to want Petracca and I expect St Kilda to take McCartin. If the Saints don't pick Wright I reckon we're in the clear. No need to trade up.

What Dannnnnnnnnn said. Easier to keep it in there, as it usually leads to discussion of players as well.

I'm with you on everything except the Melbourne compo pick - from what I understand the formula is calculated behind doors, so I can see the AFL giving band 1 even though they strictly speaking should only get band 2. I imagine this'll be as some for of consolation for saying no to a priority pick.

I agree it seems Stringers droped mark might have snared us Wright :-)

The only issue is GWS, they pull off surprising moves every draft period. They would probably take Wright just for laughs, so they can use him and other keys are future bait, wont be surprised if that is their strategy. Wouldn't trust them ahead of us, and Brisbane could easily take Wright as well, why wouldn't they? He is a need as well. He may fall to us, but I have a feeling he won't, and will have to trade up to be safe

Surely it gets to a point where this is draft tampering or something. Perhaps the player refuses to go to GWS. Why should they have to accept going there only to not play for 1 or 2 years. It ruins their development

Oh I didn't think of the Ryder to Brisbane stuff likely ruling them out of Wright. That would be perfect, pulling for it now.

If I was picking for the now...
1. Isaac Heeney
2. Patrick McCartin
3. Angus Brayshaw
4. Christian Petracca
5. Jake Lever

For the future...
1. Peter Wright
Daylight
2. Sam Durdin
3. Darcy Moore
4. Isaac Heeney
5. Jayden Laverde

How can you rate a bloke you haven't seen play for at least 12 months as the fifth best player right now?

Also, Christian Petracca is far and away the best player in this draft class. Has been for the last two years.

Because I'm ranking them on who I think is best placed to make the step up and have an impact. I'm not suggesting that Lever doesn't come with risk - I've covered that in this thread ad infinitum. I think with his skill set he's better placed than quite a few to have a big impact. I don't expect many to play big parts in their first years but think Lever plays some good footy in the back half from relatively early on thanks to his athleticism and smarts.

Cool. I disagree.

I know you disagree, I just wanted to point out to you that you are wrong and that I feel you talk a fair amount of rubbish around here when it comes to underage footballers etc. I seem to recall something about Matt Crouch being best available at pick 4 for us last year...

Cut it out - there's no need to act like a prick on here. Go to Bay 13 if you want to slag off at someone.

Nobody had Petracca as the best player even six months ago, he's moved into that spot on recent form. Two years is a huge stretch.
