I know you disagree, I just wanted to point out to you that you are wrong and that I feel you talk a fair amount of rubbish around here when it comes to underage footballers etc. I seem to recall something about Matt Crouch being best available at pick 4 for us last year...
I don't think I said best available - I said I rated him highly as part of drafting is not screwing up early picks, and he was one of the better placed players to transfer to AFL level. I was in favour of selecting Aish for a long time and I liked Lennon's upside.

But hey, I get some wrong - cool. No big deal. I enjoy sharing my opinions. Not up to me whether people choose to pay any attention to them or not. In your case I'd suggest you put me on ignore or actually argue the points rather than playing the man.

Unfortunately, I remember the 'best available' call. But there's no need to get so defensive over an opinion you 'shared'. It goes both ways, not everyone is going to agree with you. It was a legitimate query re your placing of Lever, and it was a legitimate counter-opinion offered re Petracca.

If you are going to get smug and self-righteous with your 'cool. I disagree' rebuttal, don't expect people to be pissing in your pocket after that. 'Put me on ignore' ffs.

And FWIW, in my opinion there is no way a guy who hasn't played for 12 months is going to step right up into AFL football as a key position player and have an immediate impact. And there's no way someone could legitimately sit there and tell you that he was the fifth best player in the draft as things stand right now and be taken seriously.

Big difference between 'talking rubbish' and conveying your opinions and thoughts in a cogent and reasonable manner. If you choose to take offense to complete sentences, punctuation, opinions (!!!) and incorrect predictions (you having the benefit of hindsight), ignore button is right there.

Hardly defensive - as I did with Bontempelli I wear the mistakes I make with player judgement pre-draft. I remember you taking issue with Crouch's placement on my draft board and that's fine - but I don't really remember suggesting we should take him or that he'd be the best player long-term there. I rated him too highly for sure but live and learn.

You didn't exactly offer an argument in return for why you rate Petracca so highly - just said that he is the best player and has been for two years, which came off as being pretty smug as well. Hence the smart ass reply. I'm not the only draft watcher that has concerns over him. I think he projects as a very good player but I'm not yet convinced he's an elite midfielder at the top level - he bullies his opponents and uses his physicality to get the upper hand a lot and he won't find it as easy at AFL level. His disposal under pressure can be iffy at times. I don't know how well he transfers to the next level. I think at worst he ends up a high quality high half forward and I still do rate him amongst the best prospects but I'm not yet as convinced as some others are.

Fair enough. It's going out on a limb for sure. What I've been impressed with though is his cool head under all kinds of situations. He just puts himself in the right spots. Alongside some capable first and second defenders I think he can play a very valuable role as a tall sweeper that plays on the less dangerous opponents and gives some support to his teammates. Do I think he comes in round 1 and dominates? No. But he'll be back up and running by the combine and likely gets a pre-season under his belt with little restriction. If he's in the right environment with the right teammates I don't really buy the fact that he won't be able to have an impact. As a starting CHB in a shit team he'll be in trouble for sure - but slot him in next to some capable defenders and I think he'll show the same propensity to get into the right spots and cut off intercepts. I don't expect him to be playing on Nick Riewoldt by round 1.

Anyway, who are your five for the now and five for the future?

Sorry boys but what is this ignore button you are always on about ?

Appreciate your efforts Dannn, and other draft watchers .
We're drafting a long term investment ( not just the now) and Lever suits us perfectly. ( what I've read and comparisons )

Ah, no way Petracca has been the #1 for two years, he wasn't even a midfielder till half way through last year.

Can't wait for total football's top five/s.

Where do you guys see Hammelmann the brissie academy kid fitting in this draft and where and if anyone will nominate him. Seem to recall reading that we were into him a bit.

In terms of actual ability, and I know for a fact in AFL scouting networks, Petracca was always considered the pick of the bunch. He didn't just become the best player in his age group because he turned into a midfielder.

The concern was whether he could make the transition from a 185cm and almost 100kg key forward into something remotely similar to a modern-day midfielder. In the last 12 months he has shown he probably can, but don't expect him to play as a full-time mid at AFL level, either. Just like Jake Stringer, he is too good around goals to be wasted around the ball. Then again, being the most talented player in the draft doesn't necessarily correlate into being the first selected.

I don't believe in a top 5 for now and a top 5 for later because trying to predict the future is a mug's game. No one is privy to the information the club's are regarding player traits, social networks, mentalities etc.

But for argument's sake I will tell you who I believe are the most talented players in the pool:

1. Christian Petracca, without a doubt. The rest, in no particular order: Angus Brayshaw, Jayden Laverde, Darcy Moore, Peter Wright, Pat McCartin.

Honourable mentions go to Clem Smith who, to put it simply, can just play the game. And Tom Lamb who, if he can develop a bit more composure with ball in hand will literally be able to do it all. If he doesn't, he might have a short career.

Who out of the players likely to go in the first round would be closest to Isaac Smith? This is what we need!

The players that excite me the most from this draft would be Peter Wright, Jordan De Goey and Connor Menadue - All have something different to offer our current crop. Now all we need to do is trade up...

I think those boys are all a good chance to get picked up by us I'd double up with the Chargers boys and keep an eye on Toby McLean has skills, poise, is smart and damaging. Wish he was a bit taller but he is a bit of a freak overhead if you look at the footage of the goal he kicked on the weekend to beat geelong he was playing on Lewis Melican who is about 192cm.

He definitely has allot to like, his big leap might compensate for his lack of height, would be a great get later on!

Hopefully Cordy is nominated later than 3rd (or we get another 3rd round pick) got a feeling he might not last to our fourth, guy has talent in multiple areas and bobs up when his team needs him usually setting up or kicking a goal, very difficult to match up on. Our contested marking in our F50 would be elite if we could manage him, Wright and a CHF to go with Stringer, Crameri, Bonti etc. That is why I like him so much. Would also take a bit of pressure of Dahl

He fills that void in the forward line to a tee, we have been picking up players who stand up when the heats on recently, so he would be a good fit, ticks the boxes. Can see him going in the 3rd or 4th.
