Hearing some information that you guys aren't in for Foster. Apparently he's confident in being picked up by one of 3-4 other interested parties but you guys haven't shown much interest in picking him up.

Not sure what to make of it - I give it a 6/10 on the 'reliability' meter so could well be off but yeah, thought I'd pass it on anyway.
Smokescreen?

Could it be teams will bid too early.

Has to be.
He has kicked a lot of goals but he is also a year older than most of the kids in the competition and although tall, isn't as tall as most KPP's these days. Same height as Bonts. Also doesn't look like he'll fill out like Hawkins to make up those few cm's in height by just being a gorilla.

He definitely has talent and I would really like to see him get picked up by the Dogs, but if they have a plan for success it would include a few rules on recruiting. If he doesn't fit into the criteria because they aren't willing to use earlier picks than they think he is worth, then so be it. He'll get picked up somewhere else and he'll try forge a career there.

I just hope it doesn't end up being like the Picken story (which was excellent for the Dogs). Overlooked twice by his fathers club and then goes on to play great footy at another club.

If we are not in for him , nobody will. Then again we don't need KPF's do we ?

I dont want us to think we should just grab players who had their dad's play for us, especially if they don't fill a role

Get the feeling Goddard is going to rise up the boards as we get closer to the draft. Guys that size with that athleticism who can actually play the game are pretty damn valuable. The falcons guys come ready to play as well. I wouldn't be ruling him out just yet.

Just has the Jack Watts feel about him though. Is he ever going to be the main man in defence or up front? Or just be another 2nd/3rd tall that will float around. Do you spend a top 10 pick on a player like that?

We can get him on the cheap, just like Stringer. :p

What are your thoughts on Touk Miller, mate? He seems to fit our current draft model.

Burton's injury from what I've seen is a whole lot worse than Stringer's.

I think Touk's a quality junior but I wouldn't be spending high on him. There's been a trend of little fellas going highly in drafts of late and justifiably - but all had a lot more going for them than Touk. That isn't to say Touk doesn't have game - he does, but as an inside leaning player it's always going to be tough at his height. Just has less going for him than a Prestia or Hrovat. Should still make it but I doubt you guys will go for him.

Smokescreen?

Potentially. But my source heard it from Jayden himself so unless Jayden's in on the game (and this person isn't really someone he's going to care for playing games with, not in the industry) or the Dogs are intentionally making Jayden think they're not in for him, it's unlikely.

If we are not in for him , nobody will. Then again we don't need KPF's do we ?

James Stewart was taken by GWS after being passed on by Collingwood. Ditto Jake Kelly at Adelaide who was passed over by Collingwood. With the lower level F/S guys sometimes their home club just doesn't see it and another does. A lot more interpretation. I totally get why you'd overlook Foster but I also get why someone would want him. Every chance he goes elsewhere.

Just going through the mock draft from last year and whoever Chris25 is, he's knocked it out of the park.

West Coast Eagles Marcus Bontempelli, 191cm 83 kg, midfielder from the Northern Nights
(Chris25 write up)
Possibly my favourite player in the draft, yes even ahead of the South Australians. At the start of the season I picked Marcus Bontempelli as my bolter, and I was talking him up to anyone who would listen. And I'm pleased to see more people jumping on board of the bandwagon. I've read people saying that if he grows a little more, that he would be KPP height. While that is true, the kid is a midfielder and could be something genuinely special at that height.
In previous years, Marcus has played more as a flanker/outside midfielder. He is a rangy type player who moves really well, with both decent speed and a strong endurance base. Really nice leap on him, and he is a very good kick - both long and strong. The reason I'm such a fan is because of the improvements I've seen in his inside game, he is starting to really use his body well and he gets himself into good positions. I'm not saying he will be as good, but he could potentially develop into a Jobe Watson type - versatile, damaging and wins his own ball.

I jumped on him 2 years before he was drafted ;)
because he was so tall I thought he was older then he actually was
had a long kick and maneuvered well through contests for someone so tall

For that, sir, you get my most coveted award, the GOLDEN THUMBS UP. You have now been elevated to the role of God.

yeah, unfortunately I haven't seen any other players like that
the Bont is pretty unique, I still think he can become a player like Kouta

Wizard17 might be able to tell you if I have had any 'obsessions' with any players this season
haven't got out to as many games as I'd have liked

I can confirm this. The first I heard of Bontempelli was one of David's posts a while ago.

Not really any obsessions as much. Had a few players that you have liked. Maybe Viojo-Rainbow? But both of us like him :P

I'm a bit obsessed with McLean at our third as everyone must know already liked Kolodjashnij and Bonti last year and both seem to be players, came into the draft 2 years ago late and wanted Macrae so I'm going alright. (I was one of the people who wanted B Brown :()

In terms of actual ability, and I know for a fact in AFL scouting networks, Petracca was always considered the pick of the bunch. He didn't just become the best player in his age group because he turned into a midfielder.

The concern was whether he could make the transition from a 185cm and almost 100kg key forward into something remotely similar to a modern-day midfielder. In the last 12 months he has shown he probably can, but don't expect him to play as a full-time mid at AFL level, either. Just like Jake Stringer, he is too good around goals to be wasted around the ball. Then again, being the most talented player in the draft doesn't necessarily correlate into being the first selected.

I don't believe in a top 5 for now and a top 5 for later because trying to predict the future is a mug's game. No one is privy to the information the club's are regarding player traits, social networks, mentalities etc.

But for argument's sake I will tell you who I believe are the most talented players in the pool:

1. Christian Petracca, without a doubt. The rest, in no particular order: Angus Brayshaw, Jayden Laverde, Darcy Moore, Peter Wright, Pat McCartin.

Honourable mentions go to Clem Smith who, to put it simply, can just play the game. And Tom Lamb who, if he can develop a bit more composure with ball in hand will literally be able to do it all. If he doesn't, he might have a short career.

This draft could throw up some massive out of the blue choices--Petracca if you look at his older brother could blow out like a balloon his just stronger than the rest of the boys...
  • Tom Lamb has more upside that Petracca but upstairs?? who knows
  • Lever if fine is going to be a future champion and captain of a club who Knows
  • Laverede ticks every box pace to burn height and good kid who Knows
  • Brayshaw is the Ollie Wines in this draft safe bet
  • Wright again big boy stronger than the other boys might get found out in AFL who Knows
  • Durdin moves well plays forward and back tall perfect kick who Knows
  • Moore see Above
  • McCartin safe bet health issues who Knows
  • Clem Smith dont rate at all Picket is 10 times the player
  • Picket perfect if you want a classy outside winger forward who knows
  • Goddard I love just think he will deliver as your CHB think Chapman Tigers
Now I have seen all these boys live I still dont know just got a feeling about Lamb in the right club and teacher and he will go in the 20,s

I remember Cunico, Watchman and Viojo-Rainbow coming up quite often earlier in the year, but you've been quieter recently :p

I wanted Ben Brown to (obviously wanted him to tie down his hair as you'd guess ;))

I actually didn't know stuff all about Macrae, flew under the radar for me to be honest

but as soon as I saw him, I realized he was a good get
was a big fan of Wines that year and Hrovat (didn't expect us to get him though) wanted Membrey as well that year

VR has been disappointing whenever I've went to watch him, I think I must mozz the kid
because he always puts up good numbers and has a nice highlights reel

from what I've heard about Duggan and his leadership qualities to go with everything else (like his late birthday)

think he might be a possible chance, could use the class both through the midfield and down back and he can play in both positions of the ground

I'll talk Duggan up more
First round classy midfielder, Dogs supporting, Dougie Hawkins coached, leadership skills
sounds pretty damn tempting to me, I'd be happy if we got him or Lever

both seem like they are strong leaders and back their ability to use the ball
I like this a lot, think our side could use a boost of confidence

Ok please dogs take Lonie late hopefully 42 this kid is a gun......

If we take Duggan:

1st: Liam Duggan (183cm mid)
2nd: Menadue/Langford (188cm/190cm mid)
2nd: Jakschs by trade
3rd: Toby McLean (179cm mid/fwd)
4th: Zaine Cordy (193cm def)

think it would allow Dahl/Hrovat to play more as midfielders and I'm fine with that :D
