If we have a go at McKenzie it will be about second round he hasn't been good against better sides. Sounds as if Wright or Lever would be picked at our first given on those drafting outlines.

Would also suggest that our would like someone like Langford or Menadue at our second if we manage to get Wright. If what you say about smalls is right then McLean ain't out of the question got a bag of tricks and definitely wins his own ball.
Having seen one interview and some footage of Lever, I would think he'd be right up Simon's alley. Dally does keep his cards close to his chest, I must stress that. And he has a strong Marcellin connection so we might have a crack at McKenzie :)!

I bet Simon likes players that are hard workers, am I right? I don't think there is too much secrecy about what qualities teams rate, definitely players though

Dally was a very good, but limited talent wise, VFL footballer. He's also been a tough coach, a c@nt of a cricketer on the field, but a very good player, and a tight arse. However he's a good judge of talent and has done well. He's he likes players like that. The talented princesses can heck off in his book.

I don't care what name we draft but of we do select anyone under 6 foot 4 this yeR the whole recruiting department need to be sacked

No more best available cr@p

Hawthorn for draft that way they take to what they need and that seems to work for them

i do get your viewpoint...our mids aren't getting reward for effort because there isn't a key forward to capitilise on their work, so they don't back them selves in to make a play, and their development is reduced.

but would you really rather a liam jones than a scott pendlebury based on needs?

i'd select best available talent with first rounder (favouring KPPs over mids if talent is approximate), and then become more needs based through the draft.

He's not against smalls (Honeychurch/Hrovat etc) BUT they either have to be a bargain or a no brainer. If he's got a 6'4" and a 6' player in front oh I'm who are similar, he'll take the bigger one every time, as long as the kid in question is ruthless.

Hawthorn trade based on needs
and actually pick best available, that is at least what I've observed
and always drafting players that are known for been good kicks and recently, having big tanks

so...

If we can't get one of Wright, McCartin, Lever or McKenzie then I'm all for best available. Ayce Cordy and Liam Jones are over 6 foot 4. If we had our time again I wouldn't take them.

Taking a player purely on the basis of their height is too big a risk.

Yes mate I would

We need to take chances now

Our mid stocks are looking good but without KPS we will go backwards so let's go full out for one year and get as any as possible in.

Look at it this way if we take 5 or 6 we may get talls we may get 2 that make it

Take 2 or 3 we will get 0 or 1 that's makes it.

Unless we trade up for existing players that we know what we are getting.

Seriously what good is ANOTHER player under 5 foot 10 to us??

I don't care how good they are no team can have as many as we have and make it work so why bother taking them even if they are apparently best available?

"Best available" is an excuse and if you recall Bontempelli was not even in most other teams top 10 so was he really the next best available ?? It's all assumption so make a big one not a little one

We have more problems than the obvious lack of KPP for **** sake there's a reason we are a team in the bottom five greater than just THAT.

Yep but without KPS you can't succeed so fix the biggest issue and the others will fall into place

If we don't get 2 KPS ready to play next year in this off season we will have a worse year next year than this

And of course sacking the coach would automatically mean a better year next year

West Coast and Collingwood were mad into Bontempelli and Collingwood had two top 10 picks
and 3 teams went before us, so
:p

So 3 teams out of 18 rated him like us?

Wow that's so many that thought he was best available

So :)

He was considered more of a high risk high reward pick than the others around that mark. So far I'm happy we had the guts to take the risk.

**** off if you want to talk about sacking everybody at the club because of a ****** up method of drafting that was done years ago during the Eade years that has sent us down the ladder so far.

You cannot get anywhere without good drafts and you can't have good drafts by drafting someone just because they are tall regardless of ability it is failed logic and something I would be very disappointed with. You go with the tall if their ability is equal to the next player but if they are not then you go with the other player. It will happen this year that the talls will be best in the First and maybe second rounds of this draft then the players that are quick smalls (tallest around 184cm) are miles ahead of the talls available in the third and fourth rounds. I'd rather rookie a few talls than **** up the method of drafting by taking too many talls, a method may I add that has worked since the Macrae/Stringer draft just because of being worried about one area of weakness.

Saw that on Sunday, I thought Morris spoke exceptionally well and provided more interesting talking points than the show's hosts.

McKenzie wasn't giving much away, haha.

Yes and that's why we are shit at draft time and have been for years

And I can say what ever I want mate it's a forum

Don't like it block me pretty simple

Dalrymple been recruiting manager since 2010 and he hasn't brought one decent KP to the club in that time
NOT ONE

so...
A decade ago Hawthorn came up with a plan to trade out Jon Hay and Nathan Thompson and load up at the draft. They also somehow managed to get a 1st rounder out of Port for Nathan Lonie (go figure).

In a 4 year window they wanted a dozen picks before pick 25.

They specifically wanted:
4 KPP
2 Ruckmen
1 HB who could kick
2 inside mid
2 outside mids
1 small forward

They took:
Franklin, Roughead, Thorp & Dowler
Renouf & Bailey
Birchall
Lewis & Tuck (F/S)
Ellis & Muston
Rioli

Half of the guys they chose were busts but it still worked out well enough.

Because it hasn't been part of the plan. Mids first, the harder the better, then the back line then the forward line. We are 3 years into a 7 year plan. Gold Coast are 6 years in and haven't played a final. GWS are 4-5 years in and not close to finals yet. IT TAKES TIME. We are in that group of clubs because, quite simply, we don't have any A Graders over the age of 23 other than "a fit" Griffen. We have star kids, we have some pretty good players over 30 and bugger all in the Premiership age of 25-29. We have to, as a group, be prepared to stay this course. We have to give those who make the decisions the chance to see out this journey, otherwise we will always be mediocre. Let's give ourselves the chance to be something great. The club has never pared back the list to this degree. It's exciting.

No pan we just see it dufferently mate

The people guiding this plan are no good and regardless if they gather a list they are incapable of taking it anywhere

Where you see excitement I see more and more wasted years and wasted careers and quite frankly I'm sick to death of waiting and atepting to be positive

We are going nowhere fast under this coach and it really frustrates me that people actually think we are coz the evidence is clear we are not and won't regardless of twisted stats and blah blah

All I want is our club to stop being a joke and irrelevant and I while the monkeys run the zoo we are in for more pain

Frankly, I think it's pretty impressive that the monkeys are running a zoo seeing as they haven't yet figured out how to extract fruit from blocks of ice ;)
