I'm a fan. I wanted to downgrade our pick to that range of 10 - 18 to grab Goddard + someone else, but that doesn't look like it's going to happen. Unless there's another way we can get our hands on a pick in that range?

I can understand that thinking, wanting to get a pick in that range to nab him but I'd much rather roll the dice with Wright at pick 5 and potentially miss out on Goddard than get guarantee ourselves Goddard but rule out Wright. If that makes sense. We really can't afford to let that opportunity slide.

I don't think Goddard will ever be a superstar, but he is the kind of player that does everything well enough. The thing I really like about him is that he has the right amount of c*** in his game that will allow him to make it as a long-term AFL footballer.

Trade Cooney + pick 26 to Hawks for pick 18.

Pick 5 - Wright
Pick 18 - Goddard
Pick 25 - Menadue
Pick 42 - Cordy
Pick 60 - Daniel McKenzie

Still have the Jones /Tutt picks to trade for some mature age talent.

Dream draft? :)

Would take an almighty effort, though.

True. As much as I like Goddard, I wouldn't do it because it would, as you say, take an almighty effort. But before we write it off, let's wait to see what transpires during the trade period - you never know what opportunity may drop into our lap.

Fair call. A good key forward is more important to us.

Definitely agree with the last line. Like you said, he probably won't be a superstar, but he's got the right level of aggression and skill set to get there. Where as Durdin could be a superstar, but I'm not so sure about him.

Out of interest. If Durdin, Petracca, Brayshaw and Wright were all gone, who would you take?

Nice.

Yep, would definitely do that.

This exactly why I suggested we give Cooney a mutual hug and ask if Hawthorn want to do that scenario. I'd love Goddard even though I think he go three or four picks beforehand. Still, there's plenty to work with at that exchange/upgrade.

I don't know anything of Dan McKenzie. What's his transcript?

Everyone loves Cooney mate, but he has little more than 12 - 18 months left to give.

So what
You will never get what he is worth to us
And unless he asks us to go - we show him the respect and loyalty he has shown the club
This is a non negotiable foundation which shows the young guns we have that the club possess the right values and will look after them if they give their all to it.

McCartin. But I will assume you meant to include him in that bunch, in which case it would be Jake Lever or Jayden Laverde who I really rate as a footballer. I'm also a fan of Jordan De Goey and intrigued by Tom Lamb (who is either going to be a very good footballer or a very average footballer).

I think we hang around for the unofficial ones post combine. One on one in the car park and sledging are two we've taken an interest in recently....
I believe Honeychurch holds the combine record.

That's right, unless he asks to go, which he may well want to for one last chance at a premiership. So it's okay for Higgins to **** off, but it's not okay for the club to mutually agree with a player to seek a trade? Lake did it, Higgins has done, if Cooney wanted it I'm sure the club would see the bigger picture which many supporters fail to see.

What about if we no we are not getting Wright or McCardin massive gamble but trade our pick 6 for 2 picks say 12-16 some how then take a Duggan and a Goddard instead of a Lavede???

Oops, I meant to put in McCartin instead of Durdin.

The hard part is that as watchers of the game, we only know what we see. We don't get to sit in the interviews with players and visit their family homes and get a gauge on who they are, what makes them tick, how they will fit into the group etc.

It's very easy to sit here and say that McCartin, Brayshaw, Wright, Lever etc are the best players on talent, but they could all be really shit blokes and the club could be interested in none. As soon as Bonts sat his first interview after last year's draft you could see exactly why the club 'reached' for him.

In saying that, I can't really see the club springing too much of a surprise with pick 5. The most interesting picks are always in the second round. Very interested to see what Dalrymple has up his sleave. If he is true to form, probably going to be some Victorian lads plying their trade in the TAC Cup coming our way.

I agree. The problem is, does he still have the fire in him?
He will sometimes show what he is still capable of, but a lot of the time he is a one way runner. Really frustrating to watch. In a winning team you probably wouldn't even notice it, but in the current Bulldogs line-up it is noticeable.
Griffin worked on his two way play. It seems Cooney either just doesn't want to or has been instructed not to (which I really doubt).

I agree, with both your points there, I think De Goey will be a very good player. Tom Lamb in reference to total football above me and not being involved in interviews, when I spoke to someone who has worked with him at Vic Country they were skeptical about whether or not he will make it. Also from what he said I don't think he would pass the no dickheads test.
