I've only scanned a few (10+) pages on this thread today but I noticed some posters putting up Cam McCarthy and Tom Boyd in the Griffen deal.

Impossible.

Any young player drafted has to serve the compulsory 2 years AFL draft contact. So it would be impossible for GWS to off load them. Just like Collingwood would NOT be able to get Aish even if he wanted to.

James Stewart yes, but not anyone kid drafted in 2013.
That is interesting

I didn't know that, would be interested in Stewart coming to us though

if only to bug Collingwood when he would be our star KPP (I can dream )

So if we get 4, 19 and a player from GWS for Griff then with the ten possible main list changes we could go something along the lines of:

4: Wright (203cm KPP)
6: Lever (194cm KPD)
19: Duggan (183cm mid)
26: Menadue (188cm mid)
27: R McKenzie (196cm KPF)
44: McLean (179cm fwd/mid)
45 (jones trade): D. McKenzie (185cm athletic hbf)
Zaine Cordy (192cm KPD)
Jong upgrade
+ GWS Player (KPP please)

Don't know what we'll be able to get for Cooney probably just a pick upgrade or a late pick that would be of little use.

Rookie picks: Marcon (linked to by Kelvin31), Kovacevic, a KPD and Foster.

Dannnnnnnnnn any KPD that you think will be available as rookies we'd be interested in?

My understanding is that Melbourne would prefer Wright to McCartin as complements Hogan more effectively. So I'm kind of assuming:

1 - Petracca
2 - Brayshaw
3 - Wright
4 - McCartin

Hoping then Lever slides to us at 6.

If we are really keen on Wright then possibly (assuming Melb get Pick 12 from Tiges, and we get 7) is to offer 4 and 7 for 12 and 3?? Not sure...lot better experts than me here.

Strange this has never been posted so far, not even by Lion supporters..

If it meant getting Macartin to keep pick 7 instead of 13 id take Macartin. just watched his highlights and better then i though, but i hear the dogs are really into Wright.

Yeah

I am wondering since we'll have the two picks there, if we don't use them in any trades or for pick upgrades
if he would be a player worth looking at, I understand what you mean by nothing special but think there could be a role for him definitely
I think he is also a pretty good kick under a lot of pressure as well

If we ended up with 4 and 19, we'd have 4, 6, 19, 26, 27

That is a lot of new faces, what would be your preferences at each pick for now?
Hypothetically, something like this would be okay in my mind:
4: Peter Wright
6: Jake Lever
19: Caleb Marchbank/Oscar McDonald
26: Connor Menadue
27: Reece McKenzie
Very tall heavy but it's something I'd be more than prepared to do, with later picks/rookie selections used to bolster our midfield depth and add some smaller needs (eg. small defender, natural small forward, developing ruck).

Not sure to be honest. McGovern has the skill set to play defense imo, but apart from ruckmen or very raw, high upside guys, I don't see a lot of point in selecting key position players in the rookie draft.

Yeah, I thought something like that (tall heavy) might get a lot of supporters excited

not sure what midfielders will be available to us later, personally I am hoping that Garlett would be one of these
maybe even McLean, who I'll admit I haven't watched incredibly closely

Only mid i want is Daniels, apart from that i am OK with tall's for all. keep in mind the father sons coming up that will add to our already good midfield depth

Seen him do the trick challenge, thought Duggan was better
Really want us to get our hands on a pick around 10-15 and pick up Jordan De Goey, has a heap of talent. Bartel-esq.

I think they're both good

Duggan the better kick on the outside, De Goey better kick inside traffic

Hey KM, If Collingwood were to get pick 5 from Brisbane as part of the trade for Beams who do you see us using that pick on?
Do you think we will go after another key position player in someone like Wright even though we're drafting Moore with pick 9?
Collingwood have shutdown talks so a Beams move looks unlikely with Brisbane proving a point to their existing players that they will stay loyal to them no matter what due to what happened last year and Collingwood not making the move because pick 5 isn't of any usefulness and given the recent heavy recruiting of early draft talent these past few years and all 2000+ games of experience lost these past couple of seasons Collingwood are looking to add established players rather than further picks.

There are no players who suit Collingwood well at 5 and it would be logical if the club did go down that route to move the pick for an experienced player. If the pick is added and retained I see Collingwood most likely going small and for an injection or pace or some outside ability. Wright I don't see Collingwood being keen on as someone who struggled during the finals and really struggled to win the 1v1 contests. Jake Lever if available given his leadership qualities may appeal depending on whether the club like him over the current key defence stocks, but given the depth of Collingwood's key defence stocks that would be a puzzling selection. Weller/Pickett/Laverde are the three more likely. Put me on the spot and I'd say Collingwood go with Weller given he has a good mix of pace/skill and some versatility and probably the more immediate game of those guys. But it's really the wrong selection for the wrong club at that point for there to be a clear guy they should at that point be taking.

In that case I'd go with taking a lot of KPP early in this draft maybe take an outside type like Maishman as a rookie in the place of a KPP.

Does anyone think that, realistically, Cordy could come in and play in defence next year ala KK at the Suns this year?

Toby McLean (Oakleigh Chargers)
Born 31.1.1996, 179cm, 70kg

AFL biography: Small forward/midfielder with an exceptional natural leap and is crafty around goals. Agile and a prolific ball winner, he has averaged 21.9 disposal and kicked 29 goals in an outstanding first year in the TAC Cup. His 'X' factor is his overhead making for his size.

Mark Smart, Oakleigh Chargers: "Toby deserves a lot of credit for his commitment and perseverance. He wasn't on a list at the start of the year after he got cut from Dandenong so he came into our group where he didn't know anyone and kept chasing his dream. He can take some high-flying marks and his game awareness is a big strength, he knows when the ball's coming into his area and where his opponent is, so he's two steps ahead of the game all the time. His work in traffic and decision making is really good and he's really been able to handle everything that's been thrown at him in terms of playing as a medium forward and graduating into the midfield. He's had an outstanding year, he can do some really special things when it's needed and I wasn't here when Robbie Gray was around but he's the one a lot of people have compared him to."

Don't talk him up too much Smart I want him at our third rounder :(

Is laverde a possible answer to our running half back woes or do draft watchers see him moving into the midfield at afl level? Love the size, speed and attacking mindset.

Laverde can be anything except a backline player, I see him as a third tall forward or wingman next Year, for those of you who watched VFl Grand Final think of him as Sicily (box hill) with just a little more flair.

Dan(n) whats your take on Petracca - some of the hype is pretty wild. If there was some way to get #1 and #4, would you be temped to take Petracca at #1, knowing in all probability that one of Wright/Mcartin is almost certain to be there at #4 anyway?

This is something I've been thinking about as well. WOuld be good to hear people's opinions on it. For me, if we trade up to pick 1, I hope it's so that we can take Petracca and not one of McCartin/Wright even though they represent some needs. I think with pick 1, you should be going for the best player and I think Petracca is the best guy. I also think that despite his success this year, he still has a lot to improve as a midfielder because he is so new to the position.

Any remaining interest in Harrison Wigg from SA. Has good skills, but a lack of accountability could mean he is Sam Colquhoun 2.0. Still should have a look at our 3rd but I'm sure those Christian Howard types have scared us off.

Interested in hearing Dan's response to this. I think from memory ones of the guys commentating the U18 GF said he was the standout of the last 5 drafts, which I thought was crazy given the quality in recent years.
