Yes he looks very promising. Attacks the ball strongly, good overhead mark for a 6 footer, and runs strongly, a bit lightly built at this stage. Ranked 15 - 50 in the AFL Draft Hub. Out of the 2 you suggested I'd prefer him but who knows what the recruiters are thinking. I'm glad I haven't got the job.
Hoping Dan is there at 39 and we grab him. Has to work on a few small aspects to his game, think B Grade dependable is his limit, so not worth a pick before 30.

Serious de ja vu right now!

Third time lucky right? :p

True. The one thing that makes it seem like less of a worry is that the kid himself, although touted as a good prospect for the draft two years running decided not to enter the draft because he himself didn't think he was ready.

Good chance he at least has a good head on his shoulders and knows he has to work in order to make it.

My mate and I watched 22 hours off footage from this years draft crop last weekend his an x Stingrays coach and I live football..
Best Available at our picks are...
1.Jackson Nelson-the most underrated player in this draft and I believe should be a top 10 pick best disposal in this draft
2.Connor Menadue -upside is amazing parents are tall and he will fill out speed to burn
3.McKenzie- the back flank version kid could be anything again pace and skill
4.Maynard-his god poise strength and class could play anywhere
5.Gore-The danger in this draft kicks the ball 60 Meter's strong and I think will play 200 games
6.Keitel-I think he will keep growing end up 197 like his dad moves like a hforward and could turn into a key CHB

Trying to take away the guess work but I feel picking up Nelson would be like getting our pick 6 back.....

Also best Ruckman would be to pick up Read from Adelaide pick him up first in rookie

Picks 26&27 Brayden Maynard, Connor Blakely,or Oscar McDonald

Pick 39 Nathan Drummond, Dean Gore,or Lukas Webb

Picks 45&46 Daniel MCKenzie,Matthew Goodyear,Tom Wilkinson
or Sean McLaren

Lots of pace and skill combined with two options for KPD
who in all honesty are nothing special yet.

Maynard will go around 15-20.

I'll be very surprised if he falls to our pick.
There are many players rated 15-20 Maynard may fall because of his
lack of endurance.I think Blakely goes before Maynard the top 25
players are pretty clear cut,Moore 9 Heeney 18 and Steele 24 is all
i know for sure.

He is on many clubs radars, imo Essendon/Carlton should be seriously looking at him

If Nelson is that good, we will have to pick him before Geelong (falcons kid)

Do you think they upgraded to pick#10 for him?

sounds like Macca would have loved this guy...

Pick 31: Hawthorn – Jackson Nelson

Position: Defender/midfielder
Height: 187 cm, Weight: 80 kg, DOB: 15/03/1996
Club: Geelong Falcons
Projected draft range: 12-35
Player comparison: Nick Vlaustin

Best described as a rudder in defence, Jackson Nelson is a steely defender-cum-midfielder who relishes the hard side of the game. Not too dissimilar to Richmond’s Nick Vlastuin in his attack on the ball and the man, Nelson is a tackling machine who rates among the best for marks, contested possessions and pressure acts. On top of this, Nelson also has enough polish on the outside to operate at an average of 70 per cent disposal efficiency. Rated incredibly highly at the Geelong Falcons, Nelson doesn’t have romantic traits like a Paul Ahern or Jayden Laverde, but he is just as effective if not more well-rounded, doing so without fuss. Averaging 22 high-quality disposals in the TAC Cup, Nelson’s best traits include his work rate, his defensive pressure, repeat efforts, gut running and most obviously his tackling, at an average of 6.2 per game for the Falcons.

I agree with you inyourfacedunk and I think he should be looked at seriously. I remember a similar situation a few years back when we had the chance to recruit a player from the SANFL called Paul Puopolo who trained with the Bulldogs but was rejected and look what he has done at Hawthorn. We dont want another one to slip through our fingers.

I always rated Nelson, big tall player with a good kick that just isn't as flashy as other players
so we go for a number of rebounding defenders at the draft
surely we strike gold with one right?....

outsidemidfielders, key defenders & rebounders oh my

I haven't seen the kid play so admittedly i'm just going off highlights & what has been said about him, but to me shutting down TAC cup forwards when you haven't really got any other strings to your bow isn't the best resume.

If you've seen a different side of Oscar or have any other input I'd be interested to hear it.

I just think there are enough talented kids in the draft to push McDonald back to 39

100% agree.
I personally know a couple of recruiters and a list manager. None I have spoken to rated McDonald in the top 50.
Therefore Id be taking on a punt of him slipping to 39, and if he goes before then he goes.
Mckenzie or Mcdonald to be there at 39 IMO.

The description posted about Glenn is near identical to the fuller description - hence the dejavu comments.

We dont have a great recent history of left footed SA half backs either

Really warming to gore the more I hear about him. If he can build his tank, he sounds like he offers our midfield a point of difference. Power, clean hands, penetrating kick. Nice mix.

Got to say, don't look at the youngsters, but if we are sticking to the plan of drafting at least one kid who can be ready next year then Gore seems to fit the bill. As you say adds a point of difference going on reports, Knightmare's summary below

26. Dean Gore (SA – Mid) Height: 183cm, Weight: 86kg, DOB: 26/06/1996
Recruited from: Sturt
Draft range: 20-60Best position/role: Midfield – on the ball.
Strengths: Contested ball winning ability – Gore is a strong contested ball winner and attacks the ball at pace, more often than not coming out with it. He is strong over the ball and is clean with his pickups off the deck and can take it off the deck on the move. His contested ball winning numbers were strong both through the U18 Championships and at SANFL League level.
Strength and power – Gore has a strong body and uses it to his advantage. He seemingly never goes to ground. He uses his strength over the ball to firstly win the contested ball but then can also bully his way through the contest with his forward momentum. He hits the contest at pace and has the strength and low centre of gravity to stand up in the tackle and the forward momentum to keep moving forward with the ball even through the tackle, such is his strength through the hips or get a clean handball off to a target. He will bury guys in his tackles and do some real damage when he takes guys to ground. He has the strength in the 1v1 contest to beat his guy.
Pace and endurance - Gore also for such a big bodied midfielder has some explosiveness, really in traffic almost always moving at full pace and going on 10m to 15m high speed bursts, exploding through the contest. He seems to have very good pace over 20m and also overs the ground well and has good endurance which is pleasing for a big bodied midfielder.
Tackling – Gore has excellent tackle numbers but in addition to that he also attacks the man with real ferocity really burying guys in his tackles and knocking the stuffing out of them making it a real strength of his game.
Skillset – Gore has a very good skillset by position. He has a long 55m kick on him and can finish on goal from range. To a target Gore is very good over short and medium distances and can when he has time and space lower his eyes but over long distances he has shown a tendency too often to blast away to a contest. By hand Gore is reliable in finding his targets consistently and in delivering cleanly.
Marking ability – Gore is a strong mark overhead and has a real strength of hands overhead. He can take marks on the lead and is also a strong mark 1v1 and can out-body his opponent in the contest for the mark.
Versatility – Gore while a midfielder first can also play in the front half and present as a marking target, provide some tackling pressure and hit forward 50 targets or hit the scoreboard. It is also not out of the question that he could as required play in the back half as he has a strong body but then also athletically and from a skill standpoint is more than good enough to make that transition into the back half if required. Weaknesses:Kicking under pressure - Under pressure in the contest by foot he can rush it onto his boot and kick it forward without look more than he perhaps needs to when he stands up so strongly though the tackles of opposition players.
Ability to accumulate outside – At this stage Gore as with most inside players at this stage does not find much ball outside the contest and still needs to learn where to run outside the contest to get more involved in general play.
Ability to do damage outside – Gore while quick inside the contest is not a threat at this stage to break the lines on the outside or break games open with his kicking or do anything game changing outside the contest. What I expect will improve:I expect Gore to continue to improve his inside game and as he progresses, to become more of a weapon in the front half as well as also learn how to find more ball outside the contest.
Who he can become?I see Gore developing into someone similar to Josh Caddy as that similar big bodied midfielder who can at times rotate forward.
When will he be ready to play?Gore has the ability to play as soon as season one and fit in at AFL level given his proven performance at SANFL League level.
How to best utilise him?Through the midfield on the ball with occasional stints in the front half.
Interpretation of his numbers:Numbers through the U18 Championships were strong collecting excellent contested ball numbers and tackle numbers. He has also in his play at SANFL League level showed that he can play and play well against the older bodies collecting strong numbers and also with strong contested ball numbers, strong clearance numbers, excellent marking numbers, a very good disposal efficiency with both his work by hand and foot good, as well as the ability to hit the scoreboard most games. Going off his play at SANFL League level Gore is capable of playing in season one.

He is on many clubs radars, imo Essendon/Carlton should be seriously looking at him
I agree he is a brute and has a great upside once he builds his tank,
but i see Nakia Cockatoo and Connor Menadue as the primary
bolters of this draft leaving the players who are less complete
available at our picks well hopefully.

If Gore could learn to use his kick more effectively more often

could see him been able to play as a small defender
same with Maynard

Most clubs have spoken to Goodyear , with the coasters hot on his trail.

You're playing with fire man. Finger.....poised.......over........"ignore"..........button. :)

My dream draft at the moment looks like:
26: N. Cockatoo - 188cm MID - NT Thunder, NT.
27: C. Menadue - 188cm MID - Western Jets, VIC.
39: T. Keitel - 194cm FWD - East Perth, WA.
45: D. Howe - 191cm UTL - Murry Bushrangers, VIC.
46: D. Nielson - 193cm DEF - Eastern Rangers, VIC.
64: Z. Cordy - 193cm DEF - Geelong Falcons, VIC.

This will give us a good spread in all areas and allot of potential.
Definitely should rookie a developing RUCK as well, keen on Billy Frampton from South Fremantle personally.

Unlikely as it may I think every western bulldog fan would jump straight into the yarra with pure joy if this were to occur.

it'd be amazing for Cockatoo if he goes high based off one game & his combine results

I'd be hoping for Cockatoo & Menadue as well

would love if we ended up with either

Dean Gore seems like he could be around that range, improves his kicking & there is suddenly a lot to like

I'd hope for something like
-Menadue/Maynard -Gore/Cockatoo -McDonald/Keitel in the second round
& McLaren & Anderson in the third :p

that is just preference though :)
