probably not, they wouldn't waste a spot and money on a player out of sheer spite

well, no professional team would do that

It's GWS we are talking about though, and he looks a decent rookie prospect.

They do always seem hell bent on picking up talls.

Do those in the know reckon DVR will be available at 46? His left foot looks lethal and he has enough pace to get the time and space to use it.
I think he's a good chance to slide. I just can't see dalrymple taking him though to be honest

??? Hes shown repeatedly to be seduced by beautiful one-sided left foot kicks.

Lets hope he has learned the lesson - you are only as good a kick as you can kick under pressure.

Where do you happen to rate Sean McLaren at this stage?

the closest players to a sure thing at AFL level are players with a strong contested game

Plough done a percentage earlier in the year of players most likely to succeed at AFL level
and KPPs were last & inside midfielders were way ahead at first
I think possibly over 50%

so if our recruiters decide to take a Neal-Bullen or Gore at one of our earliest picks, I won't be groaning any going
another inside midfielder :p
I do like McLaren but he's more likely a rookie pick for mine.

I don't disagree with your current assessment of Keitel, Dan, but the sum of a players' current output, characteristics and abilities don't necessarily add to the whole in the future as I'm sure you'd agree. I think he has considerable upside. What draft range do you think is fair for him? I believe anywhere between 35 and 50. Considering we have 3 picks in that range i wouldn't be unhappy taking him with any of them.
I think your range is pretty much spot on. He's a good enough prospect to be drafted in that range - I'm just not sure he makes it, personally.

I think DVR will be available at our first rookie pick to be honest. I'm not sure I'd take him in the main draft.

Western Bulldogs BigFooty Phantom Draft wrap:
Pick #26: Jarrod Garlett
Pick #27: Oscar McDonald
Pick #39: Brayden Maynard
Pick #45: Toby McLean
Pick #46: Dan Howe

Write-ups to come in the next couple of days.

That would be a pretty good draft for us.

Personally, I would have gone Keitel and Nelson rather than McDonald and McLean but a good draft none-the-less. Maynard at 39 would be great.

What it does show is that there will still be some pretty decent players available at 26 & 27.

So if we take 5 picks one more has to go - is the consensus it is Pearce?

We could offer Fuller a rookie place rather than a spot on the main list - we still have to honor the second year of his contract financially whether he is on our main list, the rookie list or no list at all.

Now that Tutt is gone, do we still need to delist someone?

Would we take Reece McKenzie if he is available at our pick?

Hard to pass him, although I'm a bit worried that he's too similar a player to both Boyd and big Red. Need an athetic second tall to play under Boyd if you ask me, not another crash and bash type.

with our first 2 picks in 26 and 27, I hope Darlymple selects best available becauce this draft seems to bat real deep, plenty players could go from anywhere between pick 10 and 40.

The rest of our picks I hope we land atleast 1 KPF and 1 decent swingman because ither than Murphy we really dont have anyone who can get the job done done at either end.

Not bad overall haven't seen mcdoanld or Howe so would take kitel over McDonald

Random question, could Bonts be that man in a few seasons time....?

I'm reluctant to pigeonhole Bontempelli - I like the early signs he's shown as a forward, but without being overly quick, he's got that innate ability to break open a stoppage and create scoring opportunities from the midfield.

Unless he really emerges as a star in any particular discipline, I think he'll end up with licence to essentially do as he sees fit (while still adhering to team defensive principles and structures). He'll always be in the action.

On the topic of the draft, I'd probably pass on McKenzie, but I'll admit I don't like his attitude. He's talented, big and agile, but I just have doubts over his work rate and application. Should they be available, I like Menadue and McDonald. Maybe DVR, but I'm not as sure about him - to me, it'd feel like a bit of a gamble at 26/27. I'd be comfortable selecting him if available at 39, though.

Can someone fill me in on a few of the WA prospects - Jarrod Garlett, Clem Smith etc?

Dannnnnnnnnn regarding Maynard, what do you believe would be the position he'd play in our senior side?

he is a good height to be able to play multiple roles and I've been wondering where he'd be used

Not a huge amount of interest but we do intend to rookie him if he's available-but they won't lose sleep if he gets picked up.
