What're your concerns with his kicking? He went at around 80% in the Champs and I don't really see much wrong with his kicking. He's a pretty clean ball-user from my perspective.Yeah, I thought VW might go earlier
and think he'd be a good pick for us, if he could clean up his kicking

Fair enough. I think he can loop it a little bit but it's not a real problem; his kicks hit the target much, much more often than not.He isn't the most penetrating kick, the ball hangs in the air a while
I've seen him completely shank it a few times
but his decision making is probably what sets him apart from other players
He won't look impressive on a highlights video; he's somebody you need to watch live to appreciate. He's a really, really hard worker who can look laconic at times but just gets the job done and is comfortable in pretty much any role on the field. He's played as a deep forward target, a high half-forward, through the middle, at full-back, at CHB and as a rebounding defender at different stages this year. Coach's pet.Do we really need another 190cm defensive utility?? Seems kinda meh to me.
And forgive the prejudice, but melbourne grammar boys?? Gimme a battler from the burbs any day.
We're drafting Zaine Cordy though, its an interesting type of player to draft two of in one draft.Fair enough. I think he can loop it a little bit but it's not a real problem; his kicks hit the target much, much more often than not.

I don't really think we have many 190cm defensive utilities in the first place either to be honest...Morris aside, Wood is really the only one coming to mind apart from perhaps Jong (but that's a stretch). He's not my first choice but I don't mind him.
Pretty different players though, to me. Dalrymple sees Cordy as a genuine KPD whereas V-W is more of a utility that gets moved around to deal with the demands of the game. Cordy thrives on the contests whereas V-W is capable in them but prefers to play off his man a little and balance offense with defense a little moreso than Zaine does. We're drafting Zaine Cordy though, its an interesting type of player to draft two of in one draft.
It's the fact he's a key forward a farther son and if he is a late bloomer like his old man it will blow this forum up like nothing has done before.
Are you saying he has no chance at all to play at AFL level at all .
For me i would have taken the chance last year on the rookie list and under our system see what he could do at Footscray.
26 Menadue
27 Blakely
39 McDonald
Would be wrapped if we ended up with those 3 blokes all have big futures ahead of them and just image what menadue can do if he has a big pre-season and add to that light frame there's heaps of improvement inside that boy!
Difference is that Boomer is super quick and kicks goals. Different player, Libba was built for the 80s and 90s not for today, his tackling was absolutely elite as was his determination and heart size, but his kicking was poor and he wasn't overly quick. Boomer has been quick, elite kick and kicks goals.Explain Boomer. Plays most of his football under a roof at Etihad, but is still an immense player. I feel like if there's a super talented kid who is short, we may as well role the dice with a late pick if he's still around. Or perhaps a rookie spot. Rookie is probably safest.
I read Knightmare's draft analysis on a lot of the expected draft prospects. Maynard was one that interested me as I remember his dad Rodney playing when the Crows first started. Knightmare has been a little harsh on him, saying he needs a lot of work on endurance, but other facets also.He has a good burst of speed, ran under 3 seconds at the combine over 20m and has good agility. He does need to improve his endurance a bit. I'm warming to him, he would offer us a lot of value in a few different parts of the ground.
should have seen his posts on Keitel at the start of the year vs the ones after the ChampsI read Knightmare's draft analysis on a lot of the expected draft prospects. I guess what he wrote put me off quite a bit. I will be interested where he goes.
It's interesting that most draft analysts now have 2 Metre Peter dropping down the list a bit. Suggesting he may get as far as Geelongs pick.
I wonder if after all the early hullaballoo whether or not we would have pulled the trigger on him. No doubt he would have been available at 6, whether that was paying "overs" is now debatable.
It shows one thing, that ruckmen are not rated highly at all any more. Even if they have a bit of a forward skill also.
Does anyone think maybe we have dodged a bullet? Hoping also that Boyd steps up to show his projected potential.
Ahhhh, so that is where you got the info to skewer Keitel. What it boils down to is this, it doesn't matter what you or I think. It is what Dalrymple and JMac think. I have said all along I am no draft expert and don't pretend to be. I think I know the type of players we require, which are many. But generally I figure you have to have faith in your recruitment team, after all they should know better than all of us.should have seen his posts on Keitel at the start of the year vs the ones after the Champs

Whoever they choose need to be supported by all of us, then after a good amount of viewing a solid opinion can be made. There are bound to be drifters and bolters, I remember when we drafted Hrovat, I was disappointed we didn't pick up Membrey because I figured we were desperate for a forward, no matter the size. I am glad we got Hrovat now instead of Membrey. But that taught me a lesson, let the recruiters worry about the recruiting.
and Keitel was one of my favourite players of the Champs hahahIf dalrymple thinks he's best available, I'm all for him pulling the trigger. I wouldn't know the kid from a bar of soap. Just commenting more broadly on lack of need for another 190cm, 3rd tall type and my distaste for all things melbourne grammarFair enough. If you had said Xavier Ellis, however, you may have had a pointHa. Yeah I know man. Just a personal vendetta against Melbs grammar.
