Pretty different players though, to me. Dalrymple sees Cordy as a genuine KPD whereas V-W is more of a utility that gets moved around to deal with the demands of the game. Cordy thrives on the contests whereas V-W is capable in them but prefers to play off his man a little and balance offense with defense a little moreso than Zaine does.

V-w plays in the same sort of vein as Andrew Mackie would you say Dan ?

I also noted he come 9th in the draft combine kicking test. 24/30 from memory
So he may kick loopers but seems to hit the target more often than not.

If dalrymple thinks he's best available, I'm all for him pulling the trigger. I wouldn't know the kid from a bar of soap. Just commenting more broadly on lack of need for another 190cm, 3rd tall type and my distaste for all things melbourne grammar :). Kid could be a star for all I know.

I blame Jack Watts
Kids in the private school system been tarnished with a black brush.

OK, 2 weeks out, here's my "preferred draft" for us. Again, based on the opinions of industry guys that I respect and trust and where I see our list.

Pick 26 - Dean Gore
Pick 27 - Oscar McDonald
Pick 39 - Tyler Keitel
Pick 45 - Josh Glenn
Pick 46 - Jackson Nelson

Comments
If we think either Gore or McDonald will be there at 39, we take Menadue at 27. But Id rather take Gore/Mcdonald early rather than roll the dice and miss out on either of them.

Gore reminds me a great deal of Griffen. He complements our tough, but pedestrian midfield very well.
McDonald is the shut down key defender we've lacked for sometime.
Keitel is just such a great kid (according to references), knows how to play the game, is still growing, has good instincts and excellent skills.
Glenn looks like Howard, is a south australian lefty like Howard and plays in the doggies colours. Yikes!!!! Im taking him anyway. Has high level talent according to my guys and is worth the risk at this point.
Nelson is dual sided, tough, athletic, versatile and has good size. Id take him as best available here.

Given that's 2 SA boys and a WA kid, it's highly highly unlikely we end up with a group like that, but it gives us a key defender, a key forward/defender, a power/burst mid and 2 ball users off half-back/midfield.

Like you I am a big Gore fan and I do not want to take the risk of him being taken before 39 so for me hes at either 26 or 27. I'l take McDonald but it only should be because Menadue is off the board, especially as we know have 6 190cm + KPD's on our list so the need has fallen somewhat. Still think we need another small forward apart from Dahlhaus we don't have a pure small forward and Toby McLean at 39 fits the bill so nicely. Instead of Keitel who I like mind you but rate as a mid 30's pick, I would use 45 on a project tall like a Cripps or Hammelman etc and 46 on one of Drummond/Glenn/Nelson.

My ideal draft is
26: Gore
27: Mendaue/McDonald
39: McLean/Keitel
45: Cripps/Hammelman
46: Drummond/Nelson.

What I like about Gore is that he provides our inside midfield with another facet. Found out that he got a 2.93 at the combine for 20m which is certainly very good, 14. 1 for beep test which isn't shabby but because he is already 183cm - 86kg he won't need to put on much if any more weight to have the physical nature required to play AFL level. So his tank is the one thing there is a great improvement left in his game. Also scored very well in the skills test which is always a plus.

Best case scenario I can see him become a lesser version of a Cotchin/O'meara because of the similar sizes explosive speed and ability to push forward. What he lacks compared to those two is the compose around the ball as well as an inability to accumulate much on the outside.

I think a fairer comparison would be that he is a one dimension Luke Shuey (without his outside running skills) but a better user of the ball as well as stronger or a Douglas type (Adelaide). Really Really hope we get him as his body size and speed will allow him to slot straight into a best 22 I feel. Certainly a replacement for Cooney if we ever needed one.

Menadue can play a similar role to a young Griff (albeit not a top 10 draft pick). Hope this is the game plan.

Darcy Lang & Karl Amon, I think were the players we were linked to last year
so I wonder if we'd want similar types this year... >.>
That almost reads like it could be a cut and paste from last years pre-draft Jack Macrae discussions.
last year? and Macrae is a player he has been compared to, but doesn't have the same vision in traffic
or the same flair Macrae had when he was drafted

Gore is an absolute gun, but surely he wont be there by pick 26? He's the type of player that everyone wants in their side.

Ive only seen him go before 26 in one phantom. KM is a big fan but many have him around 30 at this stage. I like you think hes better than that and severly underrated.

Gun is not the word I'd use for Gore, he's going to be a B grader at best IMO. He needs to do a lot of work on his outside game which is not good at this stage. A fair bit of his kicking is just kick and hope stuff. And while his inside game is certainly good, it's nothing outstanding to me. I'd be surprised if he's gone by 26/27 and I wouldn't be picking him unless he's available later on.

Remind me which poster had the rolled gold mail on our draft selections last year???

That might have been me.

Not as much mail this year from me yet but someone that hasn't been mentioned in dispatches is we are looking very closely at Marcon (Willi) late.

Drafting mail can come quite late (ie last day or 2 before the draft). Keep us posted Kel. Love ya work.
