WESTERN BULLDOGS

Draft selections:
26, 27, 39, 45, 46, 62 (committed to father-son pick Zaine Cordy), 82 (committed to promoting Jack Redpath), 100 (committed to promoting Lin Jong).

Defenders: Despite adding former Cat Joel Hamling as a delisted free agent, the Dogs could do with some more reinforcement to their key defensive stocks to assist an ageing Dale Morris and the developing Michael Talia and Fletcher Roberts. A running defender with sound foot skills wouldn't go astray either.

Midfielders: Some run and carry to compliment an impressive array of inside midfielders is a must, while a developing ruckman would also come in handy considering Will Minson is approaching 30.

Forwards: After acquiring a much-needed key forward in Tom Boyd in the trade period, the Dogs could do with a crumber as Luke Dahlhaus will push further up the ground in 2014.

In a nutshell: Run and spread from the contest is now the Dogs' biggest problem area and they should be able to address that with consecutive second round picks. - Ryan Davidson

Cal Twomey says: The Dogs have shown strong interest in Lukas Webb, and he would give their midfield some extra run and class. Connor Menadue is also in the mix as a run-and-carry half-back who pushes forward and kicks goals. If they look for taller defenders to strengthen that department, Ed Vickers-Willis and Oscar McDonald would be contenders.

Surely webb's available at 39 or 45/46?

Maybe, they give his draft range as 25-50, but that same range covers
a load of players. With the variety in the top twenty four or so picks
we should land two reasonable players with 26 and 27, the other
picks are a lottery as a lot of teams will be looking at the same
player types.

From the 'reel' it looks like he is more inside (and clever). He doesn't seem to have a penetrating kick or be overly quick. So outside run ... not from the video. To me he looks like a great get at 39, 45, 46 ... but not 26, 27.

I am a little late on this bloke , but I seen highlights of ed vickers willis and am impressed by what I seen

What do you guys think of what I call my 4 option draft strategy?

Picks 26&27
Best Available - Pick 2 of Menadue, Maynard, D. McKenzie, E. Vickers-Wallis

*I think 2 of these 4 are nearly certain to still be available and if they're not, it means a big slider has occurred and we pick them instead (Ellis, Marchbank, Garlett). More importantly, I believe they are no chance to make it to our later picks and this is why I would prioritize picking them here. I Had Blakely in this group instead of EVW but have changed my opinion on EVW in recent days with his versatility.

Picks 39,45&46
KPD - McDonald, Keitel, Neilson, Buykx-Smith
Elite Kicker - Gore, Viojo-Rainbow, Wigg, Nelson
Lively Small/Med Forward - McLean, Lonie, Langdon, Webb

*Again, I believe that at least 1 from each group will be available at our later picks. Some are very unlikely (the first 2 in every list) but would prefer to take a chance on them sliding than use 1 of our first 2 selections. Pick 39 would obviously be prioritized for what was classed as the best slider when it comes around (although we only have 3 live selections to worry about in between).

Rookie Spots
Round 1: Ruckman - Pittonet, Dear, Read, Hunter
Round 2: Mature Midfielder - Glenn, Marcon, Schroder, Cain
Round 3: KPF - Hammelman, Cripps, Eddy, Foster
Round 4: Daniel Pearce

*I don't believe its worth wasting a draft pick on a ruckman, particularly considering the quality available this year, but I would prioritise this as first selection as I think a lot of clubs will look to rookie list a ruckman. We should get in first to get the best available. We will have a plethora of young kids from this draft, so I think we should get someone who could play next year and/or will at least provide good depth. I don't like the options for KPF at our selections in the draft so would wait until the rookie list and one of the guys I have mentioned will still be available. I am guessing the Dogs aren't that keen on Foster or we would have at least father/son rookie selected him like Essendon has done with Long.

#Reece McKenzie is the only player that I would possibly change my strategy for. I like him a lot and would consider him at even our first selections instead of 1 of the other 4. I think the Saints will take him though.

It was in the vfl mate and I still don't think he would go top 30 in this draft , if you had of said he is a steal at pick 78 I would agree but he isn't the pick of the draft because we get boyd at pick 6

Listen champ we just picked up the best player outside the AFL for pick 78 Geelong and Carlton offered pickes for him!!

Be happy glass half full or Empty your choice

The 2 players in this draft with what i think is a (just dont know) factor.
Webb
McKenzie

Both if you talk to players they played with should be in top 10

But I so have a feeling about Menadue something about his sweet kicking timing.

Also everyone is looking at Broakhurst from WA -I pleaded last year for us to take him :-)
