What about Drummond at 45/46 to add some speed and running power? Anyone seen much of him?

I've seen a bit
thought he'd in on our radar if we wanted a ready player
played some VFL with Richmonds team
not a very good kick at the moment, but he can be super quick
& he likes to use it

Footskills a must. Pace a nice extra.

If we don't draft some ball users and good decision makers, what good is having the stud FF? We'll never be able to kick it to his advantage.

Is there anyone people are deadset against drafting? I'm pretty cool with all the guys around our picks.

Caleb Daniel - Too small, limited upside, can't see him making it
Tom Lamb - Talented yes, doesn't seem like he has the right mindset for AFL

Hogans much better, and more suited to CHF with his big tank and great field kicking IMO, while McCartins best suited to lead out of the goal square. As much as it would pain me to see it at Melbourne, that would be a fantastic combo.
I don't see the value in a lead out forward that isn't lights out better than the rest of the draft. I think structurally you are better off with a gun on baller than a lead out forward. A power forward is different and I would take one with pick 1, no problems.

Well....he's one I was looking at earlier and I don't know why but I went cold on him after watching his video. Having reviews it again now that you mentioned him I reckon we should concider.

From the AFL site "A standout at the NAB AFL Draft Combine, finishing first in the clean hands test (26/30) and second in both the repeat sprint (23.95 sec) and beep test (level 15.9). Was equal-second in the kicking test (27/30), goalkicking test (25/30) and standing vertical jump (76cm), fifth in both the running vertical jump (90cm) and 3km time trial (9:59) and equal-sixth in the 20m sprint (2.93 sec)."

Pretty impressive, he's certainly quick. His skills are good too. Has to be in the mix you would think and should be there at 45.

Yes true. If we can draft in the pace and skill at the very least get the skill. Most of the guys we are thinking about are very highly skilled.

Don't think he's slow though. Agree we need some genuine pace but we definitely still have room for a versatile big bodied mid who 'cracks in' has lovely skills, great overhead and can probably play anywhere on the ground

No he's not slow. Just not that quick and his style seems to be to use the ball rather than run with it. So the capabilities you mention are great and so I am happy if we get him. Brings some silk to the table.

Yeah absolutely, perfect if we combine him with some blistering pace like Menadue or Garlett if they happen to be available.

My real requirements this year, no matter if they're a mid/KPD/forward/Ruckman whatever they must be able to win the ball when it's there to be won, have at least average pace (so no genuine plodders) and have at the least sound decision making and ball use. If they have those basics down pat they can fit into our squad!

Yeah I can see that but I think McCartin can become a genuine forward 50 'general' type. Has a real presence and is good at ground level. Would combine really well with Hogan.

Perhaps saints will combine with McKenzie but personally I don't see mcCartin as a pick 1, pick 2-8 yes. Don't see GWS needing him but that hasn't stopped them before.

Paige Cardona said this about Drummond.

"Nathan Drummond is a really exciting prospect that’s gone from ‘just’ a forward last season to a bona fide utility type, blessed with elite speed and endurance and a big natural leap. The Vic Country utility is a big-stage player, with his 30 disposals and a goal against Sandringham in the elimination final his finest display for the year. Drummond’s strengths lay in his speed, his running capacity and his thumping kick which easily penetrates over 50 metres. The top-age prospect this year has become more of a well-rounded player, being able to play through the midfield, off half back and forward where his marking attributes and long kick have been highlighted. I really rate his strong attack at the ball and his agility to lend regular surges through the midfield. He is explosive, has x-factor in his game while he’s also bit of a spare-parts man: he can play several roles as required on the day. He doesn’t necessarily excel in one position, but he’s a handy utility that is a side’s reliable fix-it option. An athletic monster, Drummond came inside the top 10 for every physical test at the combine, and averaged 15 disposals in two appearances for Vic Country before a hamstring injury, but was arguably the stand-out in testing at the draft combine."

The only thing I don't get is his player comparison is Bob Murphy, perhaps Paige has not watched a lot of Bobby....but Drummond can't dance around players like Murph, I can't see the similarity myself.

Yeah that's probably fair enough, was talking more for Melb considering they have 2 picks. Saints should just go with who they see as best available, wouldn't be going McCartin and McKenzie either

Well, let's just say it was us who has pick one and we didn't have Boyd. What would we do? Here we have an opportunity to grab a genuine KP forward and we know how hard they are to pick up in the draft and how hard and expensive they are to lure from other teams.

Seems to me that Petracca whilst a good player is not unanimously commanding the number one pick so it's not like he's a standout like has been the case is some other years. Some even rate Brayshaw ahead of him, and if you see the highlights real for Pickett he's the best player by miles.

I think we would be taking the KP gun. Hell we were trying to find a way to make sure we could land big Pete Wright or McCartin before the Boyd thing happened. Stkilda, other than the aging Roo are not that endowed with KP guns either and Roo won't be there when the whips are cracking in 4 to 5 years.

Sure they have midfield issues and they are behind us in that department, but KP guns come around once in a while, while mids are always there. I also think they can get very good mids at their picks in the 20's....they got Dunstan at around those picks last year as proof of what is possible and my reading of the mids available in the 20's is that there are some very very good ones.

You have to hate player comparisons. Almost always less useful and accurate than saying nothing at all.

I prefer wright and would have traded pick 1 this year for pick 4 & 6/7. Get one of the top 4 and then add a KPD to the mix.

Yeah....we should be able to get 5 of them. It's what I like about the picks we have and the depth of this draft. I think we'll get some really good players. My 5 preferred is a little different to yours but yours is probably more on the money. Some of the ones I like are not linked to us and in some cases like with Gore, Fronk says we have taken him off the board....but I'd settle for that 5....I really want Menadue.

Lamb is an interesting one. Under Macca I doubt we would have taken him with the emphasis on high quality characters but I wonder if that has changed.

Think someone had pretty good mail earlier that we have no interest in Rainbow in the main draft.

Hope Macdonald makes it to 39, cant see us using 26/27 on him.

Funny that again it seems we are mainly being linked to Victorians. I wonder if Kietel and Blakely are on our boards.

I agree that Menadue and McKenzie would be a great outcome.
