How did McKenzie go in the agility test? If he's quick in a straight line and able to turn corners in a decent amount of time, I'd say he wouldn't make it to our second pick.

I wonder if our club employs the same method as the Doggies re: recruiting.

McCartney has overhauled the previous recruiting system which he said focused too much on one particular trait a player had.

There's now a mathematical scoring system in place that gives draftees a rating out of 100 (which they calculate from categories such as speed, disposal, marking etc which is then calibrated to that players specific position) and that is how they order/rank the draftees.

These draftees are then divided into groups by position (KPP, Midfielders, Ruck, Utility etc) and if they decide to pick for need, they simply take the best available from whichever group is relevant, however, if they wish to go best available - they take player with the highest overall score, regardless of which group they are in.

I dare say we would have a similar system in place?

that to me seems like an effective method for an understaffed recruiting department.
Athletes will score very good
You can't replace men on the ground seeing first hand

Would love for McKenzie to still be around for our 2nd pick. If we are to get Jaksch I'd really hope we can get a 2nd round pick back in some sort of package for Garlett or in the Robbo deal so we can get this kid!

I'd say it would take into account more than athletic attributes. Looking at the players the dogs have brought in the last few years:

Bontempelli, Dahlhaus, Hrovat, Hunter, Libba, Macrae, Smith, Stringer, Wallis - All set to be good players

Honeychurch and Jong look likely

Traded for Crameri, Austin and Stevens

Pretty bloody good if you ask me.

Great to hear that our recruiters have interviewed 170 times plus.
Watching a player is one thing but getting to really know them can be almost as important.
Getting the right characters in order to build from the bottom up will pay dividends.

Genuinely excited for the draft and given what seems to be the success in recent years, I'll be looking forward it to it all the way through to the RD.

They kept a core group of senior players that nurtured the young guys too. Boyd, Murphy, Gia, Morris etc are all quality role model types. They are still lacking some good KPP, IMO.

Yeah definitely weakest in the comp for KPP, but they can trade or draft for that. Their midfield is going to be unbelievable.

That's why I'm so excited that the plan seems to be to load up on picks :)

I'm guessing we have interviewed moore, Durdin, laverde, ahern, McKenzie, Goddard, marchbank, weller and keitel

If they trade they will end up with someone like Clark,Lynch or White - so unlikely to be the answer especially given Footscray aren't the most desirable club to go to.

Drafting talls generally takes 4 years (see Josh Kennedy and Hendo as examples) before you are likely to get an above league average output.

That is a fair wait for them to be really competitive

As much as i love the romance of selecting McKenzie with our 2nd , if T Keitel is available at that pick I would rather we snap him up.
Especially if we gain KJ through trades.
From the limited viewing I have seen of him, Keitel has been impressive. Looks comfortable at either end of the ground and could really turn into a pretty good swingman at AFL level.
