Would love to have an academy but it will never happen. We have the TAC system to develop kids. In QLD and NSW the cupboard is bare with regard to junior development. Hence academies.
It just sucks that Heeney goes at 19. Swans should give up both 1st and 2nd round picks to get him. GWS should give up 2nd and 3rd round for Steele. They get too much anyway GWS, they hold teams to ransom during trade time upgrading their picks

Giants start with 4 and 20 but finish with 4, 6, 7, 23, 24 (Steele) plus get Griffin

So he's worked his arse off to make sure he can play AFL. That's the attitude you want from your draftees
Ben Cousins was like this and he turned out ok on the field
wasn't an insult to his character or even footballing ability I was just making the comment that I believe he has little room to improve, which shouldn't majorly be a problem because he's already a very good player.
It just means that at 25 we wont be seeing a Gibbs like change from him, there will be no breakout year it will be just good consistent footy from the start.
Once again not a knock on him.

The guy missed most of a very important development year in 2013 and although he's worked hard he still has a lot of improvement needed with his endurance. He's also about to spend the next 3-4 pre-seasons with the development coaches and he'll be playing against senior bodies for the first time and at the highest level possible which will fast track anyone's development. The same calls were made about Dustin Martin who has improved almost every year an Brayshaw is a more driven character than Martin.

Why aren't we talking about Dean Gore a little more at 28? Reads like he would be a great addition to the mid rotation...strong, quick first few steps, good by foot.
Wouldn't be unhappy if Gore was called out at 28. Don't expect it though. He appears destined for 30-40 range. Think he's a good prospect. Not fast of foot, but appears fast of mind.

Haven't heard much of him but hope he maybe slips bit further down. Menadue I think firm for us at 28 if available

Lol lol lol best thing I've heard all day

Reason I said pray is it must be hard being a Dees supporter and going to draft day, they could end up with the whole draft and still stuff it up. But in all honestly would be nice to see some improvement which we did see and young elite talent coming through as it's been a long road since 2008, with sackings and death of Jim Stynes plus more. I hope they do well in 2015 but not expense of Blues
I'd hate to see Melbourne come good.

It would take away half of Titus orielly's material...

Their pick 2 I see Angus Brayshaw, good hard mid rated highly
Pick 3 Patty McCartin, If they are going to build a forward line around Jesse Hogan this is best way to go about it get it over and done with having 2 top forwards next 10 years

Sam Frost covers Frawley loss at expense of 2nd round pick. Good player did rate him, GWS should be kicking themselves

Melbourne to me I can't help but see as a basket case as Harker and Etsal said just culture of under performing and poor development and poor everything has made me feel sorry for them. They are the Richmond FC of 10-15 years ago that we're constantly rebuilding going nowhere and now just want a cycle where another team takes their crappy reigns

Don't forget they gave up a Boyd (pick 1, once in a generation player), Jaksch (pick 12, highly rated key position swingman), O'Rourke (pick 2, outside mid with elite ball use, speed and indurance), Whiley (inside mid absolutely dominating NEAFL) PLUS a first round draft pick.

hmm, best player in the draft.... Not doubting either players talent I just wonder what the scope for improvement is for both Brayshaw and Petracca.

Petracca was a goal kicking half forward with an explosiveness about the way he played he then built his tank up and is very handy in the midfield, although size wise he's not going to fill out any more and it will be interesting to see that big body against other big bodies.

Brayshaw has always been a midfield and due to his family connections has been in an elite training program (money no barrier) since his early teens. I honestly think there is no improvement in this player, in saying that it wont be a major problem because he is AFL ready made.

McCartin on the other hand i believe will grow into a very good dominate Full forward or Centre half forward, he'd be my choice as #1 and best future prospect (not including Moore)

Of the midfielders I think if LaVerde can make the transition into the midfield he'll be a MaCrae clone, Heeney and Wellar have fantastic attributes to be very good players they just need to change there bodies from boys to men.
My sources within the TAC reckon Brayshaw will end up the best in the draft, however I wonder what impact ending up at Melbourne will have on his development.

I am not convinced at all on Leverde, seems to have come from no where purely because he reminds people of Bontempelli. McCartin seems okay, but hasn't really dominated enough to think he is a no risk proposition which seems a lot to risk on a pick 2/3.

People are saying this is an even draft, IMO I just think it is quite a weak draft with few A grade propositions amongst them. For a top 5 pick IMO you should be expecting 200 games, a club BNF and all Australian.. I am just not convinced any of the top guys here will end up that quality.

Biggest loss for them was Boyd, the pressure now is big to fill that long term void with Patton going down and loosing Giles as well. Why I think Giants will chase Peter Wright

Frost I think is a big loss, not as big as Tom Boyd but played well IMO

O'Rouke, Jaksch, Whiley loss not as big reason being for me just didn't see heaps of game time maybe because still raw so didn't hurt as much in short term but time will tell long term when bodies start maturing. JOR and Whiley main argument is Giants midfield will eventually come good and be a dominant one soo much depth in their in the long term but again time will tell.

GWS probs saying let's upgrade picks and cut our losses with these 5 turn it into picks 6,7,23 with Griffin and hope for best

I think Langford is most similar to Bontempelli, but I agree that the love for Laverde to this point has been a bit over the top. I'm not buying into it.

Whos the better bluffers?

GWS don't think linked to Langford, Suns shown more interest, might even fall to us

Pick Me: Kyle Langford is a Jack Gunston-type raw talent who Collingwood visited Tuesday.
Big, big chance at pick 5:http://bit.ly/KyleLangfordPickMe…
May not affect us directly as Langford may have well been top 20 regardless but we'd be pretty happy should another bolter or two come through.

With players such as Maynard, McKenzie, Lamb and Blakely all possible top 18 picks, we may just get someone we didn't expect to see at #19
Not that there's anything wrong with the aforementioned but just don't think that they're on our immediate radar.

I'm really keen to see where Maynard gets picked up this year. Have seen him play at his best, and seen him at his worse also.
Could legitimately go anywhere from 15-50 IMO.

Carlton discard Kane Lucas set for West Coast lifeline

DELISTED Carlton midfielder Kane Lucas has had a medical examination at West Coast and looks set to resurrect his AFL career in his home state.

AFL.com.au understands the 23-year-old met with the Eagles on Monday and is hopeful of being selected in the upcoming NAB AFL Draft or the rookie draft.
Seems that Lucas will get drafted by W.C.................and become the start he could have been
