Lamb is extroverted Nori (and by the way, welcome) yet he may not be the character we want.

I think, and I may be wrong, in that when Rogers talks about character he may mean qualities such as respect, integrity, being self-motivated and having leadership abilities.
Some may confuse leadership with being loud but that's not necessarily nor always, the case.

Judd was never loud but he always garnered respect for his work-rate, determination and training.................didn't play too bad either :)

If by some, you mean me......No, i do not confuse leadership with being loud.

But playing groups need life and energy. It is a lifeblood.

Our coach has publicly said we have too many quiet kids. If a potential draftee is notably quiet and introverted, it is not a quality that will help him get to Carlton atm.

That doesn't mean the kid is no good, or you don't understand what actions mean instead of words.

Thanks Harker. Long time reader...

I'd say character does involved personality traits like whether someone is shy and timid, or quiet with a steely determination. I'm not saying talent would be ignored just because a player happens to be quiet.

Btw, I don't believe Lamb is the right fit for Carlton as stated previously on this page.

Settle down Terry, I didn't mean you. :)
It does though come across somewhat derogatory using the term, some............May have to find another word.

Playing groups need life and energy?
Absolutely and the general mood of not only the kids but even some more senior players when Thomas arrived, was palpable.

I think our kids are now louder and bubblier than some of the more senior players that have been around for some time now.
You don't need all of the same types but you certainly do want a good spread of life around the group...........unless you have 44 Gary Ablett Snrs. :)

I'll never understand why some people continue to blame Rogers and his new team for Hughes' mistakes.
Where did i say i blamed Rogers? He was a part of that team though wasn't he? He didn't magically appear when Hughes left?
Anyway Menzel was a great pick, very happy he had the balls to pull the trigger when the others didn't. So far Rogers has been good, but if he goes boekhurst at 28 it's a worry. Just hope some of that previous recruiting madness hasn't rubbed off.

Not from what I have read/heard. Needs a stern coach - like Mick - to channel his attention apparently.
I'd rather someone who came ready for the challenge, not the sort of person who want to slide by on talent and potential.

The story a little while ago about him slapping an opponent in the face and giving away 50. That turned me right off Lamb

I thought it may have been for the fact that they're so young and cute and we really shouldn't be eating them. :straining:

Must admit, didn't realise the boys have been a month into pre-season.

Kid gets drafted next week, wouldn't know anyone from squat.

Be pretty intimidating to walk into that.

Hardly garbage. More historical fact.
Why are you judging Rogers on the job Hughes did before him?

That seems a little unfair to me. Are you happy to be judged in your job based on what your predecessor did before you?

Forget what happened before Rogers landed the top job as that's not relevant now. Judge him and his team on their record since being in the hot seat....and you'd be very hard pressed to argue logically that they are the worst in the league.

So you want to derail the thread?

I really don't want to do that so all I'll say is this.

Rogers has been a senior member of the recruitment team for a very long time. I don't absolve him of all responsibility for the abject failure of the Hughes era. I'm not impressed with our recruiting so far while he has been in charge. However it is impossible to mount a "logical" argument that we are the worst in the league over the last few years because recruiting is judged after a longer time period than Rogers has been head recruiter.

One last thing. Respect is earned, and no respect has been earned by the Carlton recruiting team for a very long time.
