Well you're not going to pick an alleged KF who's 178cm are you? And a 196cm KF looks the goods, but if he's 68kgs and would snap in a stiff breeze then you know he's a project lad at best...Ha! You said it was handy to know.. Umm ok that's great but u still didn't clarify my curiosity

Well of course you don't but you seem to google every bloody player who's 195cm regardless. Do you want a team of giants? Whatever happened to picking a player on pure ability? It seems Geelong have done ok with this philosophy. And now you have an infatuation regarding weight? I'm fairly certain you can put on the weight where necessary.Well you're not going to pick an alleged KF who's 178cm are you? To be fair to Uncle, he's responding to a specific and much-pleaded-for need for our team. We need a bunch of KPFs for the next era of football. As such, a KPF of the bygone era (somewhere above 190cm) will simply not do. The fact is, KPFs, with rare exceptions, are becoming very tall and big: look at the Coleman medal list. Look at the younger KPFs starting to make their mark. They're all over that 195cm mark, and quite stocky.Well of course you don't but you seem to google every bloody player who's 195cm regardless. There's one major component they all have; ability. That's why they're up there. Their ability to know how to use their body in a marking contest, their ability to read the play ahead of them which enables them to get off their opponent quicker off a lead, their team mates ability to hit them on the chest also helps..To be fair to Uncle, he's responding to a specific and much-pleaded-for need for our team. If we lacked inside grunts, he'd be looking at the most relevant parameters for them. But since we've got Ross, Curren, Dunstan, Armitage, Steven, etc, that's not something he's too fussed about.
True, talent is necessary. But a player could have all the talent in the world, but if they're 190cm, they're not going to get there. Just ask Tom Simpkin. I actually think Simpkin is quite a talented guy, in his way. But his lack of height has always been a significant impediment - how often have we heard the line, "Simpkin would be amazing, if he was just 3-4cm taller."? I've heard that plenty. There's one major component they all have; ability. That's why they're up there. Height is a bonus not the be all and end all.
Weight and strength are 2 different components. You could be 100kg but still weak in a contest if you don't have the core strength.
With the amount of reading I do in my free time, I'd consider myself a semi-expert...True, talent is necessary. The thing is, talent is a hard thing to quantify - there's no easy stat or measure for that. What IS an easy measure is height and weight. Barrells brings up these tall players, for those watching the draftees in more detail (peoplelike the Emperor, Rahul, etc), to describe their talent. He basically catches them all in the net, and then asks the experts to filter out the best fish from the bunch. I find that helpful.

Aaron black, jack darling, Jordan Murdoch , Tom lynch (ade) just to name a few are under 195cm and they all have the potential to become pretty good key forwards. To say u need to be 195cm + to make it is a mind boggling statement.. You can see talent by watching these kids apply their trade live. You get a a very good idea whether or not these kids can transfer their attributes in the afl..True, talent is necessary. ****en Swans... Look like getting another gun for 'free'.... BastardsIsaac Heeney is built like a brick shit house
Simpkin is a good stopper but I don't think he's overly talented. If he were he'd simply be playing in another position.True, talent is necessary. I want us to poach Tom Mitchell now
will Patty MC be playing?
I'd only call Aaron Black a KPF from that list. Tom Lynch is a hit-up half forward or 3rd tall (the KPF being Jenkins & Walker), as is Darling (key forwards being McGovern/Lycett & Kennedy. They dominate because they have a big tank, roam anywhere from the goalsquare to the back flank & take the '3rd' defenderA

Simpkin is a trier . I don't believe he has the talent and therefore would be the same type of player if he was 3-4 cm taller.
At the end of the day talent will always win over height- not saying isn't essential but to say you need to be 195cm+ in order to become an A grader is ridiculous
He lumbers, but he isn't slow, Garlett wasn't cruising, he may not have been running his fastest but he certainly wasn't cruising. PW will be scary on the lead in a few years, a 203cm forward who has a ruckman's game sense and awareness and a forward's marking and kicking.
They're still forwards that you can kick to in a one on one contest. They just have different attributes as you stated which is what you want in a forward line. Modern forwards don't stay in the forward 50 anymore..I'd only call Aaron Black a KPF from that list. Jordan Murdoch plays as a 'small' to his KPF being Hawkins & Walker/Vardy... He also has blistering pace. Wouldnt be surprised to see him migrate to the wing once they realise Varcoe just doesnt cut it anymore
Wow really...If Paddy kicks 5 or more today then I say draft him. Any less and he's an over-rated dud.
PS: I just remembered this is BigFooty so I would like to officially clarify the above statement was sarcastic.
