I watched the U/18's games for the first time yesterday and i was quite surprised at how bad McCartins attitude was towards making second efforts. He did take that nice mark at his feet but when the ball was on the ground he didn't seem to care. I'm not bothered by his diabetes or his height its that i would take a player with less natural ability right now if they are prepared to work hard everytime and from what i've heard Wright has that in spades. Cant wait to watch tomorrow to see if true.
Im not fussed with Sydney getting Heeney the developing draft pool can only be good for every team in the long run. Weller looked all class and thought he would fit in nicely with us if we had a pick 8'ish and i liked Goddards work on Cripps a possible swing man one day but hes to good for our second pick and not special enough for our first.
So Wrights my man as of now and i can't wait for draft camp to see who may pop up next to change it.

I think we need to brace ourselves for more BJ, Dal, Mac type departures. It's a good draft and we're going to want to have plenty of good picks in it I reckon.

We'll probably put it out there that we're open to almost anything and I reckon we'll probably get at least one offer that we consider too good to refuse, like we apparently did with Mac last year.

Yeah fair call mate.

Like another poster said - it's a bit sad that we're getting excited about the draft period and trade period and its only round 16!! (It was actually earlier for me)! lol

We gotta nail our first pick this year and not make the same mistakes we made in 01 with our 2 top 5 picks which ended up costing us flags. Just get it right cos im sick and tired of this club making horror mistakes year after year.

Yes true but to be fair since the new recruiting team has come in (2011) we have done really well with the picks we have had. Spencer White was speculative at pick 25 but his upside is huge if he can get it together....he is also a longer term project. Tom Lee - multiple clubs were queueing up for him and we also got other players alongside him due to swapping 2nd and 3rd round picks with GWS.

I'm a fan of Elshaugh, Bains, etc and have confidence that they will make the right decisions this year....

So it would make sense to ( for example ) trade our first pick for a later first round pick + a 2nd round pick?
Other possibilities, CJ + our 3rd rounder for second rounder.

maybe wouldnt go that far

two inside 10 i'd jump at, at this stage

i'd definitely trade out some of GOPs, solid players for 2nd/3rd rounders

Kristian Pisano doesn't rate Hugh Goddard a first rounder and has him going early second round if that happened and we got him at Pick 21/22 or something that would really start setting up our KPP stocks

McCartin/Wright/someone + Goddard, doubt it'll happen though come draft night.

If all Goddard is is a defender second rounder at best IMO. You don't take defenders with a top 10 pick that's for sure.

He seems a defender only, gave Cripps a bath once he went onto him in that game yesterday.

Then why bother with him when we already have Delaney and Bruce?

He's good at both ends, it just so happens he's very good down back.

He could be a very good lead-up KPF if that's where we played him. He has solid hands, has a kick like a donkey with ADD and is super athletic. The knock on him is that he doesn't take games by the nuts when he's down forward.

That being said, thus far he's looked the most naturally talented of the big fellas when I've been watching, whether that means he goes really early or just early is debatable.

He wormed his way back into my heart yesterday.

He's an outstanding defender, and an OK forward, give me Lever ahead of him with a top 10 pick. I've had a Hurley comparison for him for a while and I stick by that, an OK forward who can go back and be an effective stopper and intercept player.

Depth, competition for spots, could be better than both of them. I like Bruce but he's far from proven.

This.. You need more than just two key defenders.

Our KPP stocks aren't great either for the 25 and under bunch very thin; Luke Delaney, Josh Bruce, Spencer White, Rhys Stanley i don't call Lee or Simpkin KPP. Our rucks are good though.

Knightmare made a suggestion yesterday that has some merit...
"Matt Sully as a mature ager also has been thereabouts for a (few) years and could probably be had as a rookie for a club looking for someone who can help a little more immediately."

I'm getting keener on the idea of a mid with round 1 and then a McKenzie, Keitel or Watchman with round 2... though Peter Wright looks very classy.

I just wish Metro would do us a bloody favour and play him up forward!

Will probably be the Lewis Taylor of this years draft and slide because of his height, looks the goods in these champs.

Yeah, the real question over him is how far will he slide? Do you risk missing him to pick him up with a later pick or even a rookie spot or do you pull the trigger and get him a bit earlier?

I'm starting to think;

Round 1: Wright
Round 2: Ahern/Miller/Laverde
Round 3: Daniel/Webb/Gore

Rahul, objections?
