Just gonna add in where they were taken in the draft to this:

Brent Harvey (NM) 167cm (claims 172cm) * - Pick 47
Jake Neade (PA) 170cm - GWS pre-list trade: Neade and Hombsch for pick 29 (I think Neade was the steak knives)
Ben McGlynn (Syd) 171cm - Rookie
Eddie Betts (Adel) 173cm - PSD
Paul Puopolo (Haw) 173cm * - Pick 66
Ben Kennedy (Coll) 174cm - Pick 19
Jarryd Blair (Coll) 174cm * - Rookie
Hayden Ballantine (Fre) 174cm - Pick 21
Devon Smith (GWS) 174cm - Pick 14
Nathan Hrovat (WB) 174cm - Pick 21

Not exactly all late picks there.

the small guys are getting recognised but Ben Kennedy would have been top 10 if he was tall

did peter wright end up kicking those bags of goals?

regardless of pick 1 i think its clear now we need to get our hands on more 2nd and 3rd rounders. early 2nd rounder will get some serious sliders me thinks
Nope.

10 disposals, 1 behind, 1 mark, 2 tackles, 3 clearances @60% for Peter Wright.

Petracca recorded 17 disposals, 1 behind, 6 marks, 4 clearances, 4 inside 50's @ 59%

Petracca and McCartin seem to be the two putting their hand up the most for pick 1 IMO from the games i've seen anyway which is just the televised matches.

With the head high rule the way that it is Caleb Daniel would be perfect for a forward pocket lots of frees great kick and knows where to be i would draft him for sure.
I liked the way Tim Jones from Tassie went about it in the second division but how does that stand up to first division where is he likely to do in the draft.

Nothing to read into but on radio today Alan Richardson was on 3AW and was asked about Christian Petracca mentioned how he went to school with his son and he knows his family really well.

Done deal. Will look great in the #8 IMO.

Now let's talk nicknames. Are we happy with Quadzilla?

100% agree! I'm giving up on the idea of trying to land another 1st rounder, it's just going to cost us too much.

There is going to be some real quality between 25-45. I reckon our plan should be to have 3 picks in this range to go with out pick 1 and 20 odd. We should already have pick 40 odd, so hopefully the likes of Gilbert, gwilt, Ray etc could net us these picks.

#4 and "Plugger Jnr"... Unless we're keeping it for big Josh Schache

Jayden Laverde seems to tick the boxes I'd want from our second round pick.
or Jordan Cunico.
Seems like there are probably also some decent outside mids available for our 3rd pick.
Given the mids available in this draft I tend to think we really should go for the best tall forward available.
I'll leave it to the club to determine whether the health issues are likely to be a problem, but i hope they play it conservatively. Picks this early don't come very often. I'd hate to get a Gumbleton or Lleuenberger.

Right now, I don't think Laverde will be available for our second pick. Cunico should be, but he's more a half forward.

Half forward?

We definitely won't be picking him then, unless he can play half back flank too ;)

What range of draft picks would you put Laverde in?
Personally I would draft him in the 20s at the moment, but he will be drafted by a club in the 5/20 range, depending on how he finishes the year. He has a big body, can play either forward or midfield and uses the ball well. I highly doubt he gets past GWS at 19 (or whatever their end of 1st is), he offers something a little different for the Giants.

Grrr I want him now. I wonder if Hawthorn will trade us their first for our second and CJ and Milera. ( they stare at pictures of Dunstan, Savage, and McEvoy before quietly shaking their head ).

West coast have a pretty good forward line but crap midfield hence they're struggles. You need to have an engine room first and foremost

Engine room is coming through though.
Ross, Dunstan, Curren, Saunders, Newnes, Acres, Weller, Billings, will all get better than they are now.
You can always find a midfielder ie Wines , Martin, Dunstan, who can immediately impact.
Talls can take years, so its important to get one primed and ready.

Remember the Bulldogs pre-Barry Hall. You can be stuck without a full forward.

Not denying that, i was replying to a post which said a gun forward line will cover a crap midfield which is not true

Fair enough, the other way round if anything.
Its why Schulz is good at port and was crap at Richmond.

So the chances of this happening are very slim..

But say we don't rate McCartin or Wright so we draft Petracca for example, if Mitch Clark is in the right head space and ready to return to the AFL we could potentially get him while also getting an out of contract Griffiths get him for biscuits.

Head into 2015 with Riewoldt, Clark, White, Stanley, Griffiths and at the end of 2015 draft the best tall (we'll be bottom again IMO) assuming he is better then this years or even draft the best tall while flogging an out of contract Boyd, Cameron or Patton. I'm not convinced GWS will trade one of them this year.

Very much like the actual AA team, too many mids, too many Vics.

Trade one this year, or lose them for nicks next year through the PSD? Would be the coup of the century if we could pull it off!

PSD is overused.

Who even uses it anymore? the crap about them leaving GWS is also just desperate hope from opposition supporters who want a decent key forward. I'd put money on none of them leaving.
