I'd say he's still more likely to go somewhere in the teens but it wouldn't surprise me if a club with a late top ten pick snapped him up. His leadership is rated really highly and he's one of the safer picks in the draft. Has no strong weaknesses, can be very confident he'll be a 150 plus game player.

the success of bonts as a bottom ager, i think will make more clubs keener to get their hands on them earlier. will only build duggans currency IMO

Yeah, I haven't heard anything about if he played school footy or is injured.
McCartin kicked 5 against caulfield grammar. Apparently though he is a bit if a nut job had blokes in headlocks and was playing dirty. Although it could just be white line fever

Not to mention he'd have every bloke in the APS trying to get under his skin cos he's 'famous'... The kid's 18, he'll be fine... Not to mention that's 5 goals out of a team 6...

McKenzie's 16 goals was 16.4 of a whopping 33.12 for Marcellin against Yarra Valley's 3.7 apparently... That's 100 individual points out of a team 210...

Man his stocks are rising by minute.

Didn't Ben Walton kick 18 goals in an Adelaide school game?

I'd like to know how big Yarra Valley Grammar's full back is!
Hartung kicked 20 in an underage game... ;)

Fact is, you've still got to get, and kick, the ball I suppose... 16.4 is a pretty solid haul.

No doubt... but McK has kicked 10 in a TAC game against weak opposition (when all the champ players were away) & has kicked 16 against an unknown school opposition.

I'm not writing him off by the way, just suggesting that he needs to do it against strong opposition before we start raving about him. Let's face it, if he gets drafted then the opposition is only going to get harder.

People have concerns about McCartin being able to continue to play to his strengths against mature senior bodies... well I'd suggest that will impact McKenzie to a far greater extent (given he hasn't been super successful against even the top line junior defenders).

Mc Kenzie would be a speculative pick like Spencer White. If we went for Petracca he's a viable option with a later pick. You need talent to kick big bags at any level.

A bloke from Noble Park who was more comfortable playing cricket didn't exactly come to us with a monster pedigree, 122 games later James Gwilt has forged himself a pretty fine AFL career.

I think the importantance of selection at the Champs can be overstated, plenty have been picked and not made it, quite a few have missed and made it. An invitation to the Combine is more of an indicator for me, because AFL clubs have to request your presence. McKenzie isn't Tom Boyd, Jon Patton or Tony Lockett, but gringo's right; to kick bags like that, at any level, you need talent. Keep in mind McKenzie was a state underage basketballer too, you'd hope he'd have some athleticism, agility and spatial awareness from that.

McKenzie's lucky break is that, at 196cm and 100kg already, he's going to be able to physically match it with the big key defenders from the get-go, and will not be as easily spoiled over the top as the slightly shorter Paddy. Look, I like the look of the kid, but I'm not suggesting he's the Messiah.

So is he a very naughty boy? (You opened yourself up to that one)!:p:D:D:D:cool:

Er... I'm going to suggest we've had a few other naughty boys since then... though not on the footy field, admittedly... er...

Daniel Archer had similar dimensions to McKenzie... I'm sure his level of talent would enable him to kick bags against opposition at lower levels. We need talent but we need top end, elite talent...

Once again, I'm not potting McKenzie, he might end having a fantastic AFL career BUT I was just pointing out that kicking a bag against inferior talent is not necessarily something to go gaga about.

I disagree with your statement that McK would be harder to spoil than Paddy. He has maybe 3 cm max on McCartin & has nowhere near the footy nous to use his body or vice like hands that Paddy does.

I don't agree as far as the Archer comparison, mainly because of the basketball factor. Arch was as slow as a wet week on a good day, and worse in the wet - something that has not far been said about Reece... but I take your point.

Have you actually seen McKenzie in the flesh, because you talk as if you have; not a shot at you, but I'm interested to get your impressions if you have.

The most amazing thing I read here is that Yarra Valley actually scored, would have to be the worst football team in AUSTRALIA.

Nah, there's country footy teams that don't at all.

My old man rejoices in telling me he kicked 1.14 in a country semi final one year.

Most impressive thing about it was that he kicked 1.11 from CHF by half time and the other three points cam after the break when he was playing CHB.

They lost - his coach was not pleased
