FWIW, McKenzie has kicked 10 in a proper season TAC Cup match, something neither McCartin (7 max.), Wright (6), or Daniher (7), Boyd (6) or Patton (6) managed to do, weak opposition or otherwise.

I'd assume that's probably because most good players were at the Champs while he did it though, an opportunity the others weren't afforded.

I think that's doing the kid a disservice (my man-crush aside).

The point that's there to be made is that all of the other-named blokes will have had various opponents, good and not so good, on them across their seasons; the fact is that none of them, and Boyd and Patton were both referred to as absolute standouts, kicked that level of bag.

Again FWIW, McKenzie's done the business this year after missing all of last year to play a different sport. IMO, if he'd played last year there'd be a much louder buzz around him. Essentially he's 'come from the clouds'...

With Wright playing mainly as a ruck, Durdin, Moore, Marchbank and Goddard preferred as backs, McKenzie quickly comes into calculations as the second best true key forward in the draft. I wouldn't be surprised if he's this years Cam McCarthy and goes mid-late first round.

Rahul, it's not often that I disagree but I do here, and strongly. Paddy will be an AFL colossus, who has performed at the highest junior levels over the years. Big RM hasn't gotten a kick against any fully loaded teams, is more a developing player at this stage IMHO.

With respect Bri-man, I think there's a whiff of bullshit about that...

- In Rnd 1 he kicked 2 against an Oakleigh backline featuring Moore and Beasley in a well-beaten team.
- In Rnd 2 he kicked 3.2 against a fully-loaded Calder and spent some of the second half playing loose back to protect the Knights' lead.
- In Rnd 3 he would have played on Dan Nielson; he only kicked 1 goal, but if he'd kicked straight he could have had 5 (1.4).

From memory he did a minor ankle just prior to the Champs, which probably cost him a look-in, and he was included in the initial Metro squad.

Paddy will be a very good footballer, he already is, but RM could be just as good...

All will be revealed in November!

Shouldn't that be 'all will be revealed in about 5-6 years' when they've actually been at the AFL level for a while & settled....?

Nope, but at their best in full confidence, against a team that's bad to decent, with average delivery, give me Reece over McCartin. McCartin still the better forward, but Reece can be a monster. At their worst, McCartin >>>> McKenzie.

Brian I'll leave out the AFL colossus argument as that is one for another time. I have no doubt that McCartin is a better player, I still rate him in my top 3 for the draft class, but at full flight Reece is just more dominant. I don't think we'll ever see Paddy kick 8+ in the TAC Cup, crap opponent or not.

That's a massive call. What is it about McCartin that has you so gung ho about him? Do you think we should take him before Petracca or Wright? Why? What is his point of difference?

Speed? Strength? Agility? Intelligence?

Do you think he can be versatile enough at AFL level to get a kick if he is being beaten inside 50? That's my biggest worry. That he is going to be an anchor and that we are going to basically go from kicking it to Roo all the time to bombing it to Paddy.

I'll admit that I've only seen him this year so he hasn't been at his best but I just don't see where this train of thought on him being an AFL monster is coming from... He shows plenty of glimpses of something but no so much that you look at him and think he is clearly the best option for pick 1. The biggest thing I could say in his favour is that the quality of defenders this year is better than than what Boyd and Patton went up against so his slight under performance can be explained.

I might just be letting my fear of failure blind me here but I can't help but think that either of Petracca or Wright would be better players for us.
