If Petracca can transfer his Under age form to the AFL, he could really be something special...almost Ricciuto like in his dual on-ball abilities and forward prowess. He could play 150 games as a mid, then another 100 as a 6 foot 2, 95kg forward...a certain No1 in my eyes

It's odd that when a kid looking to get drafted comes onto a forum like this, we circle like vultures. BrianSpeaking offering him advice about losing 10kg, what the hell?!

The kid has kicked bags, I don't care who it's against, I for one would be rapt to pick him up.

As for the no.1 pick, I'm firmly on the Petracca wagon. We need best mid available this year, and it so happens the best mid in the draft is also the best player. Sold.

It's not really that odd. It's an 17 or 18 year old kid we're talking about, it would be weird to have people writing about you on the internet, he came on here to defend himself but probably should have just been straight up and just said he was who he was. Obviously he'll learn a lesson from this, but yeah, I don't think it's really that odd or unexpected.

Again we're assuming it's definitely him and not a friend/family member/unrelated whackjob...

Dangerous course on the intranets IMO.

Nah, no big deal...he (whoever he was) only set the record straight, with a little whack at the end...i'd be quite happy to find out it was RM. Certainly wouldn't stop me from wanting him at FF come round 1 2015

It wasn't him, let's the give Reece and the poster a break.

To anyone who has watched these two guys if you could give a bit of a summary; how is Petracca different to Brayshaw and has Petracca passed Brayshaw who seems to have been more highly rated for a long time?
Petracca is more athletic and much stronger, with a better mark and he can probably forge a career up forward if he's no good in midfield. Brayshaw is much more 'complete' as a midfielder, very good off both sides, can win inside ball, enough acceleration to break a tackle, very tough and his tackling is well above average. He'll be a candidate for captaincy at any footy club he heads to in the draft. If I was drafting for the Saints I'd take him from Pick 3 onwards.

If you had to compare both if their game styles with current players, who would you say they are similar to?

A few others have mentioned it but after watching the Bulldogs (or Wart Hogs as my daughter calls them) young midfield, I'm convinced that we need absolute elite young midfield talent.

Petracca, Petracca, Petracca.

I agree with the jist of what you are saying but remember we were without some elite young talent talent of our own in the midfield yesterday. In the future, we will be seeing Dunstan, Acres and Billings running through there. Add Petracca to that (plus what we already have and some more draftees) and I reckon we will stack up well against the Bulldogs or anyone for that matter.

Lads, Darcy Parish is our golden child, if we can jag him next year HAPPY DAYS!!!

In other words, let's not get caught up on this years draft only, their are some kids next year whom I would give up this years top picks for if we could, exciting times!

Petracca to Dustin Martin, with better midfield ability. Potentially a Patrick Dangerfield. Brayshaw to Liam Shiels, but I was very tempted to give him the L Hayes comparison, couldn't because it's too hard to compare anyone to Lenny, especially right now.

Rhys Mathieson, Darcy Parish, Ryan Burton, take your pick from that top 3. If only Mills and Dunkley weren't removed from talent field, Sydney should be forced to pick 1 and let the other go

Petracca, Petracca, Petracca.
You ain't seen nothing yet re the Bulldogs. They have the greatest father son in history coming through named Rhylee West, along with Jose Romeros son, both freaks, get on their band wagon.

I'm hearing that we will unload a fair few mid range pieces this trade period which will set us up for this draft but at the same time mean we won't win more than 3-4 games next year, so priority pic a real chance.
Thoughts?

I haven't much about Rhylee West, but Michael Romero is very solid.

I'm thinking we're doing well to offload pieces, as I don't think we have too many. Would prefer to keep Dempster & Fisher.

This would make sense to me. It fits the long term plan and the club has shown it doesn't really care about how trades effect short term performance. It would artificially keep us lower down the ladder until our kids develop but would hopefully result in a faster ascent. The real risk is in maintaining enough senior players for the kids to learn off but I trust the club to manage that. If it happens it will be very interesting to see what players have value and what they are worth. I have my doubts we have a huge amount to offer.

This is also why I don't buy the whole "We MUST get mids ASAP" line of thinking that some people here have at the moment. Sure, we desperately need mids and they would improve the team faster than if we got a key forward, but if the club rates Petracca/McCartin/Wright the same then I think we will take the forward. If they rate Petracca higher and we can't get a trade for a key forward then we will take him but taking a mid this years isn't a priority because we will have plenty of other years to get mids while the window on us getting a developing our own forward is quickly closing.

I'd also be surprised if we got a PP but we will have to wait and see how next year goes.

I agree, makes you think of all those guys like Dangerfield, Riccuto, Chapman etc big bodied lumps than can run through the midfield or beat them up forward too. Brayshaw reminds me a bit of the Swallows.

Surely at our stage of the rebiild we are still in best available rather than specifically drafting a position player.
I'm on the Petracca train for this reason and the fact that we have lost so much mid talent.
We have a void in the mids, lack outside run, spread and foot skills.
Willing to bet a quality fwd will be asking to leave GWS to come to us next year.

I'd be taking Petracca, purely based on the fact that he can play midfield & be a power small forward as well. If he's supposed to be a lot better than Jake Stringer (who we saw smash us yesterday in his 2nd yr) & has a game a lot like Mark Ricciuto ( 8-time AA recipient), I don't know why we are even thinking about it.... He's the one!!!

(Unless we get an awesomely ridiculous deal like Cameron & WHE for pick #1..... You can tell me I'm dreamin, but I can keep coming up with these dreams all day :D..... Isn't this what this thread is for?)

Who do you class as a mid range piece Brian?

Plenty of smalls available everywhere lads.

Not many Fyfe, Dangerfield, Judd type guys around though. Petracca could be as good as some of those guns. There are still only about 2 real guns in each clubs midfield- they don't show up that often and clubs don't like to part with them when they do.

Really?
The "quality" fwds who end up leaving will have 17 choices, I'd be curious to know why you think St Kilda would be top of that list..
Opportunity doesn't have currency for a "quality" fwd.
