Really?
The "quality" fwds who end up leaving will have 17 choices, I'd urious to know why you think St Kilda would be top of that list..
Opportunity doesn't have currency for a "quality" fwd.
Yes. Really.
Why is it so hard to fathom that given another 3 or 4 good selections like this year the saints will be far more appealing as a destination of choice.
A KPF waiting in the wings at GWS given a choice of waiting for years or getting regular game time. Think about it.

lol, when we get a major sponsor, that might be more real, the fact that we are not paying 100% of cap is also partially because we can't afford it..

You wouldn't happen to be the artist formerly known as Mortibacio? ;)

There's probably $600,000 reasons for them to choose a re building club paying way unders on the salary cap with the new rules that are in existence.
Allegedly they are knocking back 6 year 7 million dollar contracts, only one of these statements can be true..

No, you stated st Kilda would be the club of choice, not that it would be better than GWS..

Serve returned. :)

Surely now isn't the time to cash in with Longer?
I agree, I always thought Joey was a 100% one club man, but the last few weeks have made me seriously doubt his commitment.
If he still has it then he should stay, but if he no longer believes in the cuase he should go.

Reasons to play for the Saints

1.Money
2. learn the ropes under the tutelage of Nick Riewoldt
3. Live in footy central (Melbourne)
4. The coffee is better than ANYWHERE in metro Sydney (trust me, I know, I've lived here for 6 years so far)
5. Young developing list
6. The club has shown 12 years ago that they can rise to the pinnacle from the bottom, why couldn't we do it again?

Because I love the saints I am going to leave this alone, but seriously, thats just 6 targets.

Are you serious?

Had the chance to leave last year - he stayed.
Could have tested Free Agency at the end of this year - instead signed until 2016.

How is that not showing he is committed to St Kilda? just because he is having a down year like many players tend to have?

Living in GWS is about as attractive as living in the Gaza Strip, and playing at SKODA in front of 2000 people with less atmosphere than a country game wouldn't be much fun. Not exactly what kids dream of growing up and making the AFL.
Now compare that to Bayside Melbourne and the sandbelt, playing at Etihad or the MCG every second week.
The dam walls may be holding at GwS at the moment but when they break it's going to be oh so ugly.

We don't have any! Players with some tradable value in no particular order are Montagna, Armitage, Steven, Longer, Gilbert, Gwilt. Of those I can't see Joey or Steven going anywhere.

Can't see Big Bill going anywhere either. Gwilt not worth much as FA compo, Gilbert will be shopped. I hope we keep Armo.

Definitely serious, I love Joey.
Down year is fine, I wouldn't have a problem with that, but for the last month or so, I believe he has looked disinterested out there, if I am the only one thinking it I am more than happy to pull my head in.

Bring it on.... Don't hold back, I'm a big boy (wowee)

No doubt you barracked for the Saints when we recruited Lawrence, Capuano, Gehrig & Hamill in 1 offseason, why do you think that can't happen again? Arguably, our team was in a worse state than it is at present.

Surely now isn't the time to cash in with Longer?
Adelaide - Jacobs
Brisbane - Martin & Leuy
Fremantle - Sandilands, Clarke, Griffin
Hawthorn - McEvoy
GWS - Mumford
Bulldogs - Minson
Essendon - Ryder
West Coast - Cox and Nic Nat, with Lycett
GCS - Nicholls and Dixon, with Gorringe as cover
Geelong - McIntosh
Carlton - Kreuzer (LOL)
Richmond - Ivan Maric

EDIT: Basically, most teams are set in the ruck. Longer wouldn't be that valuable.

1. Money - cannot argue against that. We will spend 100% of the cap when up and running, rubbish that we can't afford to spend the cap, it's footy department spending that hurts.
2. Learning Under Nick - Not sure how this is a target, GWS have no player with Riewoldt's mix of production and experience.
3. Live in Melbourne - You could argue that some don't like being the center of attention (see: Buddy), but some (see: not Buddy) don't have trouble driving or avoiding the party powder.
6. This is history, not written by winners either (we know too well :( ), no way you can argue against this point.

No you're clearly not the only one to think it.

I just tend to think completely different.. His early season form was great but once the team starting going down he did and so did Riewoldt to be fair. I think he is committed for sure all he talks about is helping get the club back into the finals and he hopes to play more finals with St Kilda.

When you say "living in GWS" where do you mean?
The guys live mostly between Balmain and Bondi, the avg cost of living there is extreme, lets say a multiple of "bayside".
Avg crowd at Skoda is almost 9k, capacity is 23k, suggest this is roughly compatible with st Kilda crowds filling etihad as a %.
When has St Kilda played at the MCG every second week, I remember in 2009 or 2010 we whinged because we had had almost no games there..
I seriously want nothing more than a St Kilda flag, and if the Giants played St Kilda in a Gf I would be barracking for the Saints, but I believe, and so would most informed lovers of the game, that when the GWS wall breaks it will be ugly, for the rest of the competition.

Man I hope he does, I watched the stream of the Saints B&F night a couple of years ago, and he did a speech to the crowd, at the end of it I was completely filled with man-love for Joey..

May be ugly. Some guns will break ranks to look for better length contracts & more money, it's just the way it goes. Although I have no doubts that GWS will be a powerhouse, it is this that will bring them back to pack slightly

He said play at Etihad OR the MCG every 2nd week, not just the MCG.

Ok, but you asked...

Reasons to play for the Saints

1.Money - St Kilda doesn't have any
2. learn the ropes under the tutelage of Nick Riewoldt - Nick has "maybe" one year left, no way he does 2016 unless on a zimmer frame, not a lot of tutes
3. Live in footy central (Melbourne) - Many players including our own beoved Plugger found that a negative
4. The coffee is better than ANYWHERE in metro Sydney (trust me, I know, I've lived here for 6 years so far) - Try Leichhardt, they own coffee
5. Young developing list - You mean, like GWS ? :P
6. The club has shown 12 years ago that they can rise to the pinnacle from the bottom, why couldn't we do it again? - Nope, missed the pinnacle, twice, and on on of those occasions we were not only the better team, we had been the best team in a decade, 2009, 19 in a row... One more reason to hate the Bombers. - It is an undeniable fact, we haven't won shit..
