I don't have trouble seeing us coming bottom next year. None of our wins this year were convincing and we will lose a couple key players to retirement/trade at the end of the year. We will sacrifice short term performance to improve our long term.

GWS, Dees, Lions and Dogs should improve and the only other team I can see really struggling is MAYBE Carlton if they decided to go full rebuild but that might not even happen if they decide to just top up on the fly.

:thumbsu: Agreed it will be one more year of pain in the bottom three I think as our 1st to 3rd year players get another pre season and more games under the belt. However I think after that we will start to slowly make our way up the ladder and be more competitive. It's great news that Roo wants to play on for another 2 or maybe even 3 years (knee permitting). [He said so on Talking Footy on 7mate last night]

Next year's crop, especially at the pointy end of the draft sounds fantastic - potentially better than this year? I'll leave that to posters like Rahul to inform me and the rest of us on here....

Poor old Brian, I've posted this all over the Saints board and all I get is shit from all and sundry. Why is this? Please point out to me even ONE of my posts involving past players/coaches/admin that was not seen to be correct?

GWS will be the team we deal with IF we deal. Power forward and pick 4 for our pick 1.
What have Melbourne got to give us, Jack Watts? (Has been suggested he is in the table from sources).

Agree on that. If we got Weller and Templeton as rookies, ( and Saad on the table next year ) I'd only get Watts if the AFL started a new "ex-demons scholarship program" outside the main and rookie lists.

I hate tanking, look at Melbourne, its Karma.
We've had some good wins this year, and take away the injuries, I have trouble seeing us coming last.
So are we wishing more injuries upon our guys?

We will get injuries again next year, our best forward will be another year older, our best midfielder will have retired, we may have traded our third best mid and we will again persist with kids to speed up their development. There's every chance we will be worse next year, but that's ok, another year of development for our kids and more high picks is more important for our future chances than anything.

Great, so we are going to have another year like this one, just so we can get Darcy Parish... :( :( :(
Nope we will have J. Cameron playing along side Roo and McKenzie as our 3rd tall. Top 4 next year

Why the hell are GWS and Melb approaching us for pick 1 when all three teams are on the bottom of the ladder separated only by percentage?

We are basically locked for pick 1 which many should see.

Sydney (our percentage will go down more here....), Richmond (beat us by 40 odd a few weeks ago) and Adelaide (beat us by 80 odd when we had a heap of players fit) are our last three games so i doubt we're winning any of them.

I get that we are favoured for the spoon but its still close at the bottom. GWS may lose by a combined 350 points v us 50 points.

We proved last year we can move fast on a trade when we want. If they want Petracca as bad as that, might as well let their interest be known early

Not tanking, from memory Melbourne should have beaten us and We had the comeback of all time to beat GWS.

Throw in no Lenny, an older Roo and co and it's only natural we will be bad again.

As Rahul has said, bottom three gets a great pick.

I hate losing, but let's get through the pain and do it properly so we have another great 10 year era.

Yeah glass half empty.
The melbourne game was terrific. Why do you think they should have won? I thought we were the better team on the day.

Yeah we will lose a good player in Lenny but :
Fisher and Gilbert may play on, and may be past their injuries.
Jack Newnes will be a fifty game player.
Some of the guys who were injured all season may make a positive contribution.
We may see improvement from the likes of Ross, Saunders, Weller, Templeton, Billings, Wright

I don't expect one player to replace Lenny, but if the youngsters are improving rapidly, the overall improvement can still come close to filling the void.

I remember the Williamsgate... :p

Not half empty mate, Melbourne were all over us but couldn't kick straight! Check the stats from that game, and you thought we were terrific against Melbourne who can't beat an egg?

Let's be realistic, Lions way ahead of us after their great draft last year, GWS loaded with talent, Melbourne unveil their great white hope next year.

Our best players are still our eldest, so just need to go through the process.

We might not win a game next year. But, one reason I am excited is - Templeton. Go back and see his game against Essendon, he provided excellent forward pressure and will be one to watch (assuming no 2nd year blues).

Yes and No. It was exciting when he played and I look forward to seeing more of him. If he is playing early next year, means our injuries haven't gotten better :(

Disagree, Eli is best 22 over Murdoch, Schneider or Curren.

I know

But if he is still on the Rookie list we wont be able to elevate him unless we have a long term injury.

But this.

If Schneider plays on, he'll probably be injured at the start anyway?

Assumption was we'd be elevating Eli, we don't want a best 22 player to be on the rookie list! I'd look to cut Shenton, after a nice reminder of the impact of Gilbert, Fisher and Dempster as a trio.

Mate it just seems too good to be true, but we all hope it eventuates!

I was assuming that we'd elevate him as but his broken arm might have put a dampener on that.

It will be interesting to see what we do with our rookies. We have two that are best 22 and two that need to be upgraded or be shown the door but have both shown promise. If we want all of them we'd probably have to turn over more of our list than we want to.

Elliot Le Grice as a development KPD on the Rookie List; anyone with me?

195cm KPP who models his game on Sam Fisher, has genuine 'swingman' cred but sees himself as a CHB. Runs a 14.6 beep test.

Check out Shaun's interview with him on truezebras.

We would need steak knives unless the power forward was McCarthy which would be ludicrous
