Brayshaw looking more and more like the #1 IMO. Could be the Cotchin to this years Kreuzer (Wright), Morton (Durdin), Grant (Lever) and Henderson (Goddard)

If we don't nab him then Melbourne will for sure. Especially if Frawley walks and they have 2 top picks.

Grab a KPF from the second round onwards and look to the top end of next year's draft.

Then I go to watch highlights videos and I start thinking about Petracca as a #1 overall....

That means that in the last 6 months I've gone - Brayshaw, Wright, Durdin, McCartin, Brayshaw, McCartin, Trade of picks, Brayshaw, Petracca - as to what we should do with pick #1.

Not envious of Trout's job this year at all. Going to be so hard to nail this pick.

what KPFs do you think will be available in the 2nd round?

sunday morning i was dead set on wright. then i watched his highlights again and remembered why i so against him after watching him in perth

i agree, so hard to pick this year!!!
 
Defacto - Kietel is the one but I don't think Freo will make the same 'mistake' they did with Acres and let him slide.

Lamb is every chance of falling and would be very hard to pass, dickhead factor included.

Its speculative from there - Bevan or Watchman both projects or a senior body for a couple of years before we go shopping in FA.

I just don't think we should use pick 1 on these talls. None of them really stand out as being THE guy to me so if there is a team who is dead set on Wright or McCartin then a downgrade could be the go.

If we keep pick one I feel like we are best getting more of a 'sure thing' in Brayshaw or Petracca and using later picks to get talks for development over the next 3-5 years.

Much less pressure to give the big boys games that way.
 
To put it in context - The media are saying that Tom Lee for pick 12 is a failure but haven't said boo about 25 in Spencer White not even getting a game.

If we pick Wright or McCartin at #1 the media will hound us to play him every week ala Jack Watts. He will be hyped as a 'saviour' and then torn to shreds when he doesn't kick 5 on debut.

The #1 pick is pretty much on a hiding to nothing since Roo, Hodge & Goddard turned into absolute freaks.... The rest have not lived up to the same expectation at this stage IMO

Deledio - overrated
Murphy - very good, but not great
Gibbs - see Murphy
Kreuzer - average
Watts - average
Scully - average
Swallow - will be elite
Patton - hopefully another #1 pick that will find his way to StKilda... Has the tools to be a great power forward
Whitfield - looks like he'll be a ripper
Boyd - could be anything

So in recent times, it looks like clubs got it right except for maybe Carlton & Melbourne, but that could be more due to shit development...

Whoever we get should be an absolute gun. I'd be happy with Brayshaw, Wright or McCartin at this stage

So do we give up pick one because we are scared of stuffing it up? We could make the same stuff up with pick 4 or 5. If we give up pick one because of the muppets in the media are going to say. I would be more worried if we gave up pick 1 and Wright turns out to be the best forward in the league for the next 10 years. I would back the recuiting team to get it right, hopefully they're not worried about what the media are going to say. After what they did in last years draft, I would back them to get it right this year.

I don't think that's the point he was making. If we take a KPF with our first pick, they are going to be labelled "the next Riewoldt"/"Riewoldt's replacement" within a minute of being drafted, and they most likely won't be (it's a pretty hard act to follow).
IMO, if we get an offer to get 2 picks in the top 10 for pick 1 and something else (like if Melbourne lose Frawley and get Band 1 compo for him, and they stay around their current position), we could do more with that than with pick 1

So lets never draft another KPF then, so get 2 picks in the top 10 and pick 1 turns out to be better then Reiwoldt. Risk & Reward we are never going to get anywhere if we are scared of making a mistake

I don't think Wright would disappoint I just don't think he's the best option for us with time and games into Longer and Hickey who both appear to be coming good. We would have to trade one of them, and McCartin with his diabetes just seems too risky for a top 2 pick. Maybe that's just me though. I'd much rather a trade to get one of GWS or Gold Coast's young talls. Pick 1 or 2 and 20/21 (whichever we get) for Patton and their 3rd rounder
